Chapter 98

Author: Ink the Seventh
John fixed the blanket so Tommy's head was out and he could breathe.

Looking at the way the boy squeezed his eyes shut, clearly refusing to acknowledge him, John didn't try to wake him. As always, his voice stayed gentle and patient.

"Get some rest. Stop thinking about everything else. No matter what happens between your mom and me, we won't love you any less."

Tommy ignored John; he kept his eyes closed and pretended to be asleep.

John bent down and planted a goodnight kiss on his small forehead. "Goodnight."

Tommy stayed silent.

John turned off the light and pulled the door closed. The moment the room went dark, Tommy opened his eyes. The clear eyes that used to be bright and pure were now clouded with something complicated.

John left Tommy's room and went to check on Sierra.

Sierra was still lying in the same position as before. She was quiet, still, and fast asleep.

He sat down on the edge of the bed and watched her sleeping face, her breathing even and steady.

Everything between John and Pamela played in her mind. She couldn't shake them off, no matter how she tried."You should know I never truly meant to divorce you," John said at last, his dark eyes locked on Sierra. "Everything up to now was me going along with what you wanted.""I'm not in the mood for jokes." Sierra's expression remained serious."You think I'm joking?" John shot back.Panic suddenly surged inside Sierra's chest. If John really refused, what could she do? Sue for divorce? Without solid proof that he cheated, it would be nearly impossible. She was undoubtedly no match for him on everything else."You asked me to come here, so there's still room to talk," Sierra said. That was the only thing she could still bet her hopes on. "Tell me what you want. What will it take for you to agree to the divorce?""I'm not going to," John said flatly.Sierra's temper flared. "Don't push it!"His gaze never moved. "I know I'll never find another Sierra Bell other than you. And

John glanced at Lucy and told her he needed to take the call. He walked to the window and answered, his voice steady and pleasant as usual. "What is it?""You still haven't answered my question from yesterday." Sierra kept her tone calm. She didn't want to start a fight with him at a time like this."About the divorce?" John asked."Yes," Sierra said."I'm not free on Thursday." He was telling the truth. As the CEO of Henderson Group and owner of Origin Games, he had endless decisions waiting for him every day. With all his roles piled together, he could be busy every single day unless he chose to make time."When are you free, then?" Sierra knew how much work he had and didn't suspect he was doing it on purpose. "We can set a time so I can take leave from work.""Come to my office on Monday." John sounded completely serious. "I'll have Robin send you my schedule, and we can pick a time together."Sierra frowned. She really didn't want to be alone with John at Origin Games.

"That's his asset. There's no reason he should give it to me," Sierra said. She used John's own words when Lucy asked about the house.Lucy understood exactly what that meant. After she left Sierra's place, she went straight to see John. When he saw her there, he looked a little surprised. "Did you find anything?""No," Lucy said decisively.John waited.Lucy dropped onto the couch like she owned the place, her demeanor casual. "I was online last night and saw some stuff about your divorce from Sierra. It made me sick. I'm not in the mood to keep digging."John didn't say anything."I also heard you plan to have Sierra walk away with nothing," she went on. "But you're the one who cheated, right?""Cheated?" John finally spoke. That was the biggest misunderstanding Sierra and everyone else had about him."Aren't you with Pamela already? You even spent the night at Lakeside Villa." What Lucy knew came from the internet, plus a little from Sierra and Kenneth.John stayed calm

"We met five years ago at your wedding with John," Lucy said to Sierra as she stood in Sierra's doorway. The slight lift at the corners of her eyes made her look especially pretty. "You forgot."Sierra tried hard to remember.Nothing."Back then, I tried to hit on you. John even glared at me," Lucy said.Sierra paused.Their wedding? Flirting?Lucy pulled out her phone and brought up an old photo, then held it out to Sierra. "Look at this. Does this ring a bell?"Sierra stared at the screen. The photo showed a girl with shoulder-length choppy hair and a pair of headphones around her neck, smiling with bright energy and a streak of rascal-like attitude.Something clicked. Sierra looked up at her in disbelief. "You... You're Lucy?""Do I look even more handsome now?" Lucy brushed back her hair. A charming aura surrounded her naturally."You look great either way." Sierra stepped aside. "Come in."Sierra hadn't seen Lucy many times. Other than during the wedding, they had o

"Digging up information and dealing with people face to face are two different things," Lucy said to Kenneth bluntly. "You won't get it, so I won't hold it against you."She left both Kenneth and John, not caring about what the two were thinking. As soon as she walked out of the bar, waved down a cab and climbed in.She leaned back, her mind stuck on what she had just found out.The disturbing images that had flashed across the screen. The name. Both matched everything about her mentor. If Anna really was the person Lucy had known online for nearly a decade, then what had happened after she vanished that made her change her name? Had she buried the past because it hurt too much? Or because she didn't want anyone to find out? If Lucy broke through that last layer of protection...All kinds of thoughts appeared in her mind.In the end, she decided to talk to Sierra the next day. She would decide whether to crack the defenses and pull the data out after that.Lucy's sudden exit

"If you can breach through my company's defenses," John said to Lucy, perfectly calm in the face of her threat to move his company's funds. Lucy went quiet. She regretted building him such an impenetrable defense system. Now, even she would have a hard time cracking it."Anna's files are buried by a really skilled hacker," Lucy said, running through the facts again. She wasn't sure if Kenneth had mentioned it. "If I force my way through, it'll take about two hours."In the past, it might have been beyond her.But now? Easy as pie."Fine." John stayed put and waited.Time slowly passed them by.In the private room, the only sound was Lucy's fingers on the keyboard. Kenneth sat there, torn between staying and leaving. No one was drinking, and no one was talking either. It was so boring! But… He was the one who had asked them out."John." Kenneth thought it over and decided he wanted to chat. He couldn't just sit there and do nothing. "What are you going to do about Origin
