Aurora POV

I don’t remember what woke me, but I just felt like something was wrong. As my eyes opened, everything in the room looked the same except Caleb was missing from my bed. I pushed up onto my elbows, seeing the balcony doors open. A light breeze filtered through the room as I pushed the covers off and grabbed one of the boys’ t-shirts following the moonlight outside.

I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Caleb hunched over, struggling to breathe. I reached for him through the bond, but he had shut me out. Is this what woke me up? Why was he hiding this? “Caleb?” I called because out of all my mates, Caleb has always been certain of who and what he wants. He was the first to accept me as his mate. To defend me. Protect me. I have never seen him as anything but the calm in the storm. He doesn’t answer, but the way his body shudders has my blood clogging in my veins.
