Chapter 4

Author: Emerald Woods
I shivered as I made my way back to the cabin. Vivian was waiting by the door, leaning against a tree trunk.

She looked concerned and spoke quietly, "They went too far! Are you okay?"

I opened my palms and saw deep nail marks. My knees still hurt from the cold. "I'm fine."

Vivian put a hand out to steady me. "The messenger only told Randy that you and Annie had made up. He left out the part about you having to kneel, and Annie didn't say a word about it either."

She glanced around, pissed off for my sake. "Those bastards are twisting the truth!"

Back in the cabin, I shut the door and leaned against it for a while, trying to calm down.

That evening, I heard footsteps crunching through the snow outside. Randy was back.

He opened the door and looked at my calm face. "They told me you two worked it out."

Randy's voice softened, his gaze fixed on me as if he were trying to read my expression. He didn't ask anything more. "This ends here. Don't cause any more trouble."

He had no idea that I'd just been forced to kneel in the snow in front of everyone.

…

In the days that followed, as I waited for my chance to leave, the others picked on me wherever I went. Although Randy told everyone to drop it, they still targeted me, but now in secret.

Whenever I went to fetch water, someone would deliberately bump my bucket with their shoulder. When I stepped into the storage room to collect firewood, conversations paused, and they gave me hostile looks.

I didn't fight back. I just counted down the days and packed my belongings.

One evening, I went for a walk but stopped at the edge of the cedar grove. Randy stood under a tree, holding Annie's wrist gently as he applied ointment to her wound.

He looked down at her, his gaze fixed on her face. There was a subtle but unmistakable intimacy in the air between them.

I knew this scene all too well.

Randy used to look at me the same way, gently and patiently cleansing the dirt around my wounds.

His tenderness didn't just disappear. He had simply given it to someone else.

Randy looked up and saw me standing in the shadows. "What are you doing here?"

He didn't flinch or look flustered. He stared straight at me, his eyes dark and gloomy. My calm demeanor seemed to grate on him.

"Did you need something from me?"

"I was just passing by."

"Nora," he called after me, hesitating before he added, "Don't get the wrong idea."

Annie followed Randy's gaze to me. Yet she stayed close to him, a faint, smug smile on her lips.

I said nothing and headed back down the way I'd come.

When I got back to the cabin, I checked the route markers Vivian had given me. Nothing stirred inside me anymore. All I wanted was to leave this place as soon as possible.

Late that night, Vivian came into the cabin and whispered, "They've changed shifts. You can leave tonight."

I nodded, not mentioning what I'd seen earlier.

The bright red flowers Randy had brought back stood out against the snow, already wilting.

His voice echoed in my mind, "Nora, just wait a little longer."

But I'd already been waiting for a long time. For the past five years, I'd waited for Annie to pass her assessment so she could stay in the pack, then get into the Royal Healing Center.

Now, I didn't want to wait anymore.

I lowered my eyes and held the flowers over the fire, watching them burn.

Then, I took a deep breath, grabbed my bag, and stepped out into the snow.

I'd once loved with all my heart there, but in the end, all that remained was heartbreak. There were no flowers for me in Winterveil, but I found my own in the south. And I found myself too.

  • Rejected Omega: Walking Away for Good   Chapter 9

Randy kept trying to win me back, ignoring his subordinates' advice, but I didn't even glance at the expensive gifts he sent me, and when he asked me to spend the next full moon with him, I didn't show up.Some chances only came once. Once they were gone, there was no making up for them.Randy sat alone under the full moon all night. Early the next morning, he quietly left town, regret heavy in his heart. After returning to Winterveil, he publicly tried Annie for all her crimes. He stripped her of her eligibility to join the healing center, took back all the privileges and supplies he'd given her, and banished her from Winterveil for good. Most of the pack took their cues from the Alpha. Everyone had once admired Annie, but after Randy banished her, they all looked down on her.Annie broke down and begged Randy not to be so cruel, but he didn't budge."I'll spend the rest of my life making up for what I did to Nora. You should pay for your mistakes too."Vivian watched it all wi

I sat in the yard under the warm afternoon sun, arranging the flowers I'd picked in a vase and breathing in the sweet air when I suddenly heard the door open.I looked up and froze for a moment.Randy was standing in the doorway. He'd lost a lot of weight, and dark circles shadowed his eyes. Dust coated his leather coat.A few of his men stood quietly a short distance away.I looked at him calmly, without resentment, longing, or much surprise, as if he were a stranger I'd known a long time ago.My reaction seemed to sting him. He walked toward me."Nora." His voice was hoarse. His eyes were locked onto my face. "I know what Annie did to you and everything that happened at the assessment grounds. It was all my fault. I trusted the wrong person, and I had no idea what you'd been going through. I'm sorry."Regret was written all over his face. "Please come back with me. I've banished the Betas who bullied you, and I'll punish Annie too. From now on, I won't let anyone hurt you agai

In the days that followed, I helped the townspeople treat their wounds and sometimes sat quietly beside the flower fields, growing to love this free and fulfilling lifestyle.Every now and then, passing merchants would bring news from the Winterveil pack. I heard rumors that Randy had sent out many werewolves to search for me.But I just listened, without feeling much of anything. That day, I received a letter from Vivian. Randy had found out she'd helped me escape from the pack, but she was still safe. Though he was angry, Vivian's abilities were undeniable. She kept questioning him until he finally gave in and stopped asking."Don't worry. I'm doing fine. You'll have to take good care of yourself."I finally relaxed.Randy had grown increasingly irritable. While he frantically searched for me, Annie gathered her courage and cautiously hugged him from behind, confessing her love. "Alpha Randy, she's already left you. Why won't you consider me? I truly love you."Her words stok

Meanwhile, in the Winterveil pack, Randy's face grew darker with each report from his subordinates. They'd searched the entire territory, from the caves and snowy woods to the hidden shelters where werewolves could escape the wind, but they still couldn't find me."Alpha Randy, we still can't find Nora. She's only an Omega. She might not survive if she tries to cross the mountains alone," one of his subordinates reported, head bowed."Impossible." Randy looked up, his voice firm. "She's just throwing a tantrum and hiding somewhere. She'll come back once she's calmed down. I told her I'd prepare for the marking ceremony once I was done dealing with Annie's situation. She wouldn't want to leave me."He believed I was just jealous of Annie and that I was trying to gain his attention by leaving.Randy got angry, thinking I was trying to manipulate him, but deep down, something didn't feel right."Alpha Randy, don't worry. Nora just isn't thinking straight right now." Annie gently pla

I walked away without looking back. My bag was light, as I had left all my old things behind, including the bracelet and the sketchbook. The ashes of the bouquet I'd thrown into the fire still remained in the cabin, burned to nothing along with the last bit of hope I had left in Randy. The mind-link still connected us, so I could sense his emotions even across the vast greenlands. I could feel his anger and his wounded pride. He probably thought I was throwing another tantrum, jealous of Annie and trying to make him give in by running away.He had no idea I wasn't planning on coming back this time. The road south was full of dangers, and my vision blurred the moment the wind picked up. I searched for shelter from the unforgiving weather, eating my dry food whenever I got hungry. The cold wind kept stabbing at my old wounds. As my body trembled uncontrollably in the freezing snow, memories of my time in the pack flooded my mind.I thought about the humiliation I'd suffered at the
