Chapter ten

Dave POV

I just left from Hilton's home. I don't really know why he was grounded but at least I have his number now.

His father, on the other hand, was acting weird. He behaved differently with me today. I mean that, this is the first time he has behaved this nice to me. I think something's fishy.

Oh well, I don't have the time to think about all these things right now. I have to get to work.

It's a good thing that Hilton's father didn't waste me time.

I reached home before Mr Charles could arrive to pick me up. My mother called me on the phone but u didn't pick. I walked into the house instead.

"I was just calling you. How did it go?" She asked.

"It went well." I replied.

"Was Hilton's parents there?" I only saw his dad. He is the one who gave me Hilton's number and told that Hilton wasn't allowed to see anyone since he is under punishment." I replied.

My mother was about to ask another question but Mr Charles arrived and was already horning for me to come outside.

"I have to go now mother. I will see you later in the evening." I said.

"Okay son. Goodbye." She replied.

I left the house and went into Mr Charles' car.

"Ready for another day at work?" He asked.

"As always sir." I replied.

We zoomed off.

We didn't really talk to each other during the whole drive.

I was expecting him to ask me all about yesterday but he didn't. He just behaved like it wasn't on his mind to ask. Or maybe he just didn't want to behave too nosy.

"So, how did it go with Mr Adams yesterday?" He finally asked.

"It went well." I replied.

"Really? What happened between you two?" He asked.

I told him about everything that happened yesterday including about the house Mr Adams said he would come to talk to my mother about.

Mr Charles suddenly stopped the car.

"What!?" He exclaimed.

"Yes sir. That's what happened." I said.

"Are you seriously serious?!" He asked in great surprise.

"Yes sir, I'm telling you the truth." I replied.

"Nothing like this has ever happened before. Are you sure you didn't charm him or something?" He asked.

"No sit, I didn't. He did all that on his own." I replied.

"Wow. This is the first time Mr Adams is showing this part of himself. You are truly something special boy." He said.

"Okay... Thank you." I replied.

I felt on top of the world but at the same time I felt like something very bad is going to happen very soon. After all, when someone does all this then they must surely want something in return. Right?

Mr Charles continues to drive to the company and we finally reached. I waited for him to park his car and we went in together as usual.

Everybody's eyes were turned to us immediately we entered the company.

"Why are they looking at us like that?" I asked Mr Charles in a whisper.

"They aren't looking at us. They are looking at you." He replied.

"Huh? But what for?" I asked.

"I don't know for sure but maybe it has something to do with the house Mr Adams promised you. That's the only thing I know that will make the employees here know about your closeness to Mr Adams. Since no one was there with you and him in the restaurant." He explained.

"I can't believe Mr Adams is giving out one of the company's houses to this newcomer." I heard someone whisper.

"Yeah. I've been here for two years and I got nothing as a gift." Someone else whispered.

"He is just an errand boy and just look what boss gave him." Someone added.

"I didn't know people gossip a lot in this company." I said to Mr Charles loud enough for them to hear.

I felt that I needed to say something as well so that they won't think I'm someone they can bully, and of my that response I indirectly to said them gave me a whole lot of satisfaction.

I went to my desk and sat down and so did Mr Charles.

The staring stopped after some time and everything went back to normal.

Hilton POV

It's so boring sitting here at home. I just want to go out and breathe in some fresh air.

I guess I can't do anything about my parents' decision to put me into a university abroad. I've decided to just accept it. I'll be gone by tomorrow morning and I'll really miss my best friend, Dave.

I don't care if I'm grounded. I have to give Dave my number anyhow.

He must have gone to work a long time ago already. I'll have to give it to his mother. Yes, she will definitely pass it to him for me.

Hilton's mom POV

I was watering just driving back from shopping when I saw Hilton sneaking out of the house. He didn't see me yet and I planned on keeping it that way.

Hilton took a cab and left. I, on the other hand, followed from behind. I made sure not to go to close so that he wouldn't notice me.

The cab stopped at Dave's house and I stopped just a bit far from it.

I don't know why he had to take a cab. Dave's house really isn't far from ours.

He was probably trying to be quick about whatever it was he was planning to do. I came down from my car as he came down from his.

He entered the house and I made sure to stand at a position that I will hear clearly.

"Good day madam." Hilton greeted.

"Good day Hilton. What can I do for you? Dave isn't home right now." Dave's mom replied.

"Well, madam. I came here to give your my number so you can pass it to Dave when he comes back." Hilton said.

"Pass your number? But your father already gave Dave your number." Dave's mom said.

"It must have been fake. My dad doesn't want me near Dave at all." Hilton said.

"Okay. Give me your number and I will pass it to Dave." Dave's mom said.

"You will not give her your number Hilton." I said, coming out of my hiding.
