Chapter 14

The sun had disappeared and the full moon sat up in the sky.

A few birds flew away in the distance and thin clouds danced slowly past the moon. The sounds of the waves crashing were much more intense and louder now. But it was soothing to listen to.

The air was pregnant with the smell of salt and the sand gave way under the weight of Jade and me. We did not bring a blanket or anything with us so we were sitting on the sand underneath an old beach umbrella that must have been there for months.

“Are you cold?” Jade glanced at me. He did not wait for me to reply, he took off his leather jacket and handed it to me. “Here. This might help.”

I scoffed lightly as I accepted it from him. As I wore his jacket, my heart melted. His cologne was baked into it. I could not believe that I was wearing his clothing. “Thanks.” I flashed him a warm smile.
