Chapter 3

Penulis: Night Night
A sudden force yanked me away, followed by the sharp crack of a slap. I pressed my hand to the split in my lip where Graham's slap had struck, my eyes locked on him as he tenderly cradled Cassidy, who had lost consciousness.

There was no guilt in his eyes for being caught cheating, no remorse for deceiving me. Instead, all I saw in him was anger—anger at me for hurting Cassidy.

His glare felt colder than any accusation, as though the sweet kiss he had given me the night before was nothing more than a cruel illusion.

"How dare you hurt Cassidy! Even I have never dared to hurt her!

"I must've spoiled you too much over the years. It seems you've forgotten your place!"

I could hardly believe my ears. I stared at him, a sense of helplessness sinking deep into my chest as my voice trembled. "I've forgotten my place? Graham, I'm your wife! And you took my son away and gave him to her! What do you think of me, huh?" I asked, desperate for an answer.

Seeing that the truth had come to light, Graham's frustration bubbled over. "Whitney, can you stop being so unreasonable? Even if I still love Cassidy, so what? I'm still sticking around as your husband. What more do you want?"

As Graham rushed off with Cassidy to the hospital, my heart turned cold, numb to everything around me.

That afternoon, Cassidy's injury was all over the news. During her three years abroad, she had built quite a fan base. As soon as the news of her injury broke, her fans went wild online.

Some even dug up a photo of me, disheveled and walking out of Cassidy's apartment. As the fans finally found someone to blame, the insults and curses poured in from all sides.

The next day, Cassidy woke up and made a public statement on social media, trying to calm her fans. But the more she played the helpless victim, the more Graham and her fans turned their anger toward me.

In just half a day, I had prepared a divorce agreement. I had barely signed it when Graham's bodyguards forced me to the hospital.

Inside the room, Graham was feeding Cassidy soup with the same tenderness he had once shown me.

Two nurses, freshly exiting the room, couldn't contain their excitement as they gossiped. "I heard that man is Mr. Pearson. Cassidy is so lucky! She's a huge star, and even her husband treats her like a queen!"

"To have the CEO cook for you—now that's what I call true love."

During the years I spent in a secret marriage with Graham, he had always used the excuse of protecting me to avoid public appearances. But with Cassidy, there were no such restrictions. He was openly pampering her, showing her off to the world.

After Cassidy returned to the country, Graham pulled countless strings, pushing resources and connections in her direction.

The day I had my miscarriage, Graham had been by Cassidy's side, celebrating her birthday with her. He used drones to profess his love for her, making many unaware bystanders believe in his romantic intentions.

And the gift he gave her was the son I had carried for nine months.

It turned out that only I had been kept in the dark all along.

"What are you standing there for? Come in!"

When Graham noticed me at the door, his once soft expression hardened into impatience.

"Apologize to Cassidy, and leave them alone after that. Then we can put this whole thing behind us," he spat, his words dripping with coldness.

I stood frozen, disbelief written across my face. "What did you say? Graham, that baby's mine. Mine!

"Do you know what she's done? She's been giving him sleeping pills to stop him from crying!"

"I have not!" Cassidy looked at Graham with teary eyes, her voice trembling. "Graham, you have to believe me…

"I know Whitney has issues with me, but if I had known you were married, I never would have come back to disturb your life, even if it killed me inside…"

Seeing Cassidy's tears, Graham instinctively pulled her closer. "I know you're innocent."

Meanwhile, I stood there, silently watching the disgusting pair.

Cassidy's sobs only seemed to fuel Graham's anger. "Whitney, apologize to Cassidy now! If you don't, I'll divorce you!"

"Sure." I pulled the divorce agreement from my bag. "Let's get a divorce. I don't want your money. I just want my son."

Graham was taken aback for a moment, then he let out a bitter laugh. "Playing hard to get, huh? That trick is so outdated.

"You have nothing—no family, no connections. If you leave me, you'll be nothing. What makes you think you can take the baby?"

The fact that I had never mentioned my parents, that they didn't even attend our wedding, had made Graham believe I was an orphan.

But when we married, he had promised me he would be my family, the one who loved me most. And now, that very promise was being used as a weapon against me.

I squeezed my palm, the divorce agreement trembling in my hand, before I threw it at him. "I want my son. I never want to see you again."

Without waiting for his reaction, I turned and walked out, my steps resolute. Graham tried to stop me, but when he saw Cassidy's sobbing form, he froze.

As I made my way to the parking garage, ready to leave, I suddenly felt a heavy presence behind me.

A large, overweight figure lunged at me from around the corner, and before I could react, a handkerchief soaked in some kind of drug was pressed forcefully over my mouth and nose.

As my consciousness faded, I caught a glimpse of a gleaming knife in his hand.

"H-help..."

The police moved in and quickly subdued the struggling Graham. "What are you doing?!" Graham was caught completely off guard by the sudden turn of events. "Do you have any idea who I am?! How dare you touch me!" His cocky attitude, as usual, was completely misplaced in this situation. The officer holding him pulled out an arrest warrant. "Graham Pearson, you're under arrest for tax evasion." Though it was no secret that most companies had shady tax dealings, Graham's company, Pearson Media, was too big to let such things slip. In fact, Graham had always prided himself on his ability to cover it all up. In the moment Graham looked dazed, I spoke up once again. "You're all out of chances, Graham." Seeing the smirk on my face, Graham shouted in disbelief, "It was you! You reported me, didn't you?!" For all the years Graham had spent pining over another woman, he had never seen me as a threat. Maybe he had never taken me seriously, and because of that, he had let hi

As soon as I noticed someone had recognized me, I didn't shy away. I let out a light, almost amused laugh and nodded. "Yes, I'm Graham's wife, but not for long."The instant those words left my mouth, the reporters in the hall moved like clockwork, microphones raised high. One of them asked sharply, "Ms. Barlow, we heard you were kidnapped recently. Is your separation from Mr. Pearson related to Ms. Hum?"I didn't flinch at the question, answering with a steady tone, "Yes and no. At first, maybe Cassidy didn't know about my marriage to Graham. But after I confronted her, she didn't feel any shame and even threatened me with my own son!"As I spoke, I projected onto the big screen the medical report Graham had bribed the hospital to fake. "Graham personally handed my son over to Cassidy. He did it just to please her!"The bombshell I dropped sent ripples through the crowd. The look in everyone's eyes as they turned to Graham quickly turned to disdain.Graham must've known that if t

After hearing that Graham had left the baby at the hospital under special care, I managed to take him away, thanks to Titus's connections. With a subtle nod from me, everyone at the hospital kept Graham in the dark about it. Once that was taken care of, my parents threw a grand dinner party in a belated celebration of my son's birth, inviting all sorts of prominent figures and socialites. Graham was, of course, among the guests. And because of my careful planning, Cassidy—who otherwise wouldn't have made the cut—also received an invitation. It was easy to latch onto the powerful in events like this. Despite all the recent drama surrounding her, Cassidy still showed up to the event in a glamorous outfit, hoping to make connections. But what she didn't expect was to run into me in the event hall. The moment she saw me, her eyes flashed with barely contained fury. Through gritted teeth, she spat, "Whitney? What are you doing here? Are you working as a waitress? I guess you rea

As rumors continued to swirl, Graham's calls came in one after another, relentless and persistent. Each time, the phone call ended with an automatic hang-up. He couldn't help but think about the gossip online, and it seemed like Graham finally reached his breaking point. [Whitney, pick up the phone!] he demanded. [Where are you right now? That thing with the fan was just a misunderstanding! Cassidy wants to apologize to you in person. Don't be so ungrateful![I know I said some harsh things before. When I gave the child to Cassidy, I thought you and I would be together for the rest of our lives. Stop causing trouble and just come back! [I've already brought our son home. If you come back, the three of us can live happily together, okay?]My greatest concern had always been for my son. But now that Graham was personally taking care of him, I knew Cassidy wouldn't dare to continue drugging the child under his nose. While Graham continued his attempts to contact me, he a

When I finally woke up again, the first thing I saw was a man, his brow furrowed in frustration. As soon as I met his gaze, I immediately closed my eyes, pretending I hadn't seen him.Irritated, he muttered, "You were willing to sever ties with Mom and Dad just to get out of the arranged marriage. Now you're scared?"My brother, Titus Barlow, slapped my head in frustration, clearly upset. I thought back to five years ago when I foolishly rebelled against my parents, even cutting off ties with them. Now, here I was, battered and bruised, left with nothing but regret. Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the weight of it all.Seeing me cry, Titus, who had been visibly angry moments ago, suddenly panicked. "Wait, you're really crying? When I got your text yesterday, I rushed back. Who hurt you? Tell me, I'll make them pay!"Mom and Dad are downstairs. It's been five years. They've really missed you."As I cried uncontrollably, the door to the room opened. There, standing
