Chapter nine

Elora's POV

Blood kept oozing down my neck without stopping, and once again I felt so weak. If I was strong or maybe had a wolf, then I could have easily healed these wounds. It hurts. So much that I could tell as the pain throbbed inside my body.

“Are you alright?” The woman asked, but I had no response. My hand was wrapped around my neck trying to put pressure on the wound as hard as I could as it felt like my blood would get drained soon, and maybe my head would fall off.

“Come sit here while I help you clean out the wound. I see you can't heal.” She said again, and I couldn't tell if it was it of worry or pity. Well, at the moment it wasn't like I cared about what she thinks but rather how to get this blood spilling to stop.

Quickly I stood up and walked toward where she asked me to and gently sat down on the chair.

“Bring your hands down, let me take a look.” She offered, but I didn't bulge. I was so scared that my blood would puff out at once if I dropped my hand.

“I know you are scared, but you have to let me. An Alphas claws just grazed you and worst of it you don't have a wolf. That can lead to death!” She warned with a serious gaze while my heart shivered in fright. Quickly I dropped my hand and she gasped.

“Ooh, my goodness!” She exclaimed in shock looking like she had seen something scary, but then it was just my neck. I was able to suspect the graze must be more awful than I thought.

“It's bad, isn't it?” I asked shivering.

“You'll be fine.” She caressed my shoulder and instantly brought a wool that was soaked in mentholated spirit. When it came in contact with my skin, I felt a cool yet painful sensation that made me scream in pain.

“Ahhhh!” I screamed, digging my fingers into my things.

“It's going to be fine. Just wait, there is a little more line to clean before I wrap it up.” She assured me, but the pain that comes with it wasn't acceptable. “You have to stay still, or I will call Devlin to do it.” She said, and a spark appeared in my eyes.

Not just any kind but one of hatred. All the pain I was feeling was now forged into anger and I remained still without even flinching or wincing.

“Good.” She said after wrapping some bandages around my neck, then leaning back to look at my face.

I looked down at her and saw she was quite young and had an excellent figure. But then what captivated my interest the most was the fact that she was wearing a maid uniform, and yet, she dared to shout at Devlin earlier?

Now that my head had settled, I gave it a thought and was awestruck.

“I brought you some food to eat. Though it will hurt since you are injured, you have to try your best to eat something.” She said, walking towards the table and bringing a plate of food for me.

“Has he always been like this?” I asked as my hand reached for the plate. Even though I was feeling pain, my stomach had been growling for a while now, so I didn't intend to deprive it of food.

“Who?” She took a pause.” You mean Devlin?” A sigh escaped her lips and she sat at the edge of the bed.

“There is a lot you don't know about him, and trust me he isn't what you think he is.” She smiled.

“Isn't what I think he is? You saw him hurt me, didn't you?” I raised a brow at her, sounding angry.

“Yes, I saw that. He has quite a temper I won't lie, but you have to know that he has a good side. You are just not seeing it.” She explained, but I felt like she was only trying to side him.

After all, he was her Alpha and there was no way she could choose to disobey him, rather she must be trying to bring me to believe what she just said.

I have tasted betrayal before. My own best friend decided to betray me, so trusting someone easily was something I could never do unless they earned it.

Taking in the last chunk of meat, I made sure to munch it up as hard and fast as I could and could have choked, but she passed me a bottle of water.

I collected it and took a gulp, emptying the bottle before suddenly standing up on my feet and looking like I wanted to set out on a journey.

Knowing it wouldn't be easy for me to do what was on my mind, I searched around the room for clues as I paced around while the woman kept looking at me in worry.

“What's bothering you?” She asked.

I paused and took a deep breath, trying to decipher whether I could trust her or not. Maybe I could use her, but then how do I even start?

“Can you give me a tour around the pack?” I asked, brimming with excitement to make it convincing.

“A tour? You must have to ask Devlin for permission. When he says yes, then I can take you anywhere you want.” She smiled, seeming as though she had seen through my intent.

“Devlin?” I sneered in disgust. The thought of asking him for permission played out in my head, and it was so annoying that I had to keep myself from throwing up. “No! Never!” I snarled.

“Unless maybe you have other motives!” She raised a brow at me while I tried to avoid eye contact.

“What are you saying? I only wanted to-”

“I already know what you have in mind. Trust me if I were you, I would be having such intention, but what I want you to see is that Devlin isn't as bad as you think he is.” She cut me off.

“My name is Sarah, by the way. Now I'll go out and leave you both to yourself.” She replied and stood up. I didn't understand what she meant until I rethought what she said and figured she said she would leave both of us.

How could that be possible when aside from her, I was the only one in the room?

“Elora!”

Just then a voice called out to me from behind, and I nearly choked.
