Vienna’s POV

I froze, my breath catching in my throat. The man in front of me looked both entirely different and heartbreakingly familiar.

His dark curls had grown longer, tied into a messy man bun. A neatly trimmed beard framed his sun-browned face.

He looked rougher now, like a seasoned traveler. But his amber eyes… those were unchanged. They still glowed with that mischievous warmth that had once undone me.

"W—what are you doing here?" I blurted, my voice far too shaky for my liking.

"Well…" His lips curved into that lopsided smirk I knew too well, "I was told the Kingsford Spring Festival is worth a visit. And—"

He tilted his head, eyes narrowing with teasing nostalgia—"you told me yourself once that traveling would do me good."

The memory of our last encounter in Paris hit me like a wave. Me, pushing him toward freedom. Him, looking at me like I was the anchor he didn’t want to cut loose.

"That," I managed, swallowing, "was advice for you to get over me. I didn’t exactly sugges

Vienna’s POVJason’s gaze wavered, unfocused at first, then sharpened as it landed on the people closest to him."Dad…?" Jason’s voice was hoarse, a ghost of sound scraping out of a throat unused for years.Harold choked on a sob and leaned in. "Yes, son. Yes, it’s me. I’m here."Jason’s eyes drifted to Fred next, narrowing slightly as if digging through old memories. "Fred…? You look— older."Fred let out a wet, shaky laugh. "You missed a few birthdays, man." He grabbed Jason’s hand with trembling fingers. "Don’t you ever do that again."Then Jason turned his head sluggishly toward Eleanor. "Mom?"Eleanor pressed both hands to her mouth, shoulders shaking. "Yes, sweetheart. I’m right here."The reunion was so intimate, so beautiful. But when Jason’s gaze shifted to me, Ashley and Celeste, confusion washed over his features."I… I don’t know… you," he murmured, wincing slightly as if the unfamiliar faces were too much.I exchanged a quiet glance with Ashley, then touched Celeste’s elbo

Vienna’s POVFred straightened instantly. "What?""He just moved!" My voice cracked with shock. "His fingers—he squeezed!"Ashley gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "Oh my god, I saw that! I saw that!"Fred rushed to the foot of the bed. "Jason, buddy. Are you with us? Can you try again?"I leaned closer, my pulse roaring in my ears. "Jason, it’s Vienna. If you can hear me, can you move your fingers again?"His fingers twitched, this time unmistakably.Ashley let out a strangled laugh, half crying. "Oh my god. Oh my god, he’s coming back."Fred fumbled for the call button. "We need a nurse. Now."I kept my hand on Jason’s, barely breathing."He heard me," I whispered. "He actually heard me."A nurse rushed in, the door bumping softly against the wall from the force of her entry. She looked mildly annoyed, as if expecting yet another false alarm."What seems to be the issue?" she asked, already sounding bored."He squeezed my hand," I said quickly. "Twice."The nurse gave the same dr

Vienna’s POV"Lauren!" I exclaimed, flustered. I scrambled backward and almost lost my balance in the grass. Edward sat up quickly, brushing leaves off his clothes and glaring at her."What are you doing here?" I murmured awkwardly.Lauren tilted her head, still smirking. "What, is this place private property now? I live nearby. I come here every morning for a jog.Didn’t expect to stumble across… whatever this is." She gestured vaguely at the two of us.I could feel my cheeks flaming hotter than the summer sun. "It’s… self-defense training. That’s all. We’re… uh… practicing moves," I stammered.Edward stood, towering over her, his arms crossed over his chest. "She’s learning how to protect herself. That’s it. Your commentary isn’t necessary." His tone was sharp, but measured—controlled.Lauren’s smirk faltered slightly under his gaze, though she recovered quickly. "Right. Self-defense. Sure. Looks more like… couple’s playtime to me." She let out a light, teasing laugh, clearly enjoyi

Vienna’s POVA group of people in yoga pants and athletic gear had gathered near the park trail, looking at us with curious, slightly amused expressions. Some of them were holding water bottles; others had mats rolled under their arms. All eyes were on us."Oh… no," I stammered, my cheeks heating instantly. "He’s just, uh… teaching me self-defense." My voice sounded a little breathless even to my own ears. One of the women smirked. "Right…" she said, tilting her head. "Didn’t look like you wanted to defend yourself there for a minute."I froze. My stomach twisted, and I could feel the heat creeping up my neck.Edward stepped forward smoothly, his presence instantly commanding attention. He didn’t raise his voice, but every word had that sharp, confident tone that shut down nonsense before it started."That’s enough," he said, his eyes scanning the group with a calm but firm gaze. "This is a private session. If anyone wants to mock or judge my student, I suggest you take your entertain

Edward’s POVI woke up on the couch with a stupid smile on my face.Vienna was asleep in my bed.Granted, not for the reason any man might dream of—but still. She was safe. Warm. Breathing steadily under my roof. And even though the circumstances had been awful and traumatic, even though I wished more than anything that she’d never had to relive that nightmare… I couldn’t deny it:I felt honored.Honored that she trusted me again.Honored that I got to be the one who held her when she fell apart.I scrubbed a hand over my tired face and got up, stretching. The sun was already sneaking through the blinds, brushing gold across the apartment. I made my way into the kitchen and started bustling around quietly, pulling out eggs, bread, berries, anything I thought she might like.A part of me replayed last night on loop—the fear in her eyes, the way she shook, the way she clung to my voice like it was a lifeline. And then… The way her shoulders loosened when she took that first sip of tea.

Vienna’s POVEdward stroked my hair with slow, deliberate gentleness, his touch grounding me in a world that still felt tilted off its axis."Shhh… you’re safe," he whispered, again and again. His low voice was warm and steady—like an anchor I didn’t know I needed until that moment.Across from us, Ashley was wrapped tightly in Fred’s arms. Her makeup was smudged, her chest rising and falling too fast, but she was safe. Fred rubbed her back, murmuring something into her hair.He lifted his gaze to Bella, who was standing nearby, arms wrapped around herself. "Security handled it?" he asked over Ashley’s shoulder.Bella nodded weakly. "Yeah. They dragged him out the back. Police should be on their way. He’s gone."Fred exhaled a long, shaky breath. "Okay. That’s it. We’re staying together for the rest of the night. No more splitting up, no wandering off. We stick as a group."The bachelor party and bachelorette group merged in a messy, chaotic tangle—men hugging women, women crying into
