Chapter 2

Penulis: Perfect Timing
I hadn't even processed why my sister Celeste was here before she'd grabbed my wrist and yanked me into the private room.

She dropped onto the couch right next to Asher and started pounding her small fists against his chest.

"How could you treat my baby sister like that? If she wasn't completely head over heels for you, do you think for a second I would have stepped aside?

"I let her have you, even though it killed me. If you hurt her again, we are through. I mean it!"

She bit her lower lip, tears welling up, making them shine.

Asher's whole demeanor melted. He bent his head, his voice dropping to a low, intimate murmur as he tried to soothe her—the two of them in their own little world, acting like I was invisible.

If I weren't standing right here, they'd probably have fallen into bed together right then and there.

Even consumed with wanting each other, Celeste didn't fully ignore me. She shot me a look, a flicker of awkward guilt in her eyes, watching for my reaction.

"If he's mean to you again, you come tell me," she said gently. "I'll make sure he regrets it."

As she spoke, her slender hand slipped inside Asher's shirt and gave his side a sharp pinch. It was framed as punishment for me, but it was pure, playful flirtation.

My hands clenched into fists so tight my nails bit into my palms. The sharp pain was the only thing that cleared my head.

How had I been so blind in my last life? How did I miss the obvious games these two could barely keep hidden?

It wasn't until miscarriage after miscarriage had wrecked my body that a friend finally forced me to see the truth.

I had the tonic Asher fed me every day tested. Sure enough, it was laced with high doses of abortifacients.

I secretly hacked into his texts, determined to dig up every buried detail.

The truth was more disgusting than anything I could have invented.

He and my sister had been a thing since high school. But they were both players, constantly breaking up and making up.

Then I showed up—naive, trusting, easy to manipulate—the perfect catalyst to keep their toxic game alive.

The thrill of betraying me right under my nose became their addiction. After our wedding, they only got bolder.

That tonic I drank every day? Celeste was the one who sourced the special blend. And every time I lost a baby, she'd play the guilt-ridden sister, seeking "comfort" from Asher.

Together, they kept pushing the line, getting their kicks from the deception.

Until they finally got bored of the game… and decided to discard me for good.

But by then, my body was broken. After so many losses, my health was shattered. All I could do was lie in a hospital bed and wait to die.

Every time I remembered it in this new life, a wave of nausea hit me.

The betrayal of the man I loved. The treachery of my own sister. Each memory was enough to shred my soul.

So in this life, I was done. I would not be their pawn ever again.

I stood up from the sofa, my movements sharp and final, and strode toward the door.

"Asher, we're done. This isn't a joke—it's a notice."

After I left, the room behind me returned to its noisy chaos. I could already imagine his entourage gossiping about me.

But as long as I broke this engagement, my real life could finally begin.

I'd just sunk into the backseat of my car when my phone blew up.

I answered, and Asher's furious roar vibrated through the speaker.

"Vivian, have you lost your mind?! Is this some twisted plot to destroy Celeste's life? Are you happy now?!"

  • Revenge of the Reborn Bride   Chapter 9

My wedding went down in the social register—for two reasons. The sheer, breathtaking opulence of it, of course. And the fact that my ex-fiancé was arrested for financial fraud by federal agents in the middle of my vows.Asher was later convicted on multiple counts of securities fraud and embezzlement. He'd be spending the rest of his life behind bars.In the quiet days that followed, Alexander would sometimes pull me close and ask, his voice laced with awe, "Did you know? Did you know he would show up like that? Is that why you had everything arranged with the cops?"I'd just give him a cryptic, playful smile. "Maybe I'm just psychic. A genius oracle, remember?"But the truth was mine alone. I hadn't known Asher would come. I was just… terrified. Terrified that this happiness—so vivid, so solid, finally within my grasp—would be ripped away again. Terrified of reliving the nightmare. So I prepared for every possible disaster. I was done letting anyone take what was mine.Resting

The wedding day arrived. The ceremony went ahead as planned, the grand venue packed with not a single empty seat.To a thunderous standing ovation, I took Alexander's arm and walked, step by step, down the aisle."Alexander Vance," the officiant's voice boomed through the hall, "do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?"Without hesitation, Alexander replied, "I do."A ripple of excitement ran through the audience. The officiant's gaze shifted to me."And Vivian Lockwood, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?"I drew a slow, deep breath, ready to pledge my life."I—""SHE DOES NOT!"With a crash, the double doors burst open. A man stood silhouetted against the blinding light, striding into the center of the aisle."The man she's supposed to marry is me! What the hell is this?!"If not for the voice, I wouldn't have recognized the man as Asher. He was a wreck—hair matted, a thick shadow of beard covering his jaw, eyes raw and bloodshot as if

Wedding gowns, venue changes, engagement photos—every single detail had to be reworked from scratch.A dizzying week flew by, and the astonishing thing was, I felt not even a flicker of grief over losing Asher. If it weren't for his mother showing up at my door, I might have forgotten he was ever part of my life. The second she saw me step outside, she charged at me like a woman possessed."Vivian! How can you just call off a wedding like that?! You're making a laughingstock of our family! What is my son supposed to do now?! Stop this nonsense and come home. There's still so much to do before the big day—it's right around the corner!"I let out a soft laugh."Oh, I'm still getting married. Just not to your son. Why are you so upset? And I thought you couldn't stand me? What's with the desperate begging now?"Her face turned a sickly shade of gray. She stood there, mouth opening and closing, no sound coming out. Before she could muster a reply, Celeste stumbled out from behind t

I was led to a villa, and Alexander, in an unusually good mood, pressed the keys into my hand. When I opened the door, the sight before me moved me to tears. From its architecture to the style, the decor, and even the smallest details, every corner of the villa was exactly how I had always dreamed my home would be.I excitedly explored every inch, walking through room after room, half-afraid it would all dissolve like a mirage."How did you know what I like?" I whispered.Alexander simply smiled and stroked my hair."Getting to do this for you is the greatest privilege I've ever had.""So… Vivian," he said, his eyes carefully studying my expression, "what you said back there… about marrying me. You meant it, right?"I recalled what Asher had said countless times: Alexander's feelings for me were deep and sincere. Seeing the raw sincerity in Alexander's eyes now, I knew it was no exaggeration.I nodded firmly."Yes, I meant it—"Brrrring-brrrring-brrrring!A jarring, aggress

Asher's grip went slack, and I took the chance to pull free. When I lifted my head, I met Alexander's sharp gaze.It wasn't just me—everyone in the room could see the storm gathering in his eyes. This was, after all, his homecoming banquet, and the spectacle Asher's mother was making had just ruined it.I opened my mouth to speak, but Alexander closed the distance in two strides, took my arm, and pulled me firmly against his side."Who did this to your wrist?"Following his sharp gaze, I finally saw the thin line of blood snaking down my arm.It must have been from Asher's knife, that graze when he threatened to cut me. The adrenaline had masked the sting.Asher's face twisted as he watched us, his expression darkening into something ugly."You just got off the plane, Uncle, and she's already clinging to you? Desperate much? Am I not enough? You gotta collect them all?"Rage tightened my chest. I lifted my chin, my voice clear and steady."Stop projecting your filth onto me.

I had never seen Asher look so tense—no, it was closer to fear."My uncle just got back from overseas. My whole future, my entire position… it's all in his hands now."He gave a thin, mirthless smile."I know he likes you. He'd burn this whole family down for you."If I were to… send you to his bed… who knows how much that would be worth? Enough for me to live very, very comfortably."My mind flashed to Alexander Vance—Asher's uncle—a man of imposing silence and a gaze that could cut glass, who had a habit of materializing whenever I was truly in trouble. In my last life, blinded by my obsession with Asher, I'd completely overlooked someone who could have been my salvation.Asher accelerated toward the hotel, hauling me through the grand lobby and into the packed reception before I could even catch my breath."Mom, I got her."He pushed me forward. I staggered, almost losing my balance. The woman before me, stout and severe in a silk dress, looked me over with pure contempt,
