Chapter Six

(Tyra's POV)

I felt a pound in my head. It was like I'd been hit with a tree. The beeping sound of a machine only made me irritated. I tried to open my eyes but I quickly shut them back because of the bright light. I tried again after a few seconds.

I groaned, sitting up. The sharp sting from my stomach made me wince. Different tubes were connected to my hand, delivering fluids. Medication, probably.

My gaze dragged around the room, trying to make sense of where I was. A white curtain, a chair beside my bed, the room smelled like antiseptic. I shifted the gown I was wearing. I looked down at the stitches in my stomach.

My eyebrows creased. How did I end up here?

The door creaked open and a nurse walked in. She jerked a little, surprised to see me awake. She rushed to my side, checking my vitals.

"How do you feel?"

"Like I was run over."

The nurse snorted a laugh before updating my vitals. "You're really lucky. You would've been dead if our Alpha hadn't found you."

I opened my mouth to ask a question but someone walked in. He was a middle aged man in a doctor's coat. He started talking with the nurse before his attention focused on me.

"You were taken for surgery because you took a critical hit to your head—"

"I have stitches. On my stomach."

The doctor and the nurse smiled. I raised my hand, feeling my head. There was a bandage around. "I have stitches on my head too, don't I?"

"Yes but don't worry, now that you're awake, your wolf would help your healing process," the doctor reassured. "In the meantime, our main focus should be..." he continued, but his voice faded into the background.

A scent drifted into the room.

Rain.

Not the sharp scent of an approaching storm, but earth after rainfall. Cool. Clean. Grounding. Beneath it lingered something deeper... vetiver.

My attention shifted toward the doorway just as a man stepped inside.

Tall, dark brown hair. His piercing green eyes snapped towards me. His aura alone made the hairs on my skin stand. He was the Alpha the nurse was talking about.

Our gaze stayed on each other as he approached me. An unfamiliar pull settled in my chest.

It made no sense.

Yet for a fleeting second, the thought crossed my mind.

Mine... or was I his?

"What's your name?" His voice cut through my thoughts. I blinked slowly, mouth open but nothing came out. I frowned. My name. What was my name?

"I don't...know."

The three of them exchanged looks. He moved closer. "Do you remember anything?"

"I don't think—" the doctor interrupted.

"Not one thing?"

"That's not how amnesia works, Alpha."

He ignored the doctor and reached for me.

I instinctively moved, avoiding his touch.

His hand froze mid-action. He hesitated before retracting his hand. His jaw clenched as he stepped away.

"When will she remember anything?" He turned to the doctor.

"We can't say for sure. She just woke up, we are yet to run some further tests. We'll get back to you with the necessary results."

He nodded, glancing at me once more before leaving.

I felt myself relax as he left.

"Hey, breathe, it's okay," the nurse smiled, rubbing circles on my back. I stared at my hand, they were trembling slightly. I took a few deep breaths, trying to calm down.

Was it because I just learnt I have amnesia?

Or was it because of the Alpha?

"I feel dizzy," I told her.

"You can rest now, if you need anything, nurse Lena would be happy to help," the doctor said. "Don't worry, you're in great hands. Doctor Tim is the best doctor here," Lena reassured. I only nodded.

Doctor Tim and nurse Lena left my room soon after. I lay back on the bed. I stared at the ceiling, trying to remember how I even got here. All I knew was I had a brain injury, stitches on my stomach and the Alpha saved me.

His rain and vetiver.

I groaned, frustrated. The pain from my stomach made me wince. Shouldn't my wolf be healing us by now? I frowned, yes, I'm a werewolf but for some reason, I couldn't reach my wolf. I couldn't even feel her.

Was I wolfless?

I have to stop thinking so hard, or I might make my brain swell and pop my stitches.

I didn’t know when I slept off.

(Kanyon's POV)

"Why does she have the same mark as the rogues?" Jace frowned.

"She can't be a rogue."

"She doesn't smell like them, she's our ma—"

"We don't know that yet."

Jace wanted to protest some more but I blocked him out.

"Is something wrong, Alpha Kanyon?" Doctor Tim interrupted. "No, no. Just... take care of her." I shook my head, returning my attention to him. "You have my word." He patted my back. "The Luna is in safe hands," he added.

"Luna?"

"You seem very worried about her, so I assumed—"

"She's not—" I sighed. "Don't let this go further than this room."

Doctor Tim nodded.

***

I was in a council meeting when I got a mind-link from Doctor Tim that the woman had woken up. I had abruptly left, going straight to the hospital. Jace couldn't sit still in my head throughout the drive.

Getting to the hospital didn’t help either. As I walked down the hallway, her lily scent grew stronger. I got into her room, her brown eyes immediately on me. I felt a pull in my body, like we were meant for each other.

"She's here, she's awake." Jace pranced excitedly.

I walked up to her. "What's your name?"

She opened her mouth, but hesitated. "I don't... know," she whispered, sounding almost shocked by her own answer.

What?

"She doesn't have a name? Or she can't remember? Or she doesn't want to tell us?" Jace frowned.

"Do you remember anything?"

She didn't reply.

Doctor Tim tried to interrupt, but I ignored him.

"Not one thing?"

"That is not how amnesia works, Alpha," Doctor Tim cautioned.

"Do you think she can feel the pull?" Jace urged me forward.

I needed to confirm. I reached for her, but she shrank away as if she'd expected me to hurt her. My hand froze midair. My jaw tightened. Either she was wary of me... or that fear came from somewhere much older. Neither possibility sat well with me.

"I can't sense her wolf." Jace took over for a split second but I pushed him back.

"No wolf?"

Jace nodded.

That would explain why she's healing so slowly... Unless her wolf is too weak for me to sense.

"When will she remember anything?" I asked Doctor Tim.

"We don't know how extensive the memory loss is. We still need to run a few tests. I can't say what she'll remember... or when."

"If she can't remember her own name... how was she supposed to tell us where that mark came from?"

"Jace, can you not right now." I pushed him to the back of my mind.

I glanced at her one last time. Her head remained lowered, her breathing uneven. I clenched my fists before turning and walking away.

(Ronald's POV)The sun had barely risen by the time the troops set out.Search parties spread through every inch of the forest surrounding my territory. Warriors moved in pairs, tracking scents, examining footprints, and searching for blood. An injured, wolfless woman couldn't have gone far.She was out there. And I intended to find her before anyone else did.Cassius's group was ahead. We followed the direction she'd run, tracing a trail of broken branches."Master Ronald!" Cassius called as his group stopped. I walked up to them. "What did you find?""Blood, on the branches."I took a look. "Check around." I ordered. The troops examined the other branches on the path and there was truly a trail."That woman just made our job easier," Oliver chuckled a laugh."We'll find her, dead or alive."We followed the blood trail deeper into the forest. The stains grew farther apart, as though she'd been struggling to stay on her feet. Broken twigs and torn leaves marked her desperate path.Wit

(Ronald's POV)The door slammed shut behind me. I swept everything off my desk. Glass shattered across the floor, sharp shards slicing into my palm. I barely felt the sting. Another failed attempt to capture the Alpha of Springfield Pack. Their damn competent warriors. My warriors had already attacked them twice this week. They should've been exhausted. How were Springfield's warriors still so strong?Someone knocked and I let him in. Cassius, my second-in-command, lowered his head as he walked in. "Master Ronald, we lost a number of warriors—""I'm not stupid."Cassius shifted in his spot. "I think you should consider fewer attacks..."I grabbed him by the throat and slammed him against the wall. "Do you think I need you to tell me that?"Cassius clawed at my hand. I let go of him. "I'm sorry," he coughed an apology. I didn't spare him a glance. I walked out, heading to the dungeon. I stopped by the field. The training field was littered with injured warriors. I walked up to one. "

(Kanyon's POV)"You can’t just leave her there," Jace protested as I walked out of the hospital. I didn’t want to. But I had things to attend to. "I can't wake her up with my voice, Jace," I explained. "She needs someone beside her.""That's why we have Doctor Tim and the nurses."Jace grumbled before staying silent. I mind-linked one of the warriors to come pick me up. We got to the pack house. Athena was standing in front, arms folded. Her piercing gaze stayed on me, watching till I stopped in front of her. "It's midnight. What's going on?" She loosened her arms. I took a deep breath. I didn’t respond. I just headed for the stairs. "Our guest refused to speak. Eric didn't want to take further measures till you arrived," she reported. I stopped, turning around. Nikolia appeared. He draped his arm over Athena's shoulders, giving her a kiss on her cheek before turning his attention to me. "We've gathered the bodies at the outskirts. Apart from the marks, there was nothing unusual

  • Rogue Hearts   Chapter Two

(Kanyon's POV)I walked over to one of the cars parked nearby as I shifted back to my human form. This was the second time this week those rogues attacked my pack. And this time, the damage wasn't all bad."Alpha Kanyon, here's the report of the bodies we were able to gather." My Beta, Eric walked up to me. I took the paper from his hand. Only three of our pack members suffered casualties. A number of rogues were killed. "It's strange. Rogues are solitary," I mumbled, a deep frown on my face."We've lined up the bodies.""Let's take a look." I moved first. We got to the tree line. Eric passed me a rubber glove. I wore it and approached the first body. From what I could see, he was young male. Around his late teens. I moved his head to the other side. A strange marking on his neck caught my attention. "The women and children have been moved to the—" Nikolia, my Gamma reported as he approached. "Get over here."He walked over and crouched down. I showed him the marking. "It's a silver
