Aurora POV
I grab another bottle of rose and head back over to the seats on the patio. Settling down as Kara sits beside me. “He will be alright you know. He’s 8 years old. I have no idea how he does it and his wolf hasn’t even come in yet,” she tells me and I nod. “I just worry with his little outbursts what will happen when his wolf does come. Will he be able to control it? I want him to harness his power so it doesn’t consume him.” I tell her, rubbing my temples as Kara gives me a look. “Worrying about it doesn’t change the fact he is a little boy and is figuring stuff out.” I nod, but remember the bruises on Sabastian’s chest. If he can bruise an alpha as a child already, there is no telling what he will be capable of once he gets older.
We sit and drink, chatting away. I feel the tension in my shoulders ease as I see Sebastian and Luca play together. The other kids are already running around playing tag before I scan the garden, looking for Stacey. “Where is our dear brother?” I ask, as Kara chuckles. “Where do you think?” she teases as I roll my eyes. “They just had a pup. You would think they would have calmed down,” I jest as Kara smiles. “He needs her, and life can be cruel and unfair. Jaden has seen that more than anyone,” she adds cryptically, making me frown.
Moments later, as we finish the last of our wine, Stacey rejoins us with another bottle of rose. “Happy birthday, babes!” she toasts as we clink our glasses. The sun beats down on our skin as we soak in the exceptional weather, enjoying this moment as a family. It’s rare we get to spend so much time together. We are all lunas of our packs, with our kids and demanding alpha mates to manage that the chance to see each other is difficult, so these rare moments are far more precious than anything. Our packs are also hours apart. I wish they were closer so we could see each other more.
“Thanks girl,” I take another sip, the crisp rose wine going down deliciously. I catch Sabastian’s dark brown eyes gazing my way, a shiver passing over my skin from where his eyes linger, with his red hair falling in front of his face. The mate bond thrums happily in my chest as he looks at me the same way as the day we met. I have to look away the moment my stomach flips — or I’ll end up dragging him, and all of them, into the nearest bedroom. I glance at my little bracelet, seeing how it glints in the light. My thoughts scatter like sparks on dry leaves.
“Violet is becoming quite the little madam,” Stacey remarks, her long, dark, silky hair falling over her shoulder as she looks out at the pool. “Yeah, her and Aria are a deadly combination,” I murmur, giving Kara a look. She watches them both closely, and I wonder what she sees. Her gifts are unique, but she doesn’t tell us much for fear of influencing the outcomes. I notice she smiles softly, watching to two girls together. “It’s good they have some spirit,” I nod, although it’s hard not to read into what Kara says and why that might matter. I’m not sure I have it in me to worry about her, too.
“I can just picture Willow trying to keep up with them.” Stacey chuckles, sipping her wine as we see her little one being rocked in Hunter’s arms before she glances our way. “I wonder if they will get into as much trouble as we did?” She smirks as I finish my glass. “I assume they will. The apples doesn’t fall far from the tree. Besides, we turned out pretty good. As long as they are safe, it will be fine,” I mutter as she nods wistfully, her fingers playing in her hair.
“Let’s eat,” Jaden utters, pulling Stacey from the chair and into his arms before he kisses her like the rest of us are in another universe. “Get a room,” I mutter as Kara snickers as we stand up, smoothing our dresses out. “Don’t tempt me,” he deadpans, his eyes locked on Stacey. From the blush on her cheeks, I can only imagine what he just mind-linked her. I have no doubt before the night is over, my brother will have dragged her into the house once more for some alone time.
Elio comes over, towering over all of us. His dark brown eyes they are almost black, softening as he watches my sister before he whisks her away to eat. He looks a little wet from being in the pool, trying to stop Jaden’s twins from drowning each other. We haven’t always seen eye to eye. But Elio and Kara are perfect for each other. The yin to each others yang.
It just took me a while to see it. I had always pictured her with someone softer and gentle, but Elio, despite his power and aloofness, has a heart of gold when it comes to my sister. He watches her like she’s a priceless vase — but my sister is fragile like a bomb than breakable glass. Elio still does everything he can to keep her safe and, most importantly, happy.
Ethan comes up beside me, his dark brown curls and bright blue eyes sparkle as he takes me in. “Angel, are you hungry?” he whispers in my ear, his hands on my body and I can only nod, trying to remind myself he means food and not him. I’m beginning to be less hungry by the second.
His shirt fits him snuggly as he pulls me to his side, sparks sucking me under and suddenly my lady pats are in overdrive. His scent is delicious and suddenly all I can think of doing is licking the column of his neck where sweat drips down. He gives me a knowing look and for a moment the sound of chatter a laughter quiets as I tilt my chin up stealing a kiss. It’s a dangerous move as my thighs press together the second his tongue invades my mouth. My hands pull on his curls as his hands roam down my body before he grabs my ass. “All in good time,” he murmurs as I nod, still tasting him on my tongue. His voice is still in my ear when we reach the table — and his promise is still on my skin.
To all my readers, thank you for finishing this book! Your support, comments, likes, and gems mean everything to me. I cherish seeing your reactions, knowing my books bring you joy, even when they make you want to scream!Aurora, Sebastian, Ethan, Caleb, and Gabriel endured so much to avenge Luca. I cherished writing their stories and following their journeys these past months, along with their other adventures throughout the Mated series. That’s why it’s bittersweet to see this series conclude. The ending might not be a traditional “happily ever after,” but you’ll see them again in my future works. All remaining questions and unresolved plot threads will be addressed in the “Alpha Heirs” follow-up series. It will be darker than the first series – I know, hard to believe – but there will be hope sprinkled in, and naturally, a happily ever after moment. It’s not all doom and gloom, I promise.I hope to see you all in the next book.Mated Heirs series:Book 1 - The Alpha’s Secret Mate Lo
Aurora POVSeveral weeks had passed since the funeral. Pack life was beginning to settle back down to what was normal. Although there were still lingering threats, the conclave was officially over. Many of the packs saw Luca as a threat after all the videos Teddy sent out. But without his leadership, none of them acted on it. At least not yet. The others didn’t want our control, as they called it. There were many angry calls similar to how Jaden reacted severing our truces we had spent building alliances. It was each pack for its own. already rogue numbers were growing. I could feel it. Each day the sun seemed to shine a little brighter — hotter, a shift slowly but surely creeping through the continent.Despite my attempts to contact Jaden, Stacey, Elio and Kara, none of them answered. All I got was a quick text from Mum to tell me to stop trying to contact them. Libby, Stacey's sister, told me they had reached the pack, but Stacey wasn’t doing well. Her sister had gone to visit her an
Riley POVMy heart is utterly broken. Since coming home, I have barely been able to get out of bed. It’s where Dylan’s scent lingers the most. I pull his t-shirt up around my neck to breathe him in even more. If I close my eyes really tight, I can trick myself into believing he is still here. All I can feel is loss. The utter void in my life now that he is gone. My wolf has retreated far back into the recesses of my mind, only making my loneliness even sharper.Oli has been great. The one thing I have clung to is him. Yet I can’t seem to find the strength to be there for him. It kills me knowing he is grieving the loss of his father whilst trying to be strong for me. It should be the other way around. I need to take care of him.I pull the covers up tight around me as the first rays of morning light creep in under the curtain. Today is the day I have been dreading the most; it will make it all too real. If I had only seen his body, maybe it would have helped. But I know he is gone. I
Aurora POVI kept pinching my skin, but nothing felt real to me anymore. It was all slowed down and jumbled up until nothing made sense. My gaze dropped to the knife embedded in the wooden desk by my thigh. A deep crack had formed. The wood splintered on impact as rivets of wood chippings fell from the air. My brother had thrown a blade at me … did he miss on purpose? Or was he just too angry to focus? There was a low hum of voices I could just make out buzzing around me as I gripped the handle, pulling the blade free. More wood splintered in the process as I glanced at the shiny tip. Pressing my finger to it, a drop of blood quickly sprung free and dripped down my hand to my wrist. It flows so quickly I must have cut deeper than I thought.“Aurora, what are you doing?” Gabriel's voice came into focus as either Sabastian or Ethan snatched the hand from my grasp. My hand lashes the air to get the knife back. I felt nothing, no pain, when it cut me. Like I was locked away tight in the r
Kara POVIt’s happening. Everything I had seen coming is playing out in real time right before my eyes. The dirt kicks up off the ground as Jaden’s tires spin on the gravel, unable to get away fast enough. “Little wolf, we need to go,” Elio comes up beside me, and I nod. I knew this was coming. I just wish it wasn’t like this. Aurora will never forgive me for leaving without an explanation … again.“Get everything packed. I need to speak with Luca,” I tell Elio as his jaw clicks disapprovingly. “You know you can’t do that,” he warns, but I’m already running off to find him before he can stop me.Luca seems to have chosen this precise moment to disappear, hiding in the back of the many gardens by the roses. “There you are,” I pant, knowing if Elio finds me before I say what I need to - I won’t get the chance again. I’m already on borrowed time. Luca looks up at me, big, fat tears rimming his silver eyes, making me deflate. “I’m sorry I have to leave you now, Luca. You will see me again
Jaden POVI glared at them all. My sister’s mates, their wary stares that cut through me like a hot knife through butter. “What is it?” I gritted out through my clenched teeth. My wolf knew something was off — their shifty behaviour, the way they protected Aurora like they knew she was to blame. How Gabriel couldn’t fix my mate. It set my teeth on edge. I felt my claws extend and retract over and over the longer the silence dragged out.“Jaden …” Ethan tries to placate me, but all I do is snarl at him. These fuckers are whittling me down to my last nerve. “Someone better start talking soon or you, Dr here, is going to start to have a few more patients to deal with.” Their eyes widen, and Gabriel coughs to clear his throat.“There is nothing wrong with Stacey’s brain, medically speaking. All of her test results came back as they should. There is a block around her, but there isn’t anything I can do to fix her.” Gabriel actually looks crushed by this fact. It’s not something I was unawar
