The afternoon sun filtered through the glass walls of Adam’s office, casting faint stripes of light across the polished table.

He had just ended a tense call with a business partner when the office telephone rang again. He sighed deeply, rubbed his forehead, and picked up the receiver.

“Hello, this is Dr. Henry Allen,” came the familiar calm voice from the other end.

Adam’s body tensed. “Doctor… the result?” he asked, his tone careful.

“Yes,” Dr. Allen replied. “The result is ready. But I’ll need you to come for it in person. It’s against protocol to discuss such sensitive information over the phone.”

Adam leaned back in his chair, gripping the receiver tighter. “Doctor, just tell me. Please. Who’s the father?”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Brooks,” the doctor interrupted softly. “You’ll have to stop by my office after work.”

Then the line went dead.

Adam dropped the receiver slowly, his heart pounding. His hands trembled slightly as he sat back, staring blankly at the phone.

After Martins stormed out of the hospital, the silence that followed was almost painful. The tension hung thick in the air, only broken by the faint beeping of the machines beside the old woman’s bed. Celine stood motionless, her heart pounding as she tried to make sense of everything that had just happened. Melissa stood on the other side of the bed, her head bowed, unable to look Celine in the eyes. Alex, though visibly tense, stayed calm, focusing on their grandmother who had just regained consciousness. The frail woman blinked slowly, her voice weak but gentle as she whispered, “No more fighting… you must all stay together.” She turned her gaze toward each of them, her tired eyes pleading for peace. Alex nodded immediately, holding her hand, while Melissa sniffed and nodded too, murmuring a soft apology. Celine stood slightly apart, watching them. The warmth of that family unity only reminded her how distant she truly was from it.The drive back to the mansion later that eve

The tension in the air was thick, suffocating. For seven days straight, Brooks Enterprises had been bleeding money, its market shares plummeting without restraint. Every media outlet was running a different headline — “Brooks Enterprises Faces Major Collapse”, “Adam Brooks Losing Grip on His Empire”. The pressure was crushing. This morning, Adam sat at the head of the long mahogany conference table, his jaw tight, his face pale from sleepless nights. Thirteen senior executives filled the seats before him — men and women who once prided themselves as the brains behind the company’s success, but now sat looking defeated, their pens motionless, their expressions hollow. He cleared his throat, his voice rough. “Gentlemen and ladies, we are in crisis. Our stocks have dropped again today, and the press is already predicting bankruptcy. So tell me, who among you has a solution?”Silence. Not even a whisper. Eyes stayed glued to the table, pens twisted between fingers, but no one dared to

Martins stepped closer to Melissa, his eyes wide and desperate. “Melissa, please, listen to me,” he said quickly, his voice trembling. “That video—it’s not real. Someone must have edited it to make me look guilty. You know I’d never do that to you.”Everyone in the hallway stared at him in disbelief. The audacity of his denial was almost unbearable. The lie hung in the air, heavy and shameless, as if he could twist the truth just by saying it loudly enough. Before he could say another word, a sharp sound echoed through the corridor. SLAP! Melissa’s palm met his face so hard that it made Celine flinch. The hallway went silent, the tension thick enough to choke on.“You bastard!” Melissa spat, her voice trembling with fury. “You think you can lie your way out of this? After everything you said about her? After everything you made me believe?”Martins stood frozen, his hand pressed to his cheek, his mouth open in shock. His voice came out small, broken. “You… you slapped me?”Melissa

The mansion turned into chaos the moment the ambulance arrived. Sirens tore through the air, bouncing off the high walls as paramedics rushed in through the wide-open doors. Two of them wheeled in a stretcher while another carried medical equipment. Alex’s grandmother lay pale and motionless on the floor, her breath shallow and uneven.“Please, careful!” Alex shouted, his voice trembling as the medics lifted her onto the stretcher. Melissa clung to her grandmother’s hand, tears streaming down her face. “She’s not breathing properly, please do something!” she cried.Within minutes, they wheeled her out of the house. Alex and Melissa followed closely, their faces drawn and pale. “We’re taking her to St. John’s Medical,” one of the medics announced. Alex nodded quickly and helped Melissa into the back of the ambulance before climbing in after her.Celine tried to follow them, panic flooding her veins. But just as she reached the door, Melissa turned sharply, her face twisted with fur

When Adam arrived home that night, the first thing that hit the air was the smell of whiskey trailing behind him. His mother, seated on the couch with her glasses perched on the bridge of her nose, was watching the evening news when she heard the door open. She turned sharply, frowning as her eyes landed on him.“Where are you coming back from smelling like shit?” she asked, her tone clipped with disapproval. “You reek of alcohol, Adam.”He ignored her question entirely and walked toward her with unsteady steps, his shirt half untucked. “Mum,” he began, his voice low but firm, “I just want to inform you that I’m going to wed Barbra this week, Saturday.”The remote fell from her hand without her even realizing it. Her mouth hung open slightly as she studied him, wondering if she heard him right. “What did you just say?” she asked, blinking rapidly.Adam dropped onto the couch opposite her, rubbing his temples. “You heard me, Mum. I’m marrying Barbra on Saturday.”She stared at him i

Adam sat alone in the dimly lit executive lounge, his tall glass of whiskey gleaming faintly under the amber light. A full bottle rested on the polished table before him, half-empty from his restless pouring. The air was thick with the scent of liquor and cigar smoke, yet nothing dulled the storm inside him. He swirled the drink slowly, staring blankly at the amber liquid as though searching for answers in its reflection. His mind wandered back to his last conversation with Mr. Denmark Scott — Barbra’s father. The man’s words had been calm, measured, but they had sliced through his pride like blades. “When you marry my daughter, you’ll have what you’ve always wanted. Until then, don’t come asking me for favors.” The memory replayed vividly, and Adam’s jaw clenched. He downed the whiskey in one rough gulp, the burn spreading down his throat but failing to ease the ache in his chest. Then came the thought he dreaded most — Celine. Her name echoed in his head like a curse he couldn’t
