Too many things had happened in the past few days. Anna’s scent was still present in my room and it was the only way I could sleep. The clothes she’d worn were in my cupboard, filling it with her scent and it kept me from lashing out.

I was angry and I hated myself almost as much as I hated the hunters. I could feel myself slipping into the darkness. There was no laughter in the house anymore, everyone was keeping their distance from me and rightly so. I was unstable.

Rafael kept staring at her but if Sam minded, she didn’t show it. I had no idea what was wrong with him because he was smiling like an idiot on drugs. I’d never seen him react like that to anyone. He only had eyes for Sam.‘She’s not evil, she’s perfect,’ Rafael said in my mind and I nodded as I frowned at him. I had come to the same conclusion earlier but I relaxed hearing him confirm it. She’s perfect? I wondered briefly if Rafael was drunk as well as high.We sat in silence and I listened in on her conversation as she spoke to a woman and told her what happened. I came to the conclusion that the woman was her grandmother and driving in the dark wasn’t an option for her. “I’ll be fine, Nana, don’t worry about me,” she said and their call ended a few seconds later. She kept my phone in her hand and her shoulders slumped a bit.“There are no cabs that come out here,” I said to her and her eyes widened.“Okay, well, there goes that plan…” she said but her voice faltered at the end.“J

The biggest blessing of my life was Kiah. She was almost seven months old, sitting by herself and starting to crawl. She had everyone in the house wrapped around her little fingers and sometimes I had to use my Alpha tone to spend time with my daughter. It was a setup that worked for us although Sam mostly looked after her and took her everywhere. Her favourite pastime was when Slade was in wolf form and she would pull his ears and crawl all over him, laughing as she did so.She had the most beautiful laugh in the world and it was contagious as hell. My life was full and it didn’t take long before I couldn’t imagine my life without her. Most afternoons I napped with Kiah on my bed and I’d wake up with her hand on my cheek. We were all putty when it came to Kiah. Kai brought Adelie at least once a week and they would take Kiah for the weekend to stay with them once a month. Apparently Sophie was also enamored with her and the Zetas all loved her when Kai carried her in his arms and the

“Is that a baby?” Harper asked loudly.“This is Kiah,” I said and Slade stood up and looked questioningly at me.“Why are you holding a baby?” she asked me loudly.“So, I guess this is the part where I start to explain,” I said as the front door opened and Sam walked in carrying bags.“Raf’s bringing the rest but you guys can go help as well,” she said as she looked at them.“Thanks, Sam,” I said to her as she put the bags down.“The crib will be here in an hour,” she said.“Who’s baby is that?” Regen asked as he looked at us.“Mine,” I said and their jaws hit the floor.“How?” Harper asked me.“Well, you see, Harper, when a man and a woman love each other, the man plants a seed in the woman’s garden–” Leon said as Regen started laughing really loudly.“He can tell us everything after we’ve unloaded the car, come on, guys,” Sam said and clapped her hands to get them moving.I shook my head with a grin on my face. I sat with Kiah on the couch as they carried everything inside and Sam i

I took a deep breath and got Kiah out of the car. I made my way into the castle and down the long hallway toward Kai’s office. I was surprised that he hadn’t called me yet. His Zetas would have reported my presence to him.I opened his door and he turned around from where he stood in front of the window and frowned at me. “What is that?”“This is Kiah,” I said to him as he rounded his desk. “Kiah St. Claire.”“What?” he asked me.“Shawna never got an abortion,” I said to him.“She survived?” he asked me. I could see the hope in his eyes, the hope that I hadn’t killed another person because of stupid decisions.“No, but Kiah did,” I said to him as he walked towards me and took the baby from me.“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked as he masked his expression. He was looking into my eyes, trying to determine how much pain I was in.“I only found out a few hours ago and then Shawna went into labor. Her parents left, they don’t want anything to do with Kiah,” I said to him.“Oh fuck, your m

We stood in the waiting room, Shawna’s parents glaring at me. The air was thick with tension and I was equal parts angry and scared. I was scared that at any moment that doctor would walk through those doors and tell us that Shawna and the baby were dead. I was also angry that she’d kept her pregnancy a secret from me.Too much had happened to me. I wasn’t sure how much more I could handle before I broke. Guilt was already wrapped around my soul because I knew that once the doctor confirmed their deaths, her parents would just hate me more.“You should leave, you have no say here! You ruined her life,” her father said to me. My anger pulsed to new heights at his words and for the moment I forgot that Shawna and the baby wouldn’t survive.“I might not have a say right now, but as soon as that baby’s born my rights come into effect and there’s no chance that she’s giving that baby up for adoption,” I said to him standing up and facing him.“So now you’re interested in the baby,” her mot

Two weeks had gone by and things were quiet. Too quiet. I had just finished my perimeter run and taken a shower. I was ready to settle down for the night when my phone rang and I looked at the unknown number displayed on the screen.“Hello,” I answered, hoping it wasn’t some random Alpha that had gotten my number somehow.“Hello, Jericho,” Dani said and my anger flared up instantly.“What do you want?” I asked her.“I just called to see how you were doing,” she said but I could hear the malice in her voice.“What do you want?” I asked her again.“How does it feel to know you’re responsible for two human deaths?” she asked me.“What the fuck are you talking about?” I asked her. My patience was wearing thin and she had to know how much I hated her.“Anna died because you chose her,” she said and laughed.“I know,” I said as the pain took over again. A feeling of defeat settled in me because she was right. I had chosen Anna and now she was dead.“Well, messing with your bike was so easy,

I was at home in my office having a drink when my phone rang. The bottle was nearly empty and I looked at the caller ID. It was Kai and I turned my phone upside down and let it ring. I didn’t feel like talking to him. I had sent Sam to the store because tonight we would be celebrating and I didn’t

Kiran, Levi and Alex whispered to each other for a few seconds and I looked at the back of the wall above Kiran’s head. I could feel Kai’s eyes on me. I didn’t want to look at him, because he was there supporting another Alpha. His disappointment in me was so evident that I could almost taste it in

Rick wasn’t at school for the rest of that week and on Friday I had to appear in front of the Council. I was a little nervous about Friday because I knew that Kai would be there and I wasn’t sure if I’d be punished just because we had bad blood between us.Harper had settled into Slade’s room and s

“Can I help you?” the woman asked as she opened the door.“Morning, Mrs. Charles, I’m Jericho and I’m here to pick Dani up for school,” I said and smiled.“Oh, uhm, come on in,” she said and opened the door wider.“Thank you,” I said and stepped inside.“She’s still upstairs but you can wait in the
