Katherine's POV

"This is so beautiful, Kai," I said as I leaped into his arms.

He carried Trisha in one arm and still managed to hold me tightly with the other hand. I held him tightly and basked in the euphoria of how good he actually felt. The past few years alone with no one to take care of me as I had to do everything myself were finally being lifted off my shoulders.

It was great to finally be here, and I made up my mind never to let anyone come in between Kai and me.

"This feels so good, Mommy. I've always wondered what it felt like to hug both of you." Trisha whispered, and I felt my emotions give way.

Bawling like a child in front of Trisha had not been on my list of things to do today, but here I was, a sorry mess. Kai gently dropped Trisha and held me tightly with his two hands, enveloping me in one of the most reassuring hugs that I have ever had.

    Katherine’s POVThe sun hung low in the sky, casting a pale golden light over the training grounds. The last day of my training, and I still hadn’t seen Kai. It had been three days since I last heard from him, three long, agonizing days of silence. Each moment without a word from him gnawed at me, a dull ache that deepened with every passing hour. Where was he? Why hadn’t he come? Even Tricia has been asking of him nonstop, Roma had just been moved down to where we were and she has been the one taking care of Tricia on my behalf. I knew he had his reasons, and his responsibilities, but it didn’t make his absence any easier to bear. Every attempt to channel my inner light, my supposed gift as the Light Seeker, was met with resistance. The power inside me felt muddled, out of reach, like trying to catch water slipping through my fingers.
