Rosalie's POV

I woke the second time with a clearer head, and a clearer head meant a longer list of questions I intended to get real answers to.

Daylight filtered faintly through a gap in the tent flap, gray and thin. My ribs still ached, but the sharp, stabbing pain from before had dulled into something manageable, and my thoughts, at least, had stopped sliding around like loose gravel.

Elias was there again. Of course he was. Sitting on the same low stool, elbows braced on his knees, like he

Elias POVPractice was hell on purpose and if I wasn’t captain, I’d sprawl into the ground and take a breather but that wasn’t the case.Coach had us out there an hour early and kept us an hour late. No pucks at first, just skating, laps and laps until the ice was chewed up and my legs were shaking so bad I thought they would give out. He does this when he is nervous about a big game. He skates the fear out of us."Again!" he shouted from the bench, his whistle screaming so loud my ears rang. "You skate like old men! My grandmother skates faster and she is dead!"We all groaned but we skated again. First line, second line, rookies at the back wheezing. I am captain now. I had to be at the front even when my lungs are on fire. That is the job. You don't stop, even when you want to puke. After the twelfth lap, Coach finally blew the whistle and let us get our sticks. My thighs were burning. My jersey was stuck to my back with sweat."Circle up! Now! In the middle! Let's go!"We all skat

Rosalie’s povI laid there on the couch, my brain still blank. My eyes glanced over at the wall clock and I could tell that he wouldn’t be home for another four to five hours.“I better start working” I mumbled under my breath, moving out of the living room and heading to the small kitchenette we had. I needed to do something with my hands before my head ate me alive.I started washing the dishes this morning. The same two mugs, his protein shaker that always smelled like vanilla no matter how much I scrubbed it, my little plate. Elder Knox's words kept looping in my head, mates of such wolves dying young, it felt more like a threat than a diagnosis.I had seen the way Elias looked when he told me. He was trying to be brave for me, but I know that look now, it’s his captain look. The look he gets before a tough game when he knows someone might get hurt but he has to go out there anyway.I rinsed my hands and pressed them to my chest again, nothing, no thump that wasn't my own heart,

Rosalie’s povI settled in the seat right next to Elias and he wasted no time before slipping his hand into mine. I squeezed firmly to tell him that I was alright even when I knew that deep down, I wasn’t.“Did he say anything else while I was gone?” I asked on the drive home.He hesitated a bit before turning to look at me. If there was one thing I knew about Elias, he’d never lie. So he pulled up on the side of the road and focused on me, which meant that this was going to be serious.“He said something about white wolves being dangerous and their mates dying” he revealed, sending a shiver down my spine. The cold felt really strong but it wasn’t just from the breeze, it was from the realization that wasn’t just a dream.“Don’t worry, you’re not a white wolf and even if you are, I don’t care” his eyes searched me.“But I’d be dangerous to you…I might..kill you” I stuttered and he cupped my face in his palms again, centering me. “Look at me..” he pleaded even when I tried to look awa

Elias’ povAfter there were weird sounds coming from outside, I decided to check what that was. The blistering cold reached all parts of my semi clothed skin. Maybe it wasn’t a great idea to just have a robe to my skin without a pair of pants. I listened some more for that sound that brought me out, that disrupted my routine of watching her sleep. Although today she looked perturbed in her sleep, sweating and everything.Just as my ears listened some more I turned back to the door and noticed a small frame rushing towards me.“Rosalie..” I called out with my arms stretched out as she ran into me, tightening her grip around my body with each second that it almost felt hard to breathe. “I thought..I thought that you were gone”My eyes focused on her and I cupped her face in my hand, causing her grip to loosen. “I’m not going anywhere” I said subtly, watching tears pool in her eyes. “I only came out here to check something out” “So..so you’re not leaving?” She sniffled. “No, no, ofcou

Rosalie’s povI heard her again for the first time in ages. It was subtle and calm, reassuring even. “You good?” He asked and I waited for her voice again but there was nothing. “I thought I heard her” my voice mumbled. I used the back of my palm to wipe the sweat on my forehead. “But there’s nothing but silence” “Calm down” he placed his palms on my shoulder. “Maybe she’s taking her time”“Or I’m exhausted. I probably am exhausted” I swallowed hard. “Maybe I need to rest and give myself some time” I said, turning away from him so the tears that pooled up in my eyes could flow some more. “Please Rosa, can you calm down? Are you okay” He inquired, yes it was for my own good but I didn’t want to stay paranoid but that is what happens when your wolf is dormant and it makes people think you’re a wolfless human who just wandered and ended up with royalty.“I’m fine” my voice managed to choke out.The drive home, I remained quiet with the flask in hand. My eyes consistently stayed on th

Rosalie’s povLately he looked really good with damp hair, broad shoulders and darned smile, my eyes lingered on him longer than I was meant to and that was weird, there was no way I was thinking that he was that attractive. Well he didn’t look half bad, especially with training going on. His hair, broad shoulders and buff build, sometimes I stared so hard that I drooled, thankfully, this wasn’t one of those moments.“Most people consider it rude to stare” his chuckle rippled through my thoughts, causing me to close my mouth. My eyes flickered with anxiety. “I..I wasn’t, wasn’t staring” I lied, trying to distract myself with the cup of cocoa in my hand when he pulled down his shirt that looked so body conned because it clinged to his chest and biceps.“Whatever you say, wife” he smiled and moved closer to me before pressing his lips onto my cheek. “See you soon” he smiled before leaving.I tapped my finger onto the place his lips had touched and felt heat grow inside of me. “Oh, an
