Vienna’s POV

That night, after the long, dazzling day at the zoo, Oliver was more than ready for bed. His arms were wrapped protectively around his new panda plush.

I guided him into his little bed, smoothing the sheets over him. The soft glow of his nightlight painted golden shapes on the wall.

For a moment everything was quiet and safe. I brushed his hair back from his forehead and kissed him.

"Did you have a good day, sweetheart?" I whispered.

He nodded against the pillow, his eyes heavy with sleep but still sparkling. "The best day. The giraffe was so tall. And the panda ate my stick."

He giggled, then hugged the plush tighter. "Big man is funny."

I smiled, though something inside me twisted. Of course Warren would be the highlight. I tried to tuck the thought away. "I’m glad you had fun."

Oliver was quiet for a beat. Then, in that small, serious voice he sometimes used when something weighed on him, he asked, "Mama… do I have a daddy?"

My heart stopped. I froze with my hand still

Vienna’s POVI crossed my arms. "What happened to not trying to buy your way back into my life, Warren? You hang a fancy chandelier in my bakery, and not even five minutes later you’re asking me out to dinner?"His smile was boyish, and I hated how it tugged at something soft inside me. "Guilty," he admitted, lifting his hands in surrender. "It’s just… yesterday, with Oliver…" His voice trailed off for a moment. "I had such a lovely time. It just felt… right. Like how things should’ve been all along."I let out a long sigh. "You say that now, but Warren… Things between us weren’t exactly fairy-tale material. You can’t just sweep in with flowers and chandeliers, and expect me to forget all of it.""I don’t expect you to forget," he said quietly, stepping closer. "I only hope you’ll give me the chance to prove I’m not that man anymore. Let me show you what life could look like if we… tried again."I hesitated, arms tightening around myself as Oliver’s sleepy voice from last night replay

  • Regretful Heart: CEO's Tears Over Her Pregnancy   Chapter 229 - The Day Out

Vienna’s POVThe dust from the bakery still clung to my clothes when we arrived at the zoo. Not just any zoo—of course not, with Warren. This was the exclusive Kingsford Wildlife Reserve, the kind of place most people only read about in glossy magazines. The wrought-iron gates were gilded, the entrance guarded by stone lions. A uniformed doorman greeted us by name as though we were royalty."Warren Hale, welcome back," the man said with a deferential bow. His eyes flicked to me, then to Oliver, and his smile softened. "And you must be the guests of honor."I shot Warren a look as he handed off his keys to a valet. "Really? Guests of honor? You’ve been here before?"He grinned. "My father has a membership. I grew up feeding giraffes here instead of pigeons in the park."I shook my head, half amused, half irritated. "Of course you did."But Oliver’s eyes were wide with wonder. He tugged on Warren’s sleeve. "Are there lions here, big man?""Lions, tigers, giraffes, even a panda," Warren

Vienna’s POVThe next morning, when I arrived at the bakery, I stopped dead in my tracks. A massive black truck stood parked in front. Half a dozen men were already unloading crates, tools, and slabs of material. My stomach tightened. Oh God.Warren stood among them like a foreman, arms crossed, his cast barely slowing him down as he barked orders. When he saw me, his expression softened instantly. "Vienna," he greeted, walking toward me with that infuriatingly calm smile. "Told you I’d get things done before your opening.""Warren," I said slowly, eyes darting to the chaos behind him, "what exactly is going on here?""Relax," he said smoothly. "This is how progress looks."I unlocked the door reluctantly, and before I could even step inside, the men surged forward, hauling in equipment. The moment they crossed the threshold, drills and crowbars came out. Within minutes, the bakery I’d poured my soul into became a demolition site.I gasped as two workers ripped up the flooring near t

Vienna’s POVMy mother’s words hit me like a punch to the gut. For a moment, I couldn’t even breathe, let alone speak."I can’t let you walk into the same fire I did, Vienna," she said, her voice gentle but carrying that quiet steel that only came from lived pain.I stared at her, shaking my head slowly. "I… I had no idea, Mother. Why didn’t you ever tell me?"Her shoulders sagged as if a heavy memory pressed down on her. "Because I wanted to protect you. But now… you need to know."She folded her hands together tightly on the table. "There was a huge court case, years ago. I tried to prove that the company that built my bakery had used that material illegally, without proper safety disclosures. But they—" Her lips curled with bitterness "—they had the money, the lawyers, the connections. They buried me in paperwork, dragged me through hearings. In the end, they covered the whole thing up."My stomach turned. "So all this time… that’s what caused—" I couldn’t even finish the sentence.

Vienna’s POV"Vienna, please, don’t do this." Warren’s voice cracked with urgency, his hand braced against the doorframe. "You know I only want what’s best for you."I crossed my arms, my patience gone. "I told you to leave." My tone was calm, but final. He ran a frustrated hand through his hair, pacing a step before turning back to me. "You can kick me out and stick your head in the sand, but that doesn’t mean your health won’t be affected. Or Oliver’s!"My jaw tightened. "I’ll decide for myself what risks I’m willing to take, thank you very much." I moved toward him deliberately, each step shrinking the space between us until I was at the door, ushering him out with a steady gesture."Vienna, listen to me," he pleaded, his eyes flashing with something between fear and anger. "You don’t understand the damage this could cause. I’ve read the research—""Enough!" My voice rang out sharper than I intended, but I didn’t waver. "This is my bakery. My project. My life. And I will not let yo
