Jessica POV We spent the next couple of days training to the warriors training programs. They had been challenging Cole and me increasingly every day. They had been willing to put themselves in harm’s way to give us more training variations. Cole POV We had spent hours with Marly and Carson fighting us. We were getting stronger but had yet to master using talents to our advantage. For that matter, I was still learning what special powers I had even inherited from Jess. I did not have everything she could do but the powers I did have seemed to be stronger than hers. Even though Jessica was focused on training, she was also learning from Marly some of her responsibilities as the Beta Female. I was in awe with everything that was being thrown at her, Jessica was absorbing and welcoming the challenge that came with the role. “When we are done training today, I have a couple families I want to visit,” Jessica shared with me. “Oh?” I asked unclear what might have been pressing enough to draw her attention from training. “Two of the wounded warriors are returning home today. I want to stop over and pass along my wishes for a speedy recovery,” she shared.

Cole POV As we were getting closer to the anticipated battle date, the tension increased throughout the pack. Jessica was training every day. She was stronger and the warriors were getting stronger. They were learning how to work with her. It was magical watching them support each other. Jessica was thriving. Watching her engage with the warriors was showing them who she was. It was also building her confidence being around others as well as her fighting abilities. As I watched her, I learned her patterns and could see myself fighting beside her. I had not told anybody, but I was starting to experience headaches the past week. I had managed to hide the pain from Jessica and had not shared anything with Carson. Jessica POV We had been practicing everything for a few days and had not seen or heard anything from Elder Susan. I was both relieved and anxious. Cole POV We had spent most of the night waiting for news on the injured warriors. They had spent most of the night in surgery and it was only early morning that we learned they would make a full recovery after some time in physiotherapy. I knew Jessica was relieved, as we all were. It still bothered me that Elder Susan had done something this reckless. Carson and I were speaking in the hall, while Jessica visited with the partners of the injured warriors. “This is getting out of hand,” Carson commented quietly. “I do not understand why she thought this was a good idea,” I agreed. “Unfortunately, we need to cut her loose. We cannot have her here training with our warriors and Jessica. I no longer trust her,” Carson admitted. I paused for a moment, “I know Elder Susan is Jessica’s grandmother, but I believe Jessica will also agree Susan has overstayed her welcome,” I confirmed. “I do agree.
