Ava's POV

I stopped trying to convince the driver after the first twenty minutes.

He was not going to turn the car around. He had his orders and he believed in them and nothing I said was reaching him. I sat back and looked out the tinted window and watched the city give way to open road and told myself to think rather than panic.

My phone was gone. He had taken it from my bag while helping me into the car — smoothly, the way someone does a thing they have practised. My hands were free. The doo

Ava's POVThe pack house was exactly as I remembered it.Same smell. Same lights. Same walls. The same particular weight of a place that had never welcomed me, which I felt now as a different kind of pressure — not fear exactly, more like the specific exhaustion of someone being forced to revisit something they had already survived and put down.I had fought hard to leave this place.I had left it on my own terms, in a red dress, with Sebastian's hand in mine and every person who had ever dismissed me watching from the entrance.I was back in clothes I had not chosen, in the middle of the night, having not eaten for ten hours.I allowed myself exactly thirty seconds of feeling sorry about that. Then I ate the spaghetti Jackson brought and it was excellent and I ate all of it without speaking to him and when the maid took the plate away I went to the bathroom and washed my face and told myself to sleep.I would figure out the rest in the morning.Jackson had put me in the Alpha's wing.

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    The Pursuit

Ava's POVSix hours on a yacht with motion sickness and no phone and a man who believed he was saving me.I sat by the window and watched the water and said nothing because every time I opened my mouth to explain myself Jackson looked at me with that patient, immovable expression that made me want to throw something into the sea.He tried conversation three times. I did not participate. He offered food. I declined, knowing what would happen to it within minutes given how my stomach was feeling. He made a note of something in his mind — I could see him doing it — and I knew he was planning to feed me the moment we arrived.I appreciated the consideration. I was still furious with him.The water was dark and the yacht was warm and I pressed my forehead against the glass and thought about Sebastian.I calculated the timeline in my head. He would have returned to the company around five. Vanessa would have told him. He would have pulled the camera footage within the hour. He was systemati

Ava's POVThe car stopped after another thirty minutes of driving in silence.Jackson got out and held the door open and extended his hand.I looked at it.Then I turned my face to the other window."You can stay in the car," he said pleasantly. "It will be here until morning. You do not know your way back and it will be dark very soon." A pause. "I would not recommend being alone out here at night."I hated that he was right.I got out without taking his hand. The smell reached me first — salt and open water and the particular weight of night air near the sea. Then I turned and saw it, vast and dark, the surface catching what was left of the evening light in long silver lines. To the left, a yacht sat moored at a small private dock. Large. Well maintained. Entirely out of place in a context that included a werewolf alpha who had just committed a kidnapping in a foreign kingdom."You stole that," I said."I paid for the use of it," he said. "Generously.""You want me to get on a yacht

There were six men in another car behind us, which I had seen before I got in.Running was not an option.Talking to Jackson directly was.One hour later the car slowed into an open field.Jackson was already there, standing in the centre of it with a handful of men around him, and even through the tinted glass I could see the particular tension in his posture — anticipation, relief, the physical expression of someone who has been waiting too long for something. He genuinely beli

Ava's POVI heard the knock and groaned internally.Sebastian made a sound that was entirely undignified for the most powerful man alive.I was already moving — gathering myself, smoothing the dress back into place, repacking my hair into something that could pass for intentional. Sebastian pulled his shirt back on with considerably less urgency, watching me with the expression of a man who found my efficiency both admirable and irritating."We can finish at home," I said, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. "I am not ruining my first day because Vanessa needed something and I did not answer.""Whatever she needed," Sebastian said, working his buttons with visible reluctance, "had better be genuinely important.""Let me get the door." I straightened his collar and turned before he could pull me back.I opened it expecting Vanessa.Edwin stood in the doorway, took one look at my smudged lipstick and hastily packed hair, and had the decency to keep most of his expression neutral."Hello,

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    Soundproof

Ava's POVMrs Garrett was already at her desk when Sebastian led me in — blonde hair in a tight bun, reading glasses, a posture that communicated professional competence without any effort at all. She looked up when we entered and stood immediately."King Sebastian. Good morning.""Mrs Garrett. This is Ava. She will be working with you on this floor going forward."Mrs Garrett looked at me.I extended my hand. "Ava Wellington. I am looking forward to working with you."Her handshake was firm and her smile was genuine. "Likewise."Sebastian left us to it.The moment the door closed behind him Mrs Garrett tilted her head and studied me with the focused assessment of someone who had worked for Sebastian long enough to know when something was out of the ordinary."You are the mate," she said. Not a question.I blinked. "I thought that had not been officially announced."She clapped her hands once, delighted. "I knew it. He has never brought a woman to this building. Not once in the years
