The Sweet scent of Revenge

It was daybreak, and Alexandra woke up from her slumber because of her phone vibrating on the table.

While waking up from the armchair her neck ached, because of the uncomfortable position she was sleeping the whole night. She yawned and stretched her arms like a lazy cat.

She indolently picked up the phone and grunts in annoyance after recognising the caller ID. She unwillingly answered the call.

"Yes, grandfather?" She asked in annoyance and gnashed her teeth to stop herself from being rude.

"You were drinking again, weren't you?" The voice was stern, bold and alarming, which was scarier than a lion's roar. That voice could keep people on their toes.

A husky old man with a scruffy white beard resembling him to Santa Claus, except that he was a much scarier version of him which would make children run for the hills.

Her grandfather Benjamin Winchester was the chairperson of the multinational company 'Royal Steel'.Nicknamed 'The Man of Steel' because of his temperament as tough as steel.

His very name could make people kneel on the ground. The only person who dared to look into those fearsome grey eyes was Alexandra. Only she was worthy of looking him in the eyes without an ounce of fear in them.

"I had a nightmare," she bluntly answered while she ignored his warning.

"And alcohol solves that?" He retorted her sharply. Hearing she had a nightmare. His tone softened, but he was still angry that his granddaughter was drinking alcohol as a remedy to cure her sorrow.

"Alcohol is the best solution out there. Grandpa," she nonchalantly replied, shrugging her shoulders.

"You brat! I don't want to see you dead before I die! Understand?" Hearing her blunt joke, Benjamin Winchester's last string of patience broke.

He couldn't believe how shameless his granddaughter had become in the last four years. Worried about her 24/7 because she never took care of herself and no one was there to take care of her.

The housemaid was on leave, and she wasn't letting any other maid replace her. Although she had promised him she wouldn't smoke or use harmful and addictive drugs. He was always doubtful about her.

Will she ever stop making this old man worry?

"Don't you have anything better to do other than nagging me like a crazy old lady early in the morning?" She snapped back at him, rubbing her temples in annoyance. She wanted to break that phone and also the old man's neck.

After hearing his annoyed granddaughter, he took a deep breath to calm himself. He had to persuade her, and he couldn't do that by making her angry.

"Little Alex, you know why I nag you like a crazy old woman? It's because you always make me worry about you...all day and night." His voice turned tender with each word.

"You are the most treasured gem of the Winchester household and if something happens to you, I cannot bear it."

"You are all alone in America in that deserted villa. I don't want you to suffer anymore. I want you to find your happiness, so come back to England, back to your grandpa."

Alexandra gripped her phone tightly as if she was about to crush it in her hand. She bit her lower lip to stop the unruly words that were threatening to come out of her mouth.

She was angry at first, but later on, she found it funny. She wanted to laugh at her grandfather's words. That place was the definition of hell for her.

That place had given her everything except happiness. The words 'love' and 'happiness' are just insignificant words that don't hold any meaning in her life.

Back then, she was so desperate for love that she lost all her human essence. She couldn't even give a genuine smile to anyone.

It's been ages since she gave a heartfelt smile to anybody because she cannot abolish the fake emotions she conceived to hide the traumas she has gone through over the years.

That demon is still there, ready to destroy her the moment she returns. She did not want to face that horrid mother who mentally tortured her by labeling her with sinful names.

She didn't want to face that treacherous sister who gave her the taste of betrayal by pushing her to the deepest pits of hell.

She didn't want to see the man who broke her again and again without mercy. If not for her grandfather, she would have become an empty shell. Lifeless and helpless.

Benjamin always doted on his oldest granddaughter as she's the apple of his eye. A gift that God had given him to cherish.

He was unforgiving of his daughter, who never loved this child just because she wasn't born from love. He was never fond of Anastasia.

Alexandra's younger sister. He found her vile, like her father, who loved power and status and will stab people's backs for their gain.

"What about Edward?" She asked, her heart thudded after uttering that devious name.

"Don't worry, I and your brother will do something about it, my child. Halton won't let him set foot in England." Benjamin assured her in all seriousness.

He knew how much she had feared that man, and that was the person stopping her from coming back alive.

"Give me one good reason to come back" Hearing it, a ray of hope sparked inside her grandfather's chest.

He wanted to bring his granddaughter back to the world where she could rule instead of hiding in the shadows of fear from four years ago. He smiled like a fool.

Although she couldn't see, she could imagine the old man smiling like an idiot on the other side.

"Tell me, will you not get revenge on the people that had wronged you?"

Hearing the word 'Revenge' her ears perked. Like she had heard something very interesting.

Never in these four years of her life she had thought about revenge. She was no better than a living corpse.

She was grateful that she was alive but did not dare ask for more like before. Afraid that if she asked for more, even the life she had would take away from her.

"Humans without a purpose are better off dead," She thought. She was an idiot for being scared and running from the past.

Her grandfather knew he had already lit the fire in her. He hung up on the phone without waiting for her reply.

"Revenge. huh?" her lips turned up into an evil smirk. She glanced at the window. The moonlight is now replaced by the sun's golden rays.

Her eyes, the color of molten copper and gold, shone brilliance, her lips beautifully stretching into a devious smile.

"I have nothing to lose anyway than revenge it is."
