By 10 am the next day, Lily had gotten into her car and driven to the courthouse.

The drive there, much to her dismay, was filled with the churning of her stomach, a feeling of unease, and the tiny bit of joy she could bring herself to derive from finally getting William out of her life.

Pulling into the parking lot of the court, she sat there for a few seconds, preparing and composing herself for the next few hours. Then, after drawing in a fresh breath of air, or at least, what she'd like to consider a fresh breath of air, she opened the door and climbed out, striding with all the confidence she could muster to the entrance.

Upon entering the building, she spotted Mr. Linford.

"Uncle Linford," She called out with a gentle wave and a warm smile as she approached.
