“Are you sure we need to look for a marked tree? What exactly does that even mean?” I called to Xander, who was a few yards away, inspecting his side of the woods.

We had been at it for the better part of the day. I had hoped we would immediately find what we were looking for, but the task seemed more daunting than I had initially thought.
