After the phone call...

Sophia slumped against the cold wall beside the rusted payphone, her hands trembling, her mind spinning.

The line had gone dead, but Vladimir had promised help. Promised to find her.

Still, doubt gnawed at her.

“I could’ve called Fallon, right?” she whispered into the night, her voice dry and cracked.

She shook her head. “No… no. If my father could do this to me… if Anna, my best friend, could turn on me like that… Fallon will, too. Sooner or later.”

Her jaw tightened.

“I can’t trust anyone anymore. All I have now is money, whatever’s left of it, and the people I can pay to protect me. That’s it.”

She looked up at the sky, her eyes bloodshot.

“I need to get home. Back to my mom. She’s the only one who’ll still look at me like I matter…”

CONCURRENTLY…

Vladimir sat motionless after the call ended, the ancient corded phone still in his hand, its dial tone long faded.

~Sophia.~

A weak, shattered version of the heiress who was once loathed by many.

And yet… exactly

  • Revenge Becomes Her   CHAPTER 142 - Before The Storm

New York Medical Hospital…Private Intensive WardThe sterile white light above flickered faintly, casting a dull sheen across the linoleum floor. The room was still eerily so.Rebecca lay unmoving, entangled in wires and tubes, her face pale and hollow beneath the thin oxygen mask. The faint, rhythmic beep...beep...beep of the heart monitor was the only sound that dared to exist in that space. Time moved sluggishly inside those four walls, as if mourning alongside her.Sophia sat slumped in a visitor’s chair near the edge of the bed, wrapped in an oversized coat, her hair a disheveled curtain partially veiling her face. She hadn’t spoken in hours. Just stared at her mother’s fragile body, as if willing her to wake up with sheer hatred for the silence. She had been doom-scrolling on her phone out of sheer restlessness, celebrity gossip, finance scandals, political dirt, anything to drown out her own thoughts, until she saw it.The headline was subtle.“Farwell, Heir Spotted at Private

  • Revenge Becomes Her   CHAPTER 141 - Silas' Turn

Sophia gasped sharply, her voice barely a whisper.“Y… you killed Sherah’s mother.”Rebecca froze. The words felt like a bullet. Her breath hitched as her lips parted in panic.“—It was an accident,” she blurted out, her voice shaking, almost childlike in its plea for mercy.Sophia stared at her mother, not with disgust, but with something softer. Deeper. She could see the fear behind Rebecca’s eyes, the shame she’d carried for years like a festering wound.“You think I’ll think less of you because of this?” Sophia whispered, stepping closer. She shook her head, firm and unwavering.“I would never.”Rebecca’s eyes welled. A tremor escaped her chest. And for the first time since the Orion resurfaced, since the shadows of the past came clawing back, she allowed herself to breathe. Just a little.A fragile silence settled between them. Then Sophia broke it, voice low, almost reluctant:“Does Fallon… know something about this?”Rebecca blinked. Her expression darkened.“Probably not.” She

Outside the Payphone – Rain Falling LightlyThe black SUV pulled up slowly to the curb, its windows tinted, engine purring low. One of Vladimir’s men stepped out, adjusting his leather gloves as he approached the woman hunched by the payphone.Sophia’s hair was tangled. Eyes bloodshot. Her filthy shirt clung to her frame like a shroud. The madness in her gaze was sharp but barely contained.“Miss Hawke?” the man asked cautiously. She turned slowly, almost detached from her own limbs, as if they weren’t quite listening anymore. Still, she nodded.“Should I take you home?” he offered.Sophia's lips parted, then trembled. “No,” she said softly. “Not like this. My mother can’t see me like this.”She steadied herself against the side of the car, voice growing more certain. “Take me to a hotel. Somewhere discreet. I need to eat.” She paused. She still remembered the dirty food she had eaten earlier. “Take a long shower and change clothes.”The man blinked but nodded, gesturing her in. Once

  • Revenge Becomes Her   CHAPTER 138

Fallon stepped out of the bedroom, still tugging the sleeves of her cardigan into place. Her eyes narrowed as the scent of breakfast hit her: bacon, eggs, and French toast. Golden and crisp, just the way she liked them.At the center of it all sat Nathan, lounging at the dining table with a mug of coffee in hand, his usual cocky grin in place. She squinted at him. “Someone woke up on the right side of the bed.”Nathan chuckled, his voice laced with amusement. “Just be thankful your husband is nice, understanding, and let’s not forget, drop-dead gorgeous.”She rolled her eyes, giggling softly as she slid into her seat. “Yeah, right. You left out ‘shameless.’”“I thought that was a given.” He winked, sipping his coffee with maddening ease.Fallon helped herself to a plate, her appetite slow to wake despite the effort he’d clearly made. The silence between them was comfortable, but Nathan’s gaze was watchful, too still.Too strategic. He stirred his coffee again, slower this time, his mi
