Pain was the first thing I felt.

Not the dull ache of a bruise or the sting of a cut.

This was deeper.

It pulsed through my chest like something alive, beating harder than my own heart, sending sharp waves of heat and cold through my veins.

I stirred with a weak groan.

The smell of antiseptic filled my nose. The sheets beneath me were too clean, too stiff.

The pack hospital.

My eyes fluttered open slowly.

For a moment everything was blurry.

Then a familiar face leaned forward suddenly.

“Liora!”

Tessa.

Her brown eyes filled instantly with tears as she rushed to my side, grabbing my hand tightly.

“Oh thank the Moon Goddess,” she breathed, her voice shaking. “You’re awake.”

Warm tears slid down her cheeks as she laughed softly in relief.

“I was so scared,” she whispered, squeezing my fingers. “You just collapsed and—”

My throat felt dry.

“Tessa…” I murmured weakly.

She leaned closer immediately.

“I’m here,” she said softly.

My eyes moved around the small hospital room.

White walls.

Quiet machines.

Soft moonlight filtering through the window.

Then I looked back at her.

“Where’s my mom?”

As if the question summoned her, the door opened.

My mother stepped inside.

“Liora…”

Her voice broke the moment she saw my eyes open.

She hurried across the room and stopped beside the bed, relief flooding her face.

“You’re awake.”

I frowned slightly.

“What happened to me?”

My mother and Tessa exchanged a quick glance.

Then my mother answered carefully.

“You fainted.”

I watched her.

“Why?”

She hesitated.

The word sat clearly in the air between us even before she said it.

“Because of the…” She paused.

My chest tightened.

“…the ceremony.”

She couldn’t say it.

The rejection.

Silence settled in the room.

I stared at the ceiling for a moment.

Then a small bitter smile pulled at my lips.

A single tear slipped from the corner of my eye, sliding down my temple.

Of course.

The entire pack saw it.

My humiliation wasn’t exactly private.

Tessa noticed the tear immediately.

“Hey,” she murmured softly.

She wiped it away with her thumb and gently cupped my cheek.

“It’s okay.”

Her voice was warm and protective.

But I just turned my head slowly toward my mother.

“Where’s dad?”

The room grew quiet again.

My mother froze slightly.

Her hesitation told me everything before she even spoke.

But it wasn’t new.

Not really.

My father had never looked at me the same way after the day the elders declared I had no wolf.

The Beta of the pack… with a wolfless daughter.

A disappointment.

An embarrassment.

The pack probably thought the same.

My brother barely acknowledged my existence unless he had to. To him, I was nothing but a burden that dragged down the Beta family’s reputation.

And my sister…

I could practically hear the pack whispering it every day.

*She should have been the Alpha’s mate.*

Brunette hair.

Blue eyes.

Slim.

Perfect.

Everything a future Luna should be.

Unlike me.

Dark hair.

Green eyes.

Tall and… awkwardly there.

A mistake standing where perfection should have been.

Only my mother had ever looked at me with love.

Even if most of the time it was quiet… hidden.

Suddenly a sharp pain shot through my chest.

I gasped.

My hand flew to my heart.

“Liora?” Tessa’s voice filled with panic.

“What’s wrong?” my mother asked quickly, leaning forward.

“It… hurts,” I whispered.

The throbbing spread again, deep and relentless.

Tessa gently brushed my hair away from my forehead.

“It’ll fade,” she said softly, though worry filled her voice. “You’re weak right now. And tired. Your body doesn’t have the extra support to deal with the—”

I cut her off quietly.

“Because I’m wolfless.”

The word tasted bitter.

“A measly wolfless girl.”

Neither of them spoke.

Then my mother’s phone suddenly rang.

The sound cut sharply through the room.

She frowned and stepped aside to answer it.

“Yes?”

Her expression changed as she listened.

The color slowly drained from her face.

“…Okay.”

She ended the call slowly.

For a moment she just stood there.

Then she walked back to my bed.

“What is it?” I asked weakly.

My mother looked at me carefully.

“The court adjourns tomorrow.”

My brows pulled together.

“Court?”

Her voice lowered.

“The pack council.”

A cold feeling crept through my chest.

Then she said the words that made the air in the room feel heavy.

“We have to face the Alpha.”

  • Rejected by my cursed alpha mate   Not a dog

Those silver eyes held me captive for what felt like eternity; neither of us looked away. He looked over me, standing tall with his arms stretched on either side of the couch, while I sat down with hands on my lap, holding the book and looking up at him, god this would be such a picture-perfect pose, except we are not that kind of couple. Hell, we are not even a couple. But that thought of intimacy pulls emotions in me. No matter what, he was still my mate, engraved in my soul. But fate has its own ways. “Why are you here?” He asks in his deep voice, that sends a shiver down my spine and electricity between my legs. Fuck. I swallow, pulling up my husky voice, “I couldn’t sleep.” I reply honestly.“Hmmm.” He says softly. And all the while still holding my stare. Okay. This continues even for another second. I shall let myself be misled into either meeting his fury or disgust, and in both senses, it means disregard. I already have a PhD and wouldn’t want to improve my accolades. So I

  • Rejected by my cursed alpha mate   Furry fury

Sleep refuses to come to me tonight. It lingers at the edges, teasing, but never settling. Every time I close my eyes, his voice pulls me back.“Don’t give yourself too much credit.”The words echo again. And again. And again.I turn to my side, gripping the pillow as if I can bury the memory into it. It doesn’t work. If anything, the words grow sharper, clearer, like they are etched somewhere inside me.A dull ache spreads through my chest. Not sudden. Not loud.Just constant.Pressing.I shut my eyes tightly. Why does it hurt this much?I expect nothing from him. I *know* what he is. What I am. There is no illusion left to break. And yet… those words still find a way in.I turn onto my back. Then the other side. The sheets twist around me, mirroring the restlessness in my mind.“This is ridiculous…” I whisper. With a frustrated huff, I throw the covers aside and sit up.Enough.If sleep won’t come, I won’t chase it.My feet touch the cool wooden floor, grounding me instantly. I stan

  • Rejected by my cursed alpha mate   Slit

The door closed behind her.For a moment the room stayed silent.I stood exactly where I was, staring at the empty space where Liora had been a second ago. Her scent still lingered faintly in the air. UrhhhThen—My fist slammed into the wall. The crack echoed through the room.Plaster broke under the impact and pain shot across my knuckles.“What’s wrong with you, man?” Jayden said quickly. He stepped forward and grabbed my wrist, turning my hand to inspect it.Blood slowly formed where the skin had split.I didn’t answer. Does this gurl even know what she does to me? I’m a bloody beast and yet her faint lavender triggers me in ways I’ve never felt before. Jayden sighed.“This isn’t good for you.”Still silence. He leaned back against the desk and folded his arms.“It might be better if you just send her home.”That made my head turn slightly.“If you want,” he continued, “I can stay there for a few days. Keep an eye on things.”A pause.“Or we send her somewhere else for a while.”

  • Rejected by my cursed alpha mate   Too much credit

For a moment after he asked the question, the room felt unnaturally still.“How are you?”I blinked. The question caught me completely off guard.I wasn’t expecting it. Not from him.Jayden looked at Kael too, his brows knitting slightly in surprise. But Kael didn’t look at him.His eyes remained on me.Steady.Unreadable.Waiting.The silence stretched longer than it should have. Long enough for my heartbeat to grow louder in my ears.I lowered my gaze, suddenly very aware of the space between us.“I…” My voice felt smaller than usual. “I am okay.”The words came out softly.Almost automatically. Two minutes of silence followed. Two full minutes where neither Jayden nor I spoke, and Kael simply stood there watching me.Then he cleared his throat quietly. The small sound broke the tension slightly. And for a brief moment… something warm stirred inside my chest. It was strange. The way he had asked. The way he was still looking at me.As if my answer actually mattered. But the warmth l

  • Rejected by my cursed alpha mate   Always only one

The corridor leading to the Alpha’s office inside the pack house was quiet when I reached it.Too quiet. The warm lantern lights along the walls cast long shadows across the polished floor, and for a moment I simply stood outside the door, trying to steady the strange unease sitting in my chest.Mara had said the Alpha wanted to see me the moment I returned. So I came.I lifted my hand to knock. Before my knuckles could touch the door—A loud voice burst from inside.“How could you do this?!”Lumia. Her voice was sharp and furious, echoing through the room.I froze instantly.“Just shut up,” Jayden snapped back. “You know exactly why this is happening.”My hand stayed suspended in the air.“But Arora? I thought we—”“There was, is, and will never be anything.”Kael’s voice cut through the room.Calm.Cold.Final.Silence followed. The kind that settles thick in the air. Then suddenly—A loud, sarcastic giggle.“Sure,” Lumia said mockingly.“But I’ll tell you one thing, Kael.”Her voic
