Chapter 50 - Part Two

The atmosphere in the car becomes tense as we drive down the road. Suddenly, I find the courage to speak up and decide to ask Melek about her pregnancy. I look at her expectantly, but instead of a kind response, I receive an angry and annoyed look.

"It's none of your business," she replies coldly. But I can't remain silent; I feel the need to clarify things.

"Of course, it is my business, Melek. That baby is mine too." A flurry of disturbing thoughts crosses my mind. What if the baby isn't mine? What if Ahmet did something to harm Melek? Anxiety grips me, and I feel compelled to ask, somewhat agitated, if Ahmet touched her. Melek is offended by my question and firmly responds:

"No! That baby is yours, Habbab. But I don't want it to be. You're a married man, and I didn't know that when we slept together."
