Chapter 11 - Preparation

Jessica POV

I had been in the dungeons for almost a week. I had little food, but no more abuse. I had been given a change of clothes, so I was a bit warmer, but no blanket. Having to listen to the rogues being abused during my stay had been enough of a punishment.

I was not convinced all of them were even guilty. They were beaten to death, their bodies left behind for days. The smell of decay was rancid in the dungeons, and I could not wait to be released. I had even started to fantasize that perhaps the old Alpha would turn out to be a decent man. I was clearly becoming delirious.

I heard the dungeon doors open and heard the steady footsteps of my father. I knew it was him. I had spent a lifetime listening to those footsteps and nobody could ever erase that sound from my brain. I stood up, waiting for him to make his appearance.
