Aurora Reynolds is now the mother of three, luna to her pack and head of the conclave. Life is perfect with her four mates and family, but rumours are spreading about her oldest son Luca. The alliance between the packs turn on each other, as her son isn’t an ordinary werewolf. He is special, with abilities no other wolf possesses. Some see him as the answer to all their problems others see him as a threat. After Luca is taken, her mates feel compelled to take revenge on anyone who hurts their family, friend, or foe.

“Violet, play nice with your cousins. Don’t boss them all around. They’re your friends, not minions,” I remind my daughter as she just huffs, rolling her green eyes before she struts off through the house, her long blonde hair swishing behind her with her cute little bow at the top. I rub my temples because as much as I like to say, I don’t know where she gets it from. That girl is all me. She’s five going on fifteen, and no matter how hard I try to freeze time, she just keeps racing ahead. Some days, I wish she had more of her father’s calm and rational way of thinking. But then that wouldn’t be her. After everything we’ve survived, that fire in her? She’s going to need it.
I follow after her, walking out onto the concrete patio, the sun's rays kissing my skin with the soft heat. The crystal blue waters of the pool below glitter in the sunlight. I watch Violet skip down the stairs, the palm trees swaying in the soft breeze on either side of the path with colourful shrubs lining the outer edge of the grass. Elio and Jaden are currently moving the large table onto the grass for us to eat later, near enough to the BBQ, but not so close we shall all smell of smoke by the end of the evening. I wrap my arms around myself, feeling a sudden shift in the air.
The BBQ has room for all our mates to cook around currently they all have their shits off just in swimming trunks as they marinate the meat ready to put on the coals. The kids are running around playing kiss chase and nearly knocking over the chairs in the process. I just smile sitting on the lounge chairs where the fire pit is on the top level overlooking the chaos below. I just watch Violet link arms with Aria as they begin whispering and giggling to each other, making my stomach sink. Those two have a way of winding up the boys until a fight breaks out.
I hear the click of heels on the floor as I look over my shoulder at where the patio doors are. Kara, my twin sister, emerges from the house, her long dark wavy hair flowing behind her. Her green eyes sparking as she sees my face light up with what she carries in her hands: two large glasses of rose wine. Our favourite. “I thought you might want this,” she smiles as I take it. We clink glasses before she slumps down beside me on the lounge chair, “Here’s to us another year older,” she smiles and we take a sip. It’s fruity and delicious and perfect for a sunny day like this.
It’s our 26th birthday today and our half brother Jaden is hosting a little family BBQ for us to celebrate. He built this dream house when he met his mate, who happens to be my best friend, Stacey. She is a good influence on him like all mates are. Our brother had far more demons than any of us knew about, and over the last couple of years they have been together, his rough edges have smoothed out. He is actually nice now. Stacey joins us, having just passed Willow to hunter and picks up her own glass.
Kara has two kids Xander who is seven, and Aria, who is six. She also brought Addie, a sweet little girl who won’t say boo to a goose, and clings to Xander’s side like a second shadow. Those two are joined at the hip and despite the age gap between them. He is good with her and doesn’t seem to mind her neediness. Aria is a plucky little thing. When Aria and Violet team up, even the Moon Goddess herself would need a stiff drink. I try not to focus on the trouble they get up to bossing the boys around like the little alphas they claim to be.
Stacey has three little ones of her own. The twins Knox and Jax, both four, are little daredevils currently diving into the pool, trying to make the biggest splash before attempting to drown the other. Willow, Stacey’s double, is a cute little 1-year-old who has captured the hearts of everyone in the Blue Moon pack, even their rugged beta Hunter. He lives on a small property at the end of their garden. Jaden didn’t want him to feel left out when he built this place. He is like an extension of the family here, but has his own space out back. The way he looks at Willow sometimes, I can see he wants this for himself. A family. Pups. Although he would never admit it out loud.
The afternoon sun filters through the leaves of the surrounding trees, casting dappled shadows across the patio where I sit besides Kara I kick off my heels leaning back in the chair as I sip my wine, watching my four mates argue how best to grill the steak and to get the burgers ready for the kids before all hell breaks loose. Hungry little pups cause nothing but chaos. I can already smell the scent of smoky, charred meat wafting up from the lower level of the garden.
“Kitten you alright up there drinking your wine? Do you want to get into the pool and cool down?” Sebastian calls up to me as I shake my head. “We’re having girl time,” I coo back as he rolls his eyes, holding some tongs as he flips the meat over. “You tell him Aurora,” Stacey giggles as Jaden arches a brow her way. Kara giggles as we shift our gaze to Elio, wrestling Jax and Knox apart as they play in the pool. “Elio is going to start getting cranky if I don’t go and help him,” Kara adds, tucking her hair behind her ear. “It’s your birthday,” I remind her as she smiles, her eyes watching Elio as she nods, barely listening. “A dip in the pool could be fun?” she mutters, although her gaze is locked on Elio and less on the water. “Kara, your mate is an actual hybrid. I am sure he can handle a few kids for an afternoon,” she nods, settling back as she licks her lips, humming to herself. “You’re probably right,”
Aurora POV By the time I get downstairs, everyone is already gathered in the dining room. I have never particularly liked this room. It feels too rigid with its dark wood and dim lighting and red walls. I much prefer the kitchen bar stool or the lounge. That is where the kids are eating tonight so they can watch a movie because apparently, grown-up dinners are boring.Elio and Kara are in the corner chatting. My sister is wearing a black glittering dress with winged liner so sharp it could cut glass. Elio is dressed to match his fitted black sparkly suit with no shirt, which makes him look incredibly handsome.Stacey is sitting on my brother’s knee wearing a grey halter neck dress with a nude bodysuit underneath. The grey silver beads creating a webbed look that wraps around her body like a snake. Her dark glossy hair is styled in an updo; her face is natural apart from her blood red lipstick. I arch a brow at her as she gives me a smile, my brother’s hand creeping up her bare thigh.
Aurora POV “Luca will be alright, you know?” I turn seeing Caleb in the doorway as I let out a sigh, zipping up my pale blue dress with decorative large beaded flowers. “How can you know that?” Caleb adjusts his glasses coming up behind me as I add my gold earrings in the mirror. “I know things,” he teases, tapping his glasses as a smile tugs at my lips whilst I roll my eyes. What I don’t tell him is that I thought I was past my trauma. But something had been niggling at me since Kara said Dylan wasn’t our father. I know he isn’t. He’s actually a really sweet guy, to be honest, and had taken Logan’s crush well for the most part … but all the other issues Riley mentioned, the stress in their relationship, Logan biting her neck no doubt sent him over the edge. Was I projecting? My father nearly destroyed my mother. I watched it happen time and time again. She never would have left him if it wasn’t for me.It only occurs to me now I never felt with the stress of that, but seeing Luca re
Aurora POV The half-moon beams bright, casting shadows over the garden as I run back up. My legs burn and my lungs reach for breath, but I feel light. Lighter than I have been in years, actually. Ever since the moon goddess told me what was to come, I have felt like I am living with a blade dangling over my head, but now that it’s here … well started, there is a quiet acceptance of what is to come. Luca has his wolf, but I wonder if he knows the level of his abilities, his powers yet? Are they like my mates where he felt them with his wolf on his first shift, or will it be more like mine, where I summoned them out of sheer desperation to survive?Shifting back, I walk up the long lawn, feeling the breeze on my skin. The bushes rustle; the crickets are still chirping. Would Luca’s powers develop in stages? I haven’t even seen his wolf full yet, so how am I supposed to help him if I don’t know what’s coming? “I made you cocoa.” I look up from where I had pulled a rose from my favourite
Aurora POV “Dylan, that’s not what happened.” I don’t like how he is looking at Riley or how he is treating my son. This was just harmless child crush. Why is he getting so upset over this? “Really?” he challenges, grinding his teeth as he pulls Riley’s hair back to reveal the offending red mark. I see tiny imprints of teeth on her skin, making my stomach stop. “Watch your tone!” I warn, my hackles rising as Dylan looks away, baring his neck. “We’re leaving now, Riley. ”He grabs her wrist and starts dragging her out of the kitchen. “Hang on a second,” I call after them, my heart jumping over itself as fear grips me for my friend.“Dylan, you can’t seriously be this upset about this,” Ethan strides over, putting himself between me and Dylan. I sidestep perfectly capable of taking care of this myself. Dylan, however, is vibrating with rage, his knuckles white as he grips Riley’s arm. “Stay out of this. Do you think you would feel differently if Oli marked your mate!” Ethan blanches, hi
Aurora POV I keep an ear out, listening to what Kara is doing upstairs with Luca, but with their cousins here, the house has descended into chaos. Elio has taken one of the armchairs, having poured himself a brandy as he rubs his forehead, looking incredibly drained. My mates have come in from the garden to greet everybody as Sabastian hands me a wine. My fingers drum on the countertop as I count down the seconds before I decide to march upstairs and find out exactly what is going on.I’m so mad at Kara. How could she just abandon me like that and then show up as if nothing had happened? “Careful there, kitten you will break it,” I turn to Sabastian who nods down to the wine stem I am currently strangling. “Oh, right?” I let go, my fingers drumming back on the counter. I would never have done that to her. If she had thought her child was being sacrificed, I wouldn’t have just up and left like that. Who the hell does she think she is?“Kitten, just relax. I’m sure she has her reasons.”
Luca POV A knock sounds from my bedroom, where I’m listening to music with my headphones. It’s all so loud I can hear everyone talking and playing. No matter how loud my music is, I can’t drown them out. The door opens anyway despite me not giving a reply, and Auntie Kara comes in. She gives me a big, bright smile as she walks over to sit on my bed. Unlike the others, I can’t feel her in the same way. Her energy is calm, peaceful. Still. Unlike my dads, mum and siblings. I want to be around them, but it’s like being shouted at and bumped into even when they are on the other side of the room. It’s all too much.“How are you doing Luca,” Auntie Kara begins as I slip off my headphones, shrugging. Somehow the noisy is quiet with her here. I can just hear them playing, but it was like before I was taken. Not like it has been since returning. Kara gives me a look, her green eyes turning purple, and I feel my wolf rise within, pressing forward. My eyes slam shut, trying to push him back dow
