MY REJECTED MATE IS THE QUEEN

AUTHOR’S POV

The thought came so suddenly that his breath caught.

He had not allowed himself to ask that question before. There had always been another crisis to handle, another family to move, another patrol to send into the dark. He had pushed thoughts of her aside because remembering her made him feel the emptiness where their bond should have been.

But the bond had never truly disappeared.

Even after the rejection, he could still feel its faint, distant ache on the rare nights when he was alone and his wolf grew restless.

He had told himself it was nothing.

A remnant of an unwanted connection.

A wound that would eventually close.

Now, standing in the ruins of his territory, he wondered if the bond had been the only thing he had ever possessed that was not built on power.

A voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Alpha."

Rowan stood in the doorway.

Kaiden dragged his attention away from the entrance.

"What is it?"

"I may have found somewhere we can go."

Kaiden's expression sharpened. "Where?"

"A mountain settlement north of the old highway. It was abandoned before the outbreak, but someone has been restoring it. Travelers say displaced werewolves are being allowed inside."

"Who controls it?"

"That is the unusual part."

Rowan approached, carrying a folded sheet of paper.

"The reports came from two separate groups. Both claim the settlement has an organized infirmary, a guarded perimeter, and enough structure to keep its residents alive. One traveler said the woman in charge has been taking in children, injured wolves, and people who have nowhere else to go."

Kaiden frowned.

"An Alpha?"

"No one has confirmed that."

"Then who leads them?"

"Apparently, a healer."

Kaiden's patience thinned. "A healer is not going to defend a settlement against a pack of armed warriors, let alone an infected horde."

"Perhaps not. But the travelers said she has organized the residents into patrols, repaired the buildings, and established rules for distributing food and supplies. They also said she refused to turn away an injured stranger even after learning he had been attacked by raiders."

Kaiden glanced at the paper.

A settlement led by a healer. A place where the weak and displaced were allowed to stay.

It sounded less like a territory and more like a gathering of desperate people waiting for someone stronger to take control.

Yet it was the first promising report Rowan had brought him in weeks.

"Who is this woman?"

Rowan hesitated.

Kaiden noticed immediately.

"What aren't you telling me?"

"I wanted to confirm the name before bringing it to you."

"Rowan."

The older wolf unfolded the paper.

"The settlement is being called Haven."

"I asked who leads it."

Rowan met his eyes.

"Elena Voss."

For a moment, the ruined hall seemed to tilt beneath Kaiden's feet.

He stared at Rowan, certain he had misunderstood.

"What did you say?"

"Elena Voss. The healer who left Blackthorn three years ago."

Kaiden shook his head.

"No."

"I received the name from a traveler who claimed to have been treated at her infirmary. Another survivor confirmed it independently."

"No." Kaiden's voice grew harder. "There are thousands of wolves named Elena. It could be someone else."

"Both reports described the same woman. Dark hair, healing skills, a silver pendant around her neck. One of them said she had been living in a mountain settlement and had taken responsibility for several displaced families."

Kaiden felt the air leave his lungs.

Her pendant.

He remembered it from the night she left. A small silver pendant that had belonged to her mother, resting against her throat as she packed the few possessions she owned. He had seen it when he entered her room, and he remembered the way her fingers had closed around it when he told her she should reconsider leaving.

He had said the pack valued her work.

He had thought those words would be enough to make her stay.

Rowan's voice softened.

"Alpha, I believe she is alive."

Kaiden looked away.

Alive.

The word should have brought relief. Instead, it opened a door to every memory he had spent three years trying not to examine.

  • Rejected Before The Apocalypse, Now I'm The Queen   LEARNED TO LOVE HER

AUTHOR’S POVFor one brief moment, she considered turning in the opposite direction. Then she reminded herself that Haven was hers to manage, and she would not alter her movements simply because he happened to be nearby."Elena," he said. She stopped at a reasonable distance."What is it?""I wanted to tell you that the meeting went well."She glanced at him."That was the purpose of the meeting.""I know.""Then you don't need to tell me."His mouth tightened, but he did not argue.Instead, he looked toward the settlement."You've built something here."Elena followed his gaze.People were lighting lamps outside their shelters. Smoke rose from the cooking fires, and somewhere near the infirmary, children were arguing over a game. The settlement was still fragile. They had too little food, too few supplies, and no guarantee that the next day would be easier. But it was alive."We're building something," she corrected. "I didn't do it alone.""Still, they trust you.""Because I give th

  • Rejected Before The Apocalypse, Now I'm The Queen   EARN MY RESPECT

AUTHOR’S POV "Your decision is that everyone receives equal portions unless their needs or assigned duties require an adjustment?""Yes.""And the warriors going on the expedition receive enough food for the journey, without being given a permanent advantage over everyone else?""Correct."Kaiden turned toward Roderick."Then we will follow the ruling."Roderick stiffened."With respect, Alpha, I believe—""You have made your objection clear," Kaiden interrupted. "The settlement has reached its decision. We will not waste more time arguing over it."A flicker of surprise crossed Elena's face before she could hide it.Kaiden had accepted her ruling without trying to override it.She did not know whether to be relieved or suspicious.Perhaps he had finally realized that he could not command people here.Or perhaps he had simply decided this particular argument was not worth having.Either way, the decision stood.Elena returned to her notes."We'll prepare the expedition supplies tomor

  • Rejected Before The Apocalypse, Now I'm The Queen   THE RULES OF MY HAVEN

AUTHOR’S POV Elena had learned that the fastest way to lose control of a settlement was to let people believe the rules could be changed whenever someone powerful disliked them.Haven had survived its first months through cooperation, sacrifice, and a great deal of stubbornness. Food remained scarce. The water supply had only recently been restored, several buildings still needed repairs, and every day brought another problem that demanded attention. But Haven was standing. And Elena intended to keep it that way."Everyone should be here by now," Garrick said, placing a stack of papers on the wooden table.Elena glanced around the meeting hall. The room had once served as a dining area for the people who had lived in the abandoned settlement. Its windows were cracked, one corner of the roof leaked whenever it rained, and the long table in the middle had been repaired with mismatched pieces of wood.It was hardly a place fit for a council meeting. But they had more important things t

  • Rejected Before The Apocalypse, Now I'm The Queen   I FINALLY UNDERSTOOD

AUTHOR’S POV "Then what is the point of the bond?" he asked, his voice quieter than before.Maera's expression softened slightly."Perhaps to give two people the opportunity to choose each other. A bond may bring them together, but it cannot make the choice for them. Love without choice is only another kind of captivity."Kaiden looked down at his hands."Is there anything I can do?" he asked.Maera regarded him for a long moment."If you want answers about the connection, observe it carefully. Do not deliberately provoke it. Do not use it as an excuse to force closeness. And if either of you experiences severe pain or distress, seek help rather than pretending you can endure it.""And Elena?""Let her decide what she wants to do."Kaiden exhaled slowly. It sounded so simple. It felt almost impossible.Maera returned to her herbs, making it clear that the conversation was over."One more thing, Alpha."He paused at the door."Do not mistake regret for love. Regret often comes when we

  • Rejected Before The Apocalypse, Now I'm The Queen   I WON’T FORCE HER

AUTHOR’S POV Maera reached for a jar and moved it aside before continuing."There are old accounts of damaged bonds reacting under extreme circumstances. Most are little more than stories passed down between generations. A few describe connections that appeared dead but responded when the mates faced danger, shared intense emotions, or came into physical contact after a long separation.""So it is possible.""It is possible that something happened between you and Elena. That does not mean the bond has returned.""What else could it be?""I don't know."The bluntness of her answer irritated him."You are supposed to understand these things.""I understand enough to know when I do not have an answer." Maera folded her hands on the table. "The old accounts are incomplete. Some describe a bond stirring for a moment before disappearing again. Others speak of pain so intense that the wolves involved could barely remain near each other. There are even accounts of emotions passing between tw

  • Rejected Before The Apocalypse, Now I'm The Queen   A BOND THAT SHOULD BE DEAD

AUTHOR’S POV Kaiden had faced rogues with blood on their claws, enemies who wanted his head, and nights when the screams of the dying filled the darkness around him.Yet none of those things had unsettled him as much as the moment Elena's skin touched his.He could still feel it.That strange pulse had passed through him like lightning, stealing his breath and leaving something unfamiliar lodged beneath his ribs. For a brief, impossible moment, he had felt what Elena felt. Her fear. Her grief.
