Karline’s POV

The chandelier above the long mahogany table cast its golden glow over rows of polished cutlery and crystal glasses. The air smelled of roasted lamb, buttered vegetables, and wine, but my stomach twisted so much I could hardly taste the scents.

Reid walked beside me, his hand never once touching mine, his silence as heavy as the walls around us. When we entered the dining room, everyone was already seated.

His family.

His father, Richard, calm, quiet, always watching but rarely interfering.

His mother, Margaret, sharp, proud, her eyes always lingering on me as though I had stolen something that belonged to her.

His sister, Lydia, beautiful, polished, her words sweet but laced with poison.

His brother, Daniel, aloof, sipping his wine as though the drama of this family was merely entertainment.

Uncle Henry and Aunt Sara, a sweet couple..

And of course, Natalie.

Always Natalie.

Seated right beside Margaret as though she had more right to be there than

  • Rejected by my Husband    Chapter 14

Karline’s POVNine months. That’s how long I lived like a ghost in my own home.Reid was there, but he wasn’t with me. His presence was cold, calculated, like a stranger who shared the same roof. He never raised his voice, never lashed out, but his silence was louder than any cruelty.Every morning, I would wake up clutching my stomach, praying today might be different. Maybe he’d ask if I slept well, maybe he’d touch my belly, maybe he’d smile even faintly. But all I’d get was his back as he buttoned his shirt, his hand reaching for his tie, his voice low and detached.“Breakfast is on the table?”I’d nod, holding back tears. “Yes, Reid.”He’d leave without even looking at me, the sound of the door closing echoing through the emptiness of my chest. At night, it was the same. He slept in the guest bedroom. I would wait, sometimes preparing his favorite dishes, hoping he’d at least sit with me for dinner. Sometimes he came late, too late to eat. Sometimes he came early but didn’t touch

  • Rejected by my Husband    Chapter 13

Karline’s POV The morning sun spilled into the hall, painting the marble floor in streaks of gold. I sat there waiting, my hands clenched tight on the edge of the couch. My eyes were fixed on the door. I hadn’t slept all night. My heart was aching, my mind replaying Reid’s words again and again. Is the child mine? I pressed my palm against my stomach, whispering to the little life inside. “He will believe us… he has to. He’s your father.” The sound of footsteps clicked against the floor, light and sharp. I looked up, my chest tightening when I saw her. Natalie. Her lips curved into a smug little smile as she stepped into the hall, her expensive heels tapping deliberately. She looked me up and down with those condescending eyes before speaking, her voice coated in false sweetness. “You should be grateful, Karline.” My brows furrowed. “Grateful?” She tilted her head. “Yes. The only reason Reid hasn’t divorced you yet is because of the baby in your womb. Without that child, you w

  • Rejected by my Husband    Chapter 12

Karline’s POV My fork clinked softly against the porcelain as I pushed back my chair. My chest felt tight, the air in the room suffocating. “Excuse me,” I murmured, forcing calm into my tone. “I’m not feeling well. I’ll go and rest.” I was halfway up when Natalie’s sweet voice cut through the hum of the dinner conversation. “Not feeling well?” She tilted her head, a knowing smile tugging at her lips. “Oh… pregnancy hormones must be kicking in.” The room fell into stunned silence. Richard’s fork dropped against his plate. Lydia’s wineglass froze halfway to her mouth. Aunt Clara blinked in surprise, and even Uncle Henry sat straighter. But it was Daniel’s voice that broke the silence, sharp with disbelief. “Pre… pregnant?” His eyes shot straight to me, then to Reid. “She’s pregnant?” My heart thudded painfully. I looked at Reid, confused, my voice trembling. “Reid… you didn’t tell them?” I was three and a half months along. How could he not have told his family? A dozen voices

  • Rejected by my Husband    Chapter 10

Karline’s POVThat night, I couldn’t take it anymore. The silence. The distance. The unanswered questions that ate at me like fire.I heard the front door click open past ten, his familiar footsteps echoing through the hallway. My heart raced as I stood from the couch, the sonogram reports clutched tightly in my hand.“Reid,” I called softly. He stopped, turning his head slightly. His face was unreadable, shadowed by exhaustion.I took a step closer, my throat tight. “I went to the doctor today. For a checkup.”His eyes flickered, the faintest shift in his expression. I quickly held out the papers, my hands trembling. “These are the reports. Everything is fine. The baby is healthy.”For a long moment, he didn’t move. Just stared at me, at the reports I was holding out like some fragile offering. Then, slowly, he reached for them. His fingers brushed mine—brief, cold, but real.He looked down at the papers in silence, his lips pressed into a thin line. I searched his face desperately f

  • Rejected by my Husband    Chapter 9

Karline’s POV (After One Month)It had been a month since that night. A month since my world shattered in the VIP room of that club.Reid hadn’t touched me since. He barely looked at me, barely spoke, like I was a ghost haunting his house. The silence between us was worse than shouting—cold, sharp, unending. But tonight, I had to tell him.My hands trembled as I clutched the test results in my purse. My heart pounded so hard it hurt. I found him in his study, the glow of his laptop screen lighting his tired face. He looked up when I entered, his eyes wary, guarded. “Reid,” I whispered, my throat dry.He closed his laptop slowly, waiting. Not speaking.I forced myself to breathe, my fingers knotting together in front of me. “I… I need to tell you something. Something important.”His brow furrowed. “What is it?”I swallowed hard, my chest tight. Then the words slipped out, trembling but true.“I...I'm pregnant.”For a moment, silence. Then his eyes widened, shock flashing across his fa
