Chapter 2

Author: Unsour Plums
They acted quickly.

While Candace and I were at home eating her birthday cake, their post went viral. They must have spent serious money boosting its popularity.

The hashtag 'Kept Man Insults Waiter In a Restaurant' left both of us stunned.

They really knew how to bend the truth.

The earliest and most viral video was posted by that waiter called Ethan Fawn.

In the video, he portrayed himself as an underpaid employee being bullied by the rich. He looked exhausted and wronged as he accused me of mistreating him.

"I'm just a regular waiter. I only want to make an honest living. I never expected him to be so mean. Right after ordering, he called me a pauper. Maybe it's because I don't wear designer brands like him that he looked down on me.

"But every dollar I earn comes from my own hard work. It's clean money. Unlike him, living off a rich woman just because of his looks.

"Luckily, our manager is a reasonable person and stood up for me. Otherwise, he might have even gotten violent with how aggressive he looked."

As if that wasn't enough, he posted another video to prove his claims.

Our restaurant equipped every staff member with a body camera. It was meant to protect employees from unreasonable customers and to protect their legal rights.

Ironically, it gave Ethan the perfect tool.

He edited the footage from his body camera, carefully cutting it to show me angrily calling him a pauper. It looked like I was insulting him out of nowhere. He then added clips of me supposedly harassing him.

With both witness testimony and video evidence, netizens began expressing their anger by criticizing me in the comment section. They were determined to stand up for Ethan.

[I hate guys who live off women and ruin society. It's unfair to people like us who work ourselves to the bone for a few grand a month.]

[This video pissed me off. What gives this guy the right to act so arrogantly? Dating a rich woman doesn't make you better than everyone else. What a joke.]

[Throwing in some foreign language too. It's probably only one of the few phrases he knows. He just wants to sound educated. Who's he trying to fool?]

They even dug up my social media account.

My posts showed off gifts from Candace like luxury watches and sports cars. These only reinforced their belief that I was a kept man.

My posts and inbox were filled with insulting comments and messages.

Among them, I spotted messages from Ethan.

[So, how does it feel, you pathetic kept man? That's the price you pay for messing with me at the restaurant. I bet being cyberbullied doesn't feel good.]

[Here's a deal. Post a public apology, and I'll forgive you. I'll even say a few nice things for you.]

[But it better be sincere. Kneel in front of the camera, bang your head on the ground, and slap yourself a few times. Maybe then I'll stop feeling angry.]

I replied with a blank expression.

[Who are you to act this arrogantly? Mandy, that manager of yours? You do realize you've already committed a crime, don't you?]

I had already looked into it. Mandy Lindt was the daughter of my mom's distant cousin.

He replied instantly.

[Haha! Our manager was personally appointed by HQ. What do you have to fight us with, you loser?]

Whether she was appointed by the headquarters or secured the position through family connections, I knew the truth better than anyone.

To put it bluntly, Ethan was barking up the wrong tree.

I didn't reply to him. Instead, I immediately texted my mom, Martha Keele. I didn't explain what happened. I just asked for access to the restaurant's surveillance footage.

This incident was too minor to involve her as the group CEO. The moment she stepped in, all her subordinates would know this wasn't a trivial matter.

Less than five minutes later, the restaurant's real-time cloud surveillance footage was sent to my phone.

Things were calm for a while.A week later, I went to the hospital to pick up some medicine for my dad's heart condition. I unexpectedly ran into Ethan there. He actually applied for medical parole. After asking around, I learned that due to his messy private life, Ethan had been diagnosed in detention with a highly contagious and severe case of AIDS. He needed immediate hospitalization and isolation.More surprisingly, Stanley was at the same hospital.David and Gina had cornered him in a hallway and were threatening him."I don't care! My son has been with Mandy for so long. Now he's sick. Shouldn't you, as Mandy's father, pay for his treatment?"I'm warning you. Give us 145 grand for medical expenses immediately! Otherwise, we'll hand over the USB drive with details of the overseas account Mandy transferred her stolen money to, as well as videos of the two of them in bed, to the police! She'll spend the rest of her life in prison! Think carefully!"Stanley's face turned pale

That's when I finally remembered where I had seen them before.Ethan's father, David Fawn, was a security guard at our company. His mother, Gina Fawn, worked as a janitor in the lobby.I saw them again three days later. The moment I arrived in front of the company building, David stopped me."Mr. Keele, I visited my son yesterday. He's lost so much weight. He feels deeply sorry for what he did to you. He can't even eat from the guilt. He asked me to pass on a message. Please forgive him. Give him a chance to start over–"I was annoyed."Move!" I uttered.David clenched his jaw. His expression turned vicious."Looks like my son was right about you. You're cold-blooded and heartless. You abuse your power and money to destroy other people!""You're crazy."After taking a few steps forward, I saw Gina mopping the floor in the lobby. When she spotted me, a cold, malicious smile appeared on her face.Instinctively, I slowed down. I noticed something unusual on the floor. There w

Not long after I hung up, Yvonne's husband, Stanley Lindt, showed up at my company building. He dropped to his knees right in front of me and clung to my pant leg. He even stuffed a card into my hand."Zachary, this is all the money my family has. Please show mercy. Let my wife and daughter go! Mandy is our only child. If she goes to prison, her life will be ruined. How will she ever get married?"A grown man was bawling his eyes out in front of me, but I didn't feel a hint of sympathy."If someone commits a crime, they have to face the consequences. Don't worry. If they show genuine remorse, the court will take that into account and give a lighter sentence."The moment he heard that, his expression changed. He jumped to his feet and pointed at me before shouting."I'm already begging you on my knees. You're still so heartless! Do you even have a conscience?"His self-righteousness was almost laughable.I shouldn't have wasted my time on someone like him.My voice turned cold.

Ethan suddenly jerked his head up. Shock was written all over his face."It was you! The moment Mr. Keele and his girlfriend walked in, you came up to me and said he looked like some boy toy being kept by a rich woman. You told me to give him a hard time!"Mandy slapped him hard across the face."Pick up your money! I never said that. Don't you dare slander me!"Ethan turned to face me."Mr. Keele, I'm telling the truth. Please believe me!"I clapped nonchalantly."Aren't you two lovers? How did you turn on each other so fast?"They both froze again."H-How did you know?"I played the surveillance footage on my phone.Everyone present was stunned."I can't believe they skimmed off that much money. They certainly have got the guts.""That's years in prison, right? I've heard Sylas Group's legal team has never lost a case."My expression turned serious."I've already notified the legal team to come and collect evidence. Sylas Group will pursue this to the end."Yvonne, Ma

Mandy finally noticed me. Her eyes widened as she pointed at me and started yelling."You again? How dare you cause a scene on such an important day? You really do have a death wish!"Smack!Yvonne slapped Mandy hard across the face with her trembling hand to stop Mandy from saying anything worse."How dare you speak to Mr. Keele like that? Apologize right now!"Mandy covered her swollen cheek. Her eyes went wide in disbelief."Mom, what are you saying? He's just a kept man. How could he possibly be Mr. Keele from Sylas Group? Have you lost your mind?"Ethan didn't believe it either."Yeah. I've looked into him. He's just some loser living off a woman. Maybe he came here pretending to be Mr. Keele to scam us!""Enough! Shut up!"Yvonne was so furious she was nearly out of breath."Zachary is the only son of the chairman of Sylas Group. He's the regional CEO in Hawthorn! Others are always trying to curry favor with him!"Seeing the look of fear in her mother's eyes, Mandy fi

Ethan stormed up to me with a face full of fury and shoved my shoulder hard."Who told you to come now? Get the hell out!"He then barked at the other male waiters behind him."What are you all standing around for? Get over here and drag this broke loser out! The manager said the executives' car is already downstairs. If this guy causes any trouble, we won't be able to pay for it with our lives!"Yvonne trembled in rage. She stepped forward and slapped Ethan across the face."Who do you think you are, talking like that? You're fired!"Ethan didn't recognize Yvonne. He glanced at the black case in her hand and assumed she was someone I had hired to back me up. Without hesitation, he slapped her back."You old hag, who the hell do you think you are? How dare you hit me? Someone get over here. Throw these two out!"Several waiters immediately ran over, grabbed Yvonne and me, and pinned us down near the entrance."Ouch! My back–"I hadn't expected Ethan not to recognize Mandy's m
