Chapter 2

作者: Stupid
I stared at my father, who had once cherished me more than anyone.

But he looked embarrassed and averted his gaze.

"I'll have the room cleared out for you right away. This will always be your home."

The moment he finished speaking, Quintessa's eyes reddened again.

She silently got to her feet and began moving her belongings out, but Ryan stopped her.

When no one was looking, he suddenly charged at me and shoved me to the ground. He grabbed whatever he could get his hands on and hurled it at me, screaming as he did.

"You came back and started bullying Mommy! You're a bad woman!

"Get out!

"Get out of my house!"

I stared at his twisted expression, completely stunned.

Everyone was startled by what he had done.

Yates grabbed his arm, frowning as he snapped, "Ryan! What do you think you're doing?"

Tears streamed down Ryan's face as he stubbornly continued hurling insults at me.

Annie, who had been fast asleep, was also awakened by the commotion and burst into tears.

Quintessa held her, tears streaming down her face as well.

"Stop it. Everyone, stop it. This is all my fault. I'll just leave!"

With that, she got to her feet and started to leave.

Just then, my mother spoke up.

"Everyone, shut up!

"Tessa, you don't have to go anywhere. You can keep this room."

My breath caught as I looked at her.

She frowned at me.

"Lily, I'll have someone clear out the entire third floor for you tomorrow. For tonight, just sleep in the guest room.

"Everyone, settle down."

Her words suddenly reminded me of something I had asked her when I was little.

"Mom, isn't this the master bedroom? Why don't you and Dad sleep here? Why are you leaving it for me?"

Back then, she held me in her arms, a sweet smile on her face.

"Because this room holds all the best wishes your dad and I have for you. Our Lily, we just want you to always be happy."

Remembering that, I could no longer hold back my tears.

I turned my head and wiped my face, then walked away.

She looked like she wanted to say something, but in the end, she stayed silent.

Once I returned to the guest room, I could no longer hold myself together. I buried my face in the pillow and sobbed.

Suddenly, I was enveloped in a warm embrace.

Yates gently kissed the top of my head. He stroked my hair and sighed.

"What are you going to do if your eyes are all swollen tomorrow, honey?"

I looked at him through tear-filled eyes.

He smiled at me.

I didn't know how long I'd been crying, but his clothes were already soaked through with my tears.

I felt a little embarrassed and rubbed my eyes.

"Go take a shower."

He hugged me tightly one more time before picking up his phone and heading into the bathroom.

I thought he'd be out soon.

He usually took a quick shower that lasted less than ten minutes.

But this time, I eventually fell asleep, yet the sound of the water still hadn't stopped.

I drifted into a hazy sleep.

When I woke again, it was to the sound of him closing the door.

I opened my eyes and saw the phone he'd left beside his pillow flash a few times.

Quintessa's name suddenly appeared on the screen.

"Waiting for you."

My heart skipped a beat.

I quickly picked up the phone to check, only to see “Incorrect password” when I tried to unlock it.

His phone password used to be my birthday.

But now...

I tried again and again. It wasn't my birthday, his, or either of the children's.

Suddenly, I remembered the birthday he had put next to Quintessa's name in his contacts.

I entered it, and the phone unlocked.

I felt the blood in my veins turn cold.

I opened their chat, and only then did I see that he had been on a video call with Quintessa for the entire hour he'd been in the bathroom.

Yates lowered his eyes, his voice cold."When I brought you home, I told you that you were nothing more than Lily's replacement. Who gave you the right to treat her like that?"With that, he kicked the chair aside and punched himself in frustration.Quintessa glanced around the room.Seeing that no one was willing to help her, she suddenly burst into laughter."A replacement?"Didn't you all end up getting Lillian killed because of this replacement?"Her chest heaved as she pointed at everyone in the room."What makes any of you so much better? Before you point the finger at me, maybe take a good look at yourselves! If you hadn't all silently allowed it, how could I have ever gotten her killed?"The room fell silent.Hailey said impatiently, "Enough! Don't disturb my grandson. If you want to argue, take it outside!"The moment she said that, my mother's anger flared."Shut up! The Foster family's grandson deserved to die. Who's going to pay for my daughter’s death?"The moment Hailey h

But there was no one left to answer my mother.Just then, as I floated in midair, I heard the System's voice."Truth Revealed has been successfully redeemed. Would you like to use it?"As a spirit, I could no longer shed tears. All I could do was respond in a hoarse voice. The next second, my father's phone chimed. He received a file bundle and opened it numbly. What appeared before his eyes was the scene of Quintessa falsely accusing me of pushing her at the doorway before staging her own fall.Hearing the commotion, everyone nearby gathered around.Yates's pupils constricted. He dragged the video back to the beginning and watched it again and again in disbelief.Hailey had been making snide remarks just moments earlier. But the moment she saw Quintessa instructing Annie to frame me and urging her to jump into the river, she could no longer sit still. She wasn't a good mother-in-law.But she was a good grandmother.Watching her beloved granddaughter nearly drown, her lips quivered. I lay on the ground and kept vomiting blood. The System had blocked out the pain, but I could still taste the heavy, metallic tang of blood in my mouth. It was nauseating. The man wanted to make sure I wouldn't survive, so he tried to run me over again. The System reminded me."Lillian, get up and run forward."I didn't understand why, but I still forced myself to my feet and dragged my leg forward as I ran.A blinding light suddenly engulfed me.The next moment, I was hit hard again and knocked to the ground.Seeing this, the man nearby quickly turned the car around and fled.Blood splashed into my eyes.Through my blurred, blood-red vision, I saw my father rush out of the car in a panic.I saw Yates rush over from the passenger seat, his legs giving way as he dropped to his knees in front of me.The memory of me in a vegetative state overlapped with who I was now.Yates tremblingly took my hand."How could you..."How could you be here?"Even my father, who was usually so composed, h

I stood there, stunned.I stared at Annie in disbelief. She cried so naturally that there wasn't the slightest hint she was lying.I instinctively denied it."I didn't. What are you talking about, Ann..."Quintessa pulled her into her arms, and I caught sight of the jade bangle that had once belonged to me on her wrist."Don’t worry, Ann. How could I not love you? Just don't ever do something so reckless again. What if something had happened to you?"Hailey was moved by how worried she was.It only made me look even more unreasonable by comparison. She walked over and slapped me hard across the face.My father stood in front of me and let out a cold snort."She was willing to stage a car accident and put her own life at risk. And you still expect her to care about her children?"In a fit of rage, he flung the transfer records at me."Lillian, is this how I raised you?"Did I raise you to be this jealous and petty?"The papers fluttered to the ground. I bent down and picked up one of th

When I woke up, my mother was holding my hand, tears blurring her eyes."Lily, you scared me half to death..."I thought you weren't going to wake up."She was crying, but I felt nothing.I pulled my hand from hers and looked at Yates, who was standing beside the bed."You want a divorce, don't you?"He couldn't bring himself to meet my eyes. Instead, he turned his head away and said, "I've already wronged you. I can't do the same to Tessa."Hearing that, I laughed out loud."System, I've decided how I'm going to leave this world."I'm going to die at their hands."Back then, I had fought tooth and nail to make it back, all just to see these people who had long since forgotten about me.I found the whole thing almost laughable. If I'd known this was how things would turn out, I should never have come back.I didn't respond to what Yates said about the divorce. He simply tucked my hand under the covers and tried to comfort me."I'm sorry, Lily. Once you've recovered, I'll take care of t

The System's response came almost immediately."Okay. I'll arrange an accident for you so you can return to the mission world."But it'll take some time."I nodded, wiped away my tears, and shakily got to my feet.Suddenly, everything went black.I clutched my head and passed out. When I woke up again, I was in the guest room.My mother's promise to have someone clear out the third floor had been put on hold because of Quintessa. Her baby had survived, but she was still extremely weak.My mother sat on the couch, clearly displeased with me."I need to clear out the third floor for Tessa's baby. Your dad and I bought you a house of your own, so pack your things and move there."Hearing that, I let out a bitter laugh."So, Mom, you're kicking me out?"Hearing that, my mother's face went pale.A flicker of compassion crossed her eyes. But she quickly thought of Quintessa, who was still recovering."You can move back after Tessa gives birth."She studied my face before adding, "Tessa is ca
