King Kai's POV

I anticipated sneaking off the penthouse to see Trisha and Katherine right after my last meeting. They seemed to be the only thing that I looked forward to now. Katherine still didn't let me sleep over, but I was allowed to spend as much time as I wanted.

“There is not one trace of them. We have combed the entire area to see if we can get one, but shadow hunters are difficult to catch during the day, and they are too deadly at night. We need a new strategy, my king.” Azra said, and I nodded my head absent-mindedly, too lost in my thoughts about where I would be when I was done with him.

“So what do you want to do?” I asked him.

“I think the shadow hunters are working with the slave trade rig.” He announced, and that statement caught my attention.

“What do you mean by that?” I asked and sat up to listen to him properly.

    Katherine’s POVThe sun hung low in the sky, casting a pale golden light over the training grounds. The last day of my training, and I still hadn’t seen Kai. It had been three days since I last heard from him, three long, agonizing days of silence. Each moment without a word from him gnawed at me, a dull ache that deepened with every passing hour.
