Chapter 4

Author: Ink the Seventh
"Welcome home, madam," the butler Alfred Rogers greeted Sierra as always.

John and Pamela both looked over. Pamela hesitated, then greeted her, "Sierra."

Sierra didn't even glance at her as she headed straight upstairs. She was afraid that if she looked, she wouldn't be able to stop herself from lashing out.

"Pamela just said hello. Didn't you hear her?" John's voice was cold and distant. "Or have you always been this rude, Ms. Bell?"

Sierra stopped in her tracks.

Ms. Bell?

She turned to look at them, and the words came out sharp. "You're already cheating in our home, and you still expect me to be polite?"

"This is my house. I'll do as I please," John replied calmly. "If you don't like it, move out."

Sierra clenched her hands at her sides.

Even though she knew his heart was no longer with her, hearing such cruel words still felt like a knife stabbing her in the chest.

He was the one who had told her this was her home. What belonged to him also belonged to her.

"John, Sierra is still your wife. Isn't that a bit much?" Pamela tried to mediate.

"I gave her a chance. She's the one who refused it," John replied, looking straight at Sierra.

She looked right back at him.

Neither was willing to back down.

"Sierra, why don't you apologize? If you do, John will surely forgive you," Pamela said softly, fanning the flames without making it look overt.

"It's fine. I'm going to move out without your say-so anyway," Sierra replied, her stubbornness on full display. She ignored Pamela completely. "I can't stand to stay one more second in a place that reeks of scumbags and homewreckers. It's going to make me puke."

She turned and headed upstairs, as if afraid something disgusting might catch up with her.

Bang!

She slammed the door.

Inside Sierra's room, she grabbed her suitcase and started packing right away. She knew this was just John trying to provoke her, but she couldn't stand it any longer.

After packing all her important documents, she went to the walk-in closet.

Staring at all the clothes, handbags, and jewelry, she paused for a moment. Then, she headed straight for the jewelry.

She needed money, and selling those things was the quickest way to get some.

But before she could gather everything, John and Pamela walked in.

"Sierra, how can you treat such expensive jewelry so indifferently?" Pamela's eyes were full of envy as she looked at the countless limited-edition and custom pieces. "Are you planning to sell them?"

Sierra didn't bother hiding her attitude. "None of your business."

Pamela glanced at John before continuing, "But these are all gifts from John. How can you just sell them?"

"Stay out of this," Sierra snapped. She wasn't gentle at all when she was angry.

Finally, John spoke up. "I didn't think you were the type to steal jewelry."

Sierra's hand froze mid-air.

Steal?

"If I called the police, how many years will the sentencing be?" John stared at her.

"First of all, we're not even officially divorced yet. Second, you gave these to me, so how is it stealing?" Sierra shot back.

John took a step closer, his gentle tone hiding sharp words. "How can you prove these were gifts and not just part of my collection?"

Sierra was stunned.

And at that moment, she understood. He would never let her take anything from here. He was determined to cut off all her options.

"If you want to take them, I won't stop you. But once the divorce is finalized, I'll call the police and report a theft," John said coldly, leaving no room for compromise.

"Sir," Robin said to John as he set the medical kit on the back seat, still worried.John removed his dark casual jacket, revealing his toned upper body. His wound was already bleeding through the gauze."Changing the dressing might hurt a little." Robin opened the kit. He had already disinfected the inside of the car. "Just bear with it."Before they came, Robin was worried something might happen, so he had gone to the doctor and learned how to change the dressing. Good thing he had, though. Otherwise, the injury would have gotten worse by the time they got back."It's fine. Do what you need to do." John's voice was hoarse. He had endured the pain for the entire afternoon so Sierra and Tommy would not notice anything was wrong. This pain was nothing to him.Robin started removing the gauze. He had barely begun when someone knocked on the car window. John looked over and saw Nathan standing outside. John raised his hand and was about to lower the window when Robin said in a w

Sierra listened closely to everything that was said. Anna took her back to the study and went straight to the point. "That twenty percent of the shares is yours. You don't need to care about whatever they say." "Alright." Sierra nodded. At first, she had wondered whether it was really the right thing to do to buy back shares that had gone up more than a hundredfold over the past twenty years at the original price. But then, she figured there had to be a reason for the clause having been clearly written into the share purchase agreement. They absolutely didn't do it because they felt guilty about it. If they had a conscience in the first place, they never would have forced her mother to sell those shares. Over the next half hour, Anna gave Sierra a rundown of what had happened with King Group earlier back in the days. However, she didn't go into details about how her family treated her or how Cyrus had crossed the line. Instead, she focused everything on what had happened to t

No one wanted their children to hate them. When Nathan learned that Sierra was the same child he had once had with Anna, he felt like he was finally alive after more than twenty years of numbness. He had even gone back to the Lynch family and made plans so he could bring her home."I don't need it," Sierra refused without a second of doubt. "If you really felt guilty about what you did to my mom back then, you wouldn't have waited over twenty years to apologize."At that, the look in Cyrus's eyes, which had been quietly watching from the side, changed. He realized what he had done was not so different from Nathan."Anna..." Nathan tried to ease things through Anna."My baby's opinion is the same as mine." Anna felt nothing for Nathan anymore. What had happened back then and the twenty years apart were enough to wash everything away. "Once you're done with the cake, please leave."Nathan's gaze darkened. After a long silence, he still forced out that one sentence. "She's my daugh

The mood at the table looked especially strange.Sierra's eyes shifted between the three men repeatedly. She had heard part of their conversation earlier. The line from Cyrus about "that child you mentioned has already been aborted" was especially thought-provoking, and her opinion of Nathan kept dropping.Nathan had no idea about it, though. At the table, the three men across generations sat across from each other as they plotted and schemed. One moment, Cyrus couldn't stand Nathan. The next, Cyrus and Nathan were both turned against John. They kept trading lines. On the surface, every word sounded normal, but almost every sentence carried a jab."This is a family dinner, not a business dinner," Sierra said when she saw them acting like they were at a negotiation table. She couldn't hold herself back anymore. "If you three wanted to see who the more skillful negotiator is, you three can set another time and talk all you want then."All three of them went quiet. No one added ano

Cyrus had no idea that Sierra was Nathan's daughter. He had always believed that the baby had already been aborted."Even if Sierra wants to go back to her roots, she's coming back to the King family," Cyrus said, face hard, attitude clear. "She has nothing to do with you.""She has my blood in her," Nathan said."That child you mentioned has already been aborted after you forced her to!" Cyrus shot back.Nathan fell silent.Cyrus had never liked him, and now he liked him even less. "As long as I'm still alive, I'll never let her be taken in by the Lynch family!""The Lynch family is the best home she could have. Everyone's looking forward to her coming home," Nathan said, his tone heavy. "Unlike the King family. Those people would rather see her and Anna die out here more than anything else.""I'll protect them," Cyrus said. "Your family is full of petty schemers. If she goes back, who knows what they will do to her?"The two of them kept arguing.John sat there without joini

The room became tense at once.Holly tugged Sierra's sleeve and shot her a look, signaling to her it was time to leave. A fight between three generations was not for them.Once John saw Sierra and Holly walk off with Tommy, he stopped bothering with the courtesy. "In some ways, none of us are good people. But I have never said a single bad word about either of you in front of Anna.""You only kept quiet because she doesn't like you," Nathan said.John stayed calm. "If she really didn't like me, she wouldn't have let me in today, and she definitely wouldn't let me have any freedom in here."Nathan went silent, and so did Cyrus."Were you invited in?" John asked, already knowing the answer.Nathan and Cyrus once again said nothing."I guess not," John said. The two older men narrowed their eyes as they looked at John. How could this brat be so annoying?!John didn't care about their thoughts. One was Sierra's father, and the other her grandfather, but the only people who cou
