Julia’s POV
On that day, the news was plastered with headlines about the scandal. Every channel, every gossip column, every blog—everyone was obsessing over the same topic: the broken marriage. The speculations were as wild as they were entertaining. Some said the reason I had called it off was because I’d discovered my ex-husband was a psychopath. Others claimed he was secretly gay. The most ridiculous one was that he had some kind of… well, “problem” in the bedroom.
I sat cross-legged on my bed, clutching a tub of popcorn in one hand and my glass of cold orange juice in the other. I couldn’t stop laughing as they paraded expert opinions and anonymous “sources” on screen. If they only knew the truth. My ex-husband was no psychopath. The fact that the whole city had turned it into a soap opera was just the cherry on top.
As I was savoring the absurdity of it all, my phone buzzed on the bedside table. It was Isabella, my best friend and the only person who’d been in my corner through the entire ordeal.
“Hey, you watching this circus?” I answered, putting her on speaker while I grabbed another handful of popcorn.
“Of course I am!” Isabella’s voice was brimming with excitement. “You’ve single-handedly turned this city upside down. I’m honestly impressed.”
“Thanks, I aim to entertain.”
She laughed. “Well, the show’s great, but I think you’ve had enough solo time as the star of this scandal. Get dressed—I’m taking you out.”
I frowned, setting my juice down. “Out where?”
“Anywhere that isn’t your room. You’ve been cooped up since you broke it off with that jackass. You deserve a little fun.”
“I don’t know, Isabella…” I trailed off, glancing at the TV where a panel of so-called experts were now debating whether I was “emotionally unstable.” “This is kind of fun.”
“Watching strangers psychoanalyze you on live television? Please. You can’t let them win by hiding away. Show the world you’re thriving.” She added.

In the nightclub, the pulsating rhythm of the loud music filled the room as neon lights cast shifting colors across the crowded dance floor. Isabella stood beside me in our private booth, her gaze locked onto mine with a mix of exasperation.
“I still can’t believe you finally gave up on Alex,” she said, sipping her cocktail. “Do you know how many times I told you he wasn’t worth it? How many times I said you deserved better? And now, suddenly, you’ve let go?”
I rolled my eyes and leaned back against the plush leather seat. “It wasn’t sudden, Bella. It took years of lies of being treated like I was disposable. I finally woke up.”
She raised an eyebrow, skeptical. “Sure, but let me hear you say it again. Convince me.”
I chuckled. “I’m done with him. Completely, utterly done, and I’ve never felt lighter.”
Isabella smirked, clearly still unconvinced. Without a word, she scanned the dance floor below and pointed to a tall, handsome man moving fluidly to the beat. His dark hair was slightly tousled, his sharp jawline accentuated by the club’s dim lighting. “Him,” she said, her grin mischievous. “Let’s see how serious you are about moving on.”
Before I could protest, she waved him over. Moments later, he sauntered into the private room, confidence radiating off him. Up close, he was even more striking—broad shoulders, deep green eyes, and a lazy smile that could melt ice.
“Hey,” he said, his voice smooth. “I’m Lucas.” He held out his hand, his gaze locking with mine.
I hesitated for a split second before placing my hand in his. “Nice to meet you, Lucas. I’m Julia,” I said, biting the corner of my lip seductively as I felt a faint blush creep up my cheeks while he held my waist, we both moving slowly to the beat.
“Well, Julia,” he said, leaning slightly closer, “it’s rare to see someone as stunning as you just sitting in a booth. Glad to do this with you.”
I almost forgot how beautiful I looked. My presence could weaken a man’s leg and pride. In my previous life, I was always mistreated by Alex and ignored that I was still attractive. A queen and more.
Suddenly, Lucas’s hand flew to my face as he gently pushed the strands of hair that covered my face. Our eyes were still locked and just then, I began to blush, touched by this gentleman’s gesture. Alex never treated me this way.
Suddenly, the ringing sound of my phone shattered the moment. I looked at my phone screen, it was Mr. Sterling calling, Alex’s grandfather.
Grandfather chose me to be Alex’s wife because he liked me—because he thought I would be good for Alex. I owe him an explanation, at least. He saw something in me, in us, that I can’t seem to find anymore. But how do I tell him that love isn’t enough? That I tried, and it still wasn’t right?
I excused myself to pick the call.
On the other end of the call…
He exhaled. “I was afraid this would happen,” he murmured and for the first time, I felt something I hadn’t expected—pleading.
“I know you’ve made your decision my child,” he continued. “I know you probably feel trapped, like this was never really a good idea. But I need you to understand… I didn’t do this to control you. I didn’t do this to force something that was never meant to be.” He paused.
“I did this because I believe in you. In you both, In what you could be together.” His voice wavered then, just slightly. “I’ve seen what happens when love is left to chance. It slips away. Alex needs time. Give him time to learn to love you, my child.”
I swallowed hard, my chest tightening.
“Alex is on his way to apologise to you, please give him a listening ear.”
Before I could respond, the door to the private room was kicked open with a loud bang. My head snapped toward the entrance, and my heart sank as Alex stormed in, his face a mask of fury.
“Already with another man? You cheap whore!” Seeing Lucas sitting beside me, he accused me but I ignored.
“Cheater!” He pressed again and this time, I couldn’t take it anymore. I took a step towards him and just then, Celeste entered. Obviously he would always take her everywhere he goes, which I’m not even bothered about anymore.
“And how about you sleeping with that woman!” I pointed towards Celeste. “while I was your fiancée?” I added.
I was still holding the phone to my ear, listening to what the old man had to say.
“You’re evil,” Alex spat, his voice sharp. “A manipulative, heartless liar. Everyone sees it.”
I stiffened, gripping the phone tighter as he continued, hurling insults with growing fury. My face burned with anger and humiliation.
Keeping my voice steady, I asked, “Did you hear that, Mr. Sterling?”
Silence. Then a hesitant cough.
“I… well… I—” his grandfather stuttered. “I’m sorry that he said those things.” He added.
“Your grandson doesn’t love me. He never has. “I will not marry him.” I said to Mr. Sterling over the phone before ending the call.
“Stop this nonsense, Julia,” Alex barked, his voice sharp and commanding. “You’re causing a scene. Do you have any idea how serious the public opinion issue is right now? The media is eating this up, and it’s ruining both our reputations.”
I stepped towards him and crossed my arms with a smirk. “And how, exactly, am I causing a scene, Alex? You’re the one barging into a private room like an uninvited lunatic.”
He ignored my jab and stepped closer, towering over me. “Enough of this. You’re resuming the marriage tomorrow. We’ll issue a statement, and everything will go back to normal.”
I laughed, the sound sharp and cutting. “If you’re going to propose, Alex, don’t you think it’s a bit inappropriate to bring another woman with you?” I gestured toward his lover, who shifted uncomfortably under my pointed glare.
Alex’s jaw tightened. “Celeste has nothing to do with this. You and I need to focus on fixing this mess. Stop acting like a child, Julia. You don’t have a choice.”
My smile widened, though my patience thinned. “Oh, but I do have a choice, Alex. And I’ve made it very clear: I’m done with you. I don’t care about your public image, your pathetic attempts to control me.”
Grabbing my purse and turning to leave, Alex moved to block my path. His eyes darkened, his tone dropping to something more dangerous. “You’re not walking away from this, Julia. Stop being so stubborn and think about what’s best for both of us.”
I arched an eyebrow, my lips curling into a cold smile. “If you don’t get out of my way, Alex, I don’t mind making you become exactly what the rumors say.”
He frowned, clearly not understanding. “What the hell does that mean—”
Before he could finish, I kneed him hard in the crotch. He doubled over instantly, a strangled groan escaping his lips as he staggered backward.
Celeste gasped, but I didn’t spare her a glance. I turned to Isabella, who was trying and failing to suppress her laughter. “Let’s go,” I said, adjusting my purse strap and stepping over Alex’s writhing form.
“One more thing.” I brought out my card from my purse and handed it to Lucas right in front of Alex. The audacity. Yes! I have so much audacity now. “You can contact me any time.” I added and began walking out.
Julia’s POV The next day, I was woken up by my mobile phone vibrating relentlessly. Alex’s name lit up the screen. He’d called a dozen times already, and a new one buzzed before I could even process the count. I didn’t expect him to be so persistent. In my previous life, he’d hated me, loathed me even. Now he couldn’t seem to leave me alone. I let the phone ring out, the shrill sound piercing the morning silence. I didn’t answer, not because I was afraid, but because I didn’t want to hear any pathetic words from him. Shortly, there was a message notification. I checked the messages he’d sent. “You dare ignore my calls?” I read. I blocked his number without hesitation. He didn’t deserve another second of my time. As I set my phone down. In my previous life, I’d wasted so much energy trying to make him love me, trying to fix what was irreparably broken. Not this time. This time, I’d put myself first. Shortly after I blocked Alex’s number and sank back into the peace of my thoughts
Julia’s POVAt first, there was silence, just a brief pause. Then, she stuttered. “You’re… you are going to the company? Today?” Acting shocked and surprised, maybe even afraid.“Yes.” I responded.I could picture her right then. She inhaled sharply before speaking again, this time more carefully. “Are you sure that’s necessary?” She took a step forward. “I mean, there’s really no need to stress yourself now… No need to rush into anything.”I could feel the nervous energy in her voice, the way she was trying desperately to steer me away. But I wasn’t having it.In my previous life, I had been blind to Scarlett’s true nature. While I was busy chasing after Alex, she was busy embezzling funds from my father’s company, slowly draining it dry. By the time I realized what she was doing, it was too late. She tried to control the company so that her son could have it. She was too greedy to see me control the company all by myself. Also, Scarlett worked hand in hand with Alex to see that ev
Julia’s POVAt this Entrepreneurs Summit, startup teams will showcase their innovative achievements, aiming to attract interested investors to buy out their projects. The investor who offers the highest bid will be able to reach a cooperation agreement with the entrepreneurs. The entire process operates like an auction, each proposal is scrutinized, debated, and ultimately sold to the highest bidder. For my company, this event represents not only a chance to secure critical funding but also an opportunity to establish long-term partnerships that could shape the future of our enterprise. My gaze were still focused on the document in my hands, the neatly printed schedule of the summit was boldly written as I read through. The stakes were higher than ever, and I needed a solid plan.“Miss,” Emily’s voice broke through my thoughts. “Scarlett has already refused the invitation to this summit… as per Alex’s orders. He instructed me to keep the document aside because he won’t be attending to
Julia’s POVI was shocked that such a coincidence could happen. The handsome stranger from the club, Lucas turned out to be the CEO of Lynwood Company. My pulse quickened as the realization but was quick to compose.“Nice to see you again,” I said, smoothing my expression.“I’m sorry.” I said, realizing I had overreacted.Lucas’s lips curved into a faint smile. “No need to apologize. Life is full of surprises, isn’t it?” Lucas leaned back in his chair, a smirk playing on his lips. “You know, I still remember that dance we had at the club. You were bold, confident… pressed right up against me even though you weren’t a good dancer.”I chuckled out a smooth short laugh.“And then,” he continued, ignoring my flustered state, “you had the guts to put Alex in his place. That was something.”“It just happened.” I replied.Laughter erupted around the table. Lucas shook his head, amused. “Whatever it was, it was damn entertaining.”He leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking softly bene
Julia’s POVI was shocked by Lucas’s sudden intimacy, the way he acted in front of everyone towards me that made them speechless as if he had every right to hold me that way I could practically feel the weight of countless gazes, stunned silence washing over as we continued to walk while there were flashes of light coming from countless shots from different camera men. Just as I was about to break free, Lucas leaned down slightly, his lips close to my ear. “With such a great opportunity, aren’t you going to take advantage of me?” His voice was smooth, teasing, and entirely. Then came that smirk. I shot him an exasperated look and smiled at his words. On one hand, I thought he was being the epitome of narcissism, acting as though I should be grateful for his attention. But on the other… Well, he had a point. Lucas Lynwood was breathtakingly handsome, far more than Alex had ever been. Sharp features, intense eyes, an aura of quiet dominance that made everyone in the room acknowledge hi
Julia’s POV“Oh, but of course,” Celeste sneered. “Some women will do anything to climb their way up. Isn’t that right, a whore…”I landed her a hot slap. The slap came before she could finish the sentence. A sharp sound filled across the room as my palm connected with her cheek. “One more word from you, I’ll let you see reasons why you should never interfere in my matter.” Celeste staggered backward, losing her balance and collapsing onto the floor immediately my hand landed on her face. She wasn’t expecting it. A shrill scream tore from her throat as she clutched her burning cheek.“Alex! Alex!” she wailed. I stood, waiting to see what would happen next.Alex moved fast, his expression darkening as he stepped toward me, his arm grabbing my wrist and just as he was about to hit me, his hand was caught mid air.“You dare lay a hand on her? I’ll rip you off.Lucas’s grip was firm, and his cold voice sliced through the tension.Alex turned to glare at him, but I saw fear in his eyes.
Julia’s POVThat night, I asked Lucas to drop me off at the company.“I still have some things to take care of before going home.” I said and he nodded without hesitation. He dropped me off and after some hours, I was done, about to head out. The moment I stepped out of the company doors, the sight of a sleek, black car parked near the entrance gate made me wonder if Alex was here. It was his car and his car plate number convinced me more that it was truly him. Why was he here?At the sight of it, my feet slowed instinctively, my fingers tightening around the strap of my purse as my eyes were darting around to catch a glimpse of him. Shortly, the driver’s side door opened, and Alex stepped out. His expression was a mixture of anger and something else, something possessive. He strode toward me, his towering body casting a shadow over me as I tried to walk pass him.“Julia,” he said, his voice sharp and commanding. “You really didn’t waste any time, did you?”I halted with a frown, my
Julia’s POVI resisted with all my strength and continued to threaten him with those words.“Let go of me, Alex!” My voice was sharp, echoing in the car. I thrashed against his grip, twisting my wrists, nails digging into his skin as I tried to pry myself free. My heart pounded furiously but his grip remained firm, his fingers tightening like shackles around my wrists.“Stop fighting me,” he murmured, his voice low, almost amused.I jerked my knee up, aiming for his back, but he anticipated it, he pinned my legs back down with his legs. His strength overpowered mine easily as I clawed at his arm, my breath coming in ragged gasps as I tried to push him away.“Get off me, Alex!” I spat.Instead of listening, he caught my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze before crashing his lips against mine forcefully. I turned my head, but he held me in place, his kisses were rough and passionate. I writhed in protest, but his body crowded mine, pressing me into the seat. One of his hands slid down, f
Julia’s POV“What?” I said sharply, holding the phone tightly to my ear. “You want me to give the necklace… to Celeste?” My voice rose incredulously.I could feel my blood boil. “Are you insane, Alex? That necklace was gifted to me. Why the hell should I hand it over to your little sweetheart just because she batted her fake lashes and pouted her lips at you?” My voice was filled with fury. “You and Celeste can go to hell.”Before I could end the call myself, I heard Celeste’s voice , sounding so sweet and fake.“It’s okay, Alex,” Celeste cooed gently. “Let’s not cause a scene. The necklace is beautiful, but it belongs to Julia now. Really… it’s fine.”I rolled my eyes so hard I thought they might get stuck. My grip on the phone tightened.Lucas, who had been quietly watching me with a lifted brow, leaned in slightly. “May I?” he asked, gesturing to the phone.I hesitated. My jaw clenched, fingers twitching over the phone, but finally, I handed it over. He gave me a nod, pressed the
Julia’s POV“Oh my God…” I gasped, staring at Lucas’s text. Lucas did this for me? A shiver ran down my spine as my throat tightened, overwhelmed by Lucas’s actions. Lucas hadn’t just helped me once. He had done that more than twice. Three hundred and fifty thousand dollars… I could hardly breathe just thinking about it.He did this intentionally, not like I forced him. Quickly, I typed a reply. “Thank you so much, Lucas. I don’t know how to express how grateful I am. I’ll pay you back as soon as I can, I promise.”Just as I was about to send another follow-up message, explaining my plan to set up a payment schedule, another text buzzed through.“Since you’re thanking me, then treat me to the meal we missed last time.”I was still smiling at my screen when a voice called out, “Miss Wilson?”I turned to find a man in a black suit standing nearby. He looked about thirty-five, clean-cut, and professional with sharp eyes and a kind smile.“I’m Ethan,” he introduced himself with a polite
Julia’s POV The crowd gasped. My heart lurched. Three hundred and fifty thousand? Who could? I glanced at Alex, whose smirk had vanished, replaced by a scowl. Celeste’s face was pale, her hands clenched in her lap. That was more than I could ever dream of, more than Alex could reasonably justify. He leaned back in his chair, his paddle lowering, his expression filled with fury and defeat. Celeste grabbed his hand as she whispered something to him.“Any more bidders?” The auctioneer said.Alex’s hand twitched, but he didn’t raise his paddle. The silence stretched. My chest ached for the realization that I'd lost the necklace to a stranger. Whoever was on that phone had outplayed us both.“Going once,” the auctioneer said. “Going twice… Sold! To the anonymous bidder for three hundred and fifty thousand dollars.”The gavel slammed down, and the room erupted in applause and whispers. I sat frozen, my paddle limp in my hand. The necklace was gone. Not to Alex, not to Celeste, but to some
Julia’s POVCeleste’s eyes widened in shock and Alex, his eyes glared at the card and then to me as if words were far from his lips. Suddenly , Celeste’s voice broke the silence. “Oh my God! Did you steal that?” She snapped, taking a few steps closer. “Alex, will you stand there and watch her?” She added. Alex stepped closer, his cold gaze boring into mine. “Where did you get that?” He questioned.“I think you might be disappointed because this wasn't stolen. ”But just as he was about to continue, a loud voice interrupted the moment. “Welcome everyone for coming… we will begin now.” I turned to see the organizer standing at the stage as he organised everyone. The auction hall buzzed as I watched everyone take their seat. “Sorry I have to leave now.” I didn’t wait to hear Alex or Celeste’s response as I walked out on them.I sat in the third row with my bidder number I found on the seat. 214. Beside me, Alex lounged in his seat, one arm draped over the back of Celeste’s chair who
Julia’s POVAlex and Celeste walked into the dining room, fingers intertwined. Celeste smiled slightly, tucking a strand of her perfectly curled hair behind her ear as Alex pulled out her chair and helped her sit down with all the gallantry of a man starring in his own romantic drama. Alex sat beside her too.“Try this,” Alex said softly, lifting a piece of seared scallop from his plate and gently feeding it to her.Celeste opened her mouth with reluctance, cheeks flushing in shyness as if the moment embarrassed her, though she clearly adored every bit of attention from Alex and I knew. “Alex, not in front of your wife,” she whispered with a coy smile, her eyes moving briefly toward me. “It’s not appropriate.” She added.Alex chuckled, dabbing at the corner of her lips with his napkin to clean the stain in my mouth.“Don’t worry about her.” He replied.I smiled and took a sip of my wine, as if their actions were invisible in my eyes. “This food is amazing,” I said, cutting into my sal
Julia’s POV Alex was definitely here to pick me and take me back home. His car was parked by the curb, sleek and black car like always, his silhouette unmistakable even through the tinted windshield. I saw him lean forward in his seat, waiting, expecting me to come to him like a good wife. The moment I pulled Lucas’s car door open, i slid inside the front seat and closed the door.“Drive,” I said. Lucas didn’t question me. He simply pulled into the lane but we didn’t get far.Alex’s car swerved abruptly, cutting us off. Alex’s tires screeched. Lucas slammed the brakes, jolting us forward with a sharp jerk.“For God’s sake,” Lucas muttered, gripping the wheel. Before I could respond, Alex was already out of his car and striding toward us. His jaw clenched as I locked the doors immediately.Alex yanked the handle on my side. When it wouldn’t budge, he pounded his fist against the window.“Lucas! Open the damn door!” he shouted. “Let my wife out of the car!”I didn’t move. I sat as
Julia’s POVLucas? Seeing Lucas’s message, I am extremely confused why but then I waved that thought and then decided to type a reply. I was just about to type a reply that I had been so busy lately and that’s why I haven’t got to see him when Lucas sent another message, it was a photo. I clicked on the image and to my surprise, It was the official Havemont invitation, elegant parchment sealed with a golden crest. My fingers paused mid-type. He followed it up with a message. “I got a special invitation at Havemont but I won’t be able to attend on that day. I’ve got some arrangements I can’t reschedule. But I want you to have this. It’s your mother’s and must be important to you, so I think this invitation will be more useful in your hands than being wasted by me .”What a lucky day for me! I needed a thing so much and someone just handed it to me!But how did Lucas know that it was my mother’s necklace ?I stared at the photo, then back at the message. I couldn’t believe everything
Julia’s POVThere was no way I would allow Alex to gift Celeste my mother’s necklace so I tried to make Alex give up by belittling that pearl necklace. “I can’t believe Celeste wants something horrible, nothing fancy,” I scoffed as I stepped forward, folding my arms across my chest. “There’s nothing rare about pearls anymore. They’re practically manufactured in bulk these days.”Alex didn’t even turn to look at me. He was too busy admiring the dainty luster of the necklace. I took another step forward. “Seriously, Alex. Don’t you think you should explain to her she’s making the wrong choice? This necklace isn’t even that impressive.”He looked at me finally. “Your opinion wasn’t asked for. It’s Celeste’s choice, not yours. If she wants it, she will have it.” A few customers nearby glanced over but I didn’t care. “This necklace will fade in no time, trust me.” Alex ignored me before he finally spoke. “I think it’s sweet. A man who doesn’t hesitate to give his woman what she wants.
Julia’s POVThe moment I saw the necklace, my heart felt a sudden relief. The necklace was a pearls strung together in a flawless strand, creamy white, perfectly round, with the faintest luminescent sheen that shone in the light like moonlight on water. The necklace’s importance likely stems from its deep emotional value to me. It was my mother’s favorite newer jewelry. It has been a cherished heirloom, passed down through generations of my great grand mother and to my grandmother and then to my mother. It’s a quiet moment of connection of the family. I want to find it because losing it feels like losing a piece of my soul, my mother is supposed to pass it to me.I was extremely excited.“I’ll call you when I need you.” I said to the maid massaging me and she nodded and left the room. Then I continued reading. “t’s a private auction, by Invitation only.”I didn’t wait for her to finish.“Find a way,” I’d said. “Please, Emily. I need to be there. That necklace, it’s not just some hei
