She knew the outcome of this story, it had happened so many times before over the many years she had been at this little cottage and while these stupid feuds between the Mafia Families existed it would happen again in the future. She looked down at the beautiful baby boy and was surprised to see him watching her solemnly with his milky blue eyes as if he knew what his life held for him and he was not afraid. She crossed herself and shook her head,
‘Caro Dio, mi sto spaventando un neonato, che ridicolo’ [Dear God, I am getting spooked by a new born, how ridiculous] This little boy was special because she had cared for his father in the same way, Alessandro had always been her favourite, a sunny child with a ready smile who won the hearts of all who met him. He rarely cried and as long as she spoke to him he would smile up at her adoringly and when he went to school he soon made friends and was a nautral leader. The other cxhildren soon discovered he had a quick brain and hated bullies, when the older children picked on the new ones he stepped in and was not afraid to use his small fists if he needed to. He did not need to do that often, he was so clever he could talk his way out of most things and would make the bullies laugh with his charm and crazy antics. His Grandmother watched him grow in confidence and learn from his mistakes, he never made the same mistake twice and his teachers adored him as much as his friends did.
She had not been surprised to receive Alessandro's letter telling her all about the pretty young woman, Gabriella, who had just dropped off their son. He had been so happy, so very much in love, it had never crossed his mind that her being from a rival ‘family’ and their deadly enemies to boot, would cause them so much trouble. She sighed heavily as she went into the kitchen to prepare a bottle for the newborn and saw sitting on the well scrubbed table the shiny invite to their wedding, Alessandro had naively thought by arranging for them to be married in a Catholic church and by a Priest it would make their families change their mind and accept them as a couple. It backfired spectacularly, instead of accepting her they were furious saying he had been trapped by the whore because she was pregnant. The trouble with that statement was it was actually true, she had been in the early stages of pregnancy with the newborn in the crib. This was why they had arranged the wedding not wanting their son to be born outside of marriage, it was still frowned upon in old fashioned Catholic Sicily. He had been ordered to get the marriage annulled but by then his new wife was showing with their baby and it was impossible to do. His family went after her , criticising everything she did, insulting her at every opportunity, bullying her into doing things she did not want to do, her life was a living hell. The only thing keeping both of them going was their love for each other that never waivered and when he discovered their plot to snatch his son straight after his birth and give him to his childless oldest sister he finally snapped and they made their plans to eun away and start afresh in another country. He could not believe his siblinigs would be so cruel, he had felt sorry for his sister she was unable to have children due to a childhood illness that had involved removing her womb. When he approached her in secret she hadd scoffed at him saying it was his own fault for marrying that enemy bitch and the child would be far better off with her to be brought up as one of their family. Her final words had destroyed him, ‘If you do as you are told and get rid of her after the birth I will let you be a part of his life as one of his Uncles. You are young and will have plenty of time to marry again to one of our own and have lots of children.’ He has walked away in disgust and they had intensfied their plans to run away, they had hoped to go much sooner than they did but her Grandmother became seriouosly ill and she had to stay to attend the funeral. They had run that night, not knowing the stress had already put Gabriella in early labourthey had been so close to escaping, only a few miles from the border and safety when their son had made it clear he wanted to be born in the same country as his parents.
Romero Lucian never saw either of his parents again, the two families hunted them down like animals and cornered them together, when they asked about the child the couple had lied and said he was stillborn and theyhad buried him in the mountains away from their toxic families. This had enraged both fathers and the couple had died in each other arms from the bullets of their guns. The two men had then ordered their remaining sons to bury them quickly with nothing marking their grave so they were rolled into the earth still gripping each other together forever in eternity. Romero would learn of them from his Grandmothers knee and he knew she told him the truth, his Nonno would never lie to him she would spank himi when he tried to lie so he always told the truth just like her.He was happy growing up with the old lady in the little cottage, they did not have much but they did have a lot of love, she showered him with it but she knew it would not last the Mafia would knew of him and they would come for him eventually only death freed you from their clutches.
He took him to Juliette who was very woozy and sleepy from the anaesthetic so he kissed her gently and went to see their Son. He was perfect, tiny, only 4lb 4oz [About 2 kg] with a shock of chestnut curls and milky blue eyes. He felt his heart expanding with love as the Nurse placed him in his arms and he kissed the downy head,‘Benvenuto nel mondo mio figlio. Ti amerò e ti proteggerò con la mia vita, nessuno ti farà mai del male mentre traggo respiro. Mio figlio, Alessandro Lucian.’ [Welcome to the world my Son. I will love and protect you with my life, no one will ever hurt you while I draw breath. My Son, Alessandro Lucian]He named him softly and smiling at the Nurse he placed him in his crib and went back to his wife. While she slept he made some calls announcing the baby’s birth to the world, his Uncles were thrilled, and at last, a boy was born to continue their bloodline to lead the new Mafia Family.A week later he took them both home, Juliette had recovered quickly and just
‘This is private’He told her and she agreed it had all become very wearing and she had a new respect for those who had to live their lives in the public eye. He insisted she kept to the villa so he could protect her and for the first time she actually did as she was told. She seemed to spend a lot of time sleeping as the baby grew inside her, she was so tired all the time even the slightest effort exhausted her, she did not tell anyone thinking it was just part of her pregnancy. Swimming was the one exercise she could still do and she made herself go down to the pool every day for at least an hour. Once in the cool water, the tiredness would lift and she swam as long as she could, length after length pushing herself.Romero was in his office when his mobile rang,‘Don Romero, Come stai?’ [Don Romero, how are you?]His wife’s Consultant greeted him and he frowned,‘Sto bene, onorevole Levani, c'è un motivo per cui lei chiama me e non mia moglie.’ [I am well, Mr Levani, is there a reaso
She stood up and paced the beach she was hot and angry with herself she could not get rid of the bad feeling in her gut, if she married Romero he would be hurt. Groaning with frustration she ran into the sea, the water was cool on her hot face and body without thinking she began swimming. It felt good the heat left her body and her mind cleared then the reality of her situation set in,‘What are you doing, you crazy bitch, Romero is waiting for you’She felt pleasantly tired and turned to go back and nearly drowned as she panicked she was much further out than she had intended. So locked in her fears she had not noticed the tide pulling her away from the shore and now she was in trouble. Taking a deep breath she floated on her back and tried to control the panic and her racing heart,‘Breath in, hold, breath out, hold’She chanted to herself taking deep breaths‘I can do this’She told herself slowly bringing her heart rate down and swallowing the panic inside her, after a few minutes
They smiled and nodded following the girls back to their college and it was no surprise to find the girls were right their friend Alicia was very talented. Juliette loved her clothes, she had taken the Goth concept and added a sexy feminine touch to it, taking the plain black and adding purples, greens and blues in rich swathes. She sat entranced mentally deciding she was going to buy up most of this girl's collection when the young woman herself came onto the stage. Standing proudly she announced that the final part of her show was a new venture for her as she was trying her hand at wedding dresses. The models came onto the stage and Juliette looked hungrily, it was the third dress being modelled and she almost burst into tears when the model walked towards her, it was perfect. Jumping to her feet she dashed backstage to find the young designer, smiling to herself, this young designer was the same age as her.‘Alicia?’The girl turned to look at her and she held out her hand,‘Sono J
He thrust deeply and she gripped his ass,‘Good’The next few days were frantic, most of the other Dons called or came to the villa to congratulate them in person, meetings were held and the formalities were dealt with. Their union brought together the two biggest Mafia families, with centuries of hate running through both sides. They were suspicious of each other so Romero threw a huge ‘get to know each other’ party on the lawns of the villa. He brought as many of both sides together as he could and he sat them next to each other, with one strict instruction,‘Parlare.; [Talk.].He thought it might end badly with them at each other's throats or worse but it did not, unsurprisingly, the women broke the ice first. They talked about their families, showed each other photos and encouraged their children to play together. There had been enough killing, enough women left as widows bringing their children up alone, they wanted this. It did not take long for the men to follow suit, slowly, c
She asked looking from the Leader to Romero confused and a little worried until he took her hand and squeezed it reassuringly,‘Sì, leader, ricordo l'avvertenza.’ [Yes, Leader, I remember the caveat.]He replied and she gasped as all eyes turned to them smiling gently at her still holding her hand he gallantly got down on one knee, ‘Juliette Santini. Sei il mio unico vero amore, il mio mondo, l'aria che respiro. Ti amo più della vita stessa. La mia piccola tigre mi farai il grande onore di diventare mia moglie?’ [Juliette Santini. You are my one true love, my world, the air I breathe. I love you more than life itself, my little tigress will you do me the very great honour of becoming my wife?]She looked at him in astonishment, remembering the caveat at the last meeting and the stunning diamond ring he was holding out to her then her beautiful eyes shone with love and she pulled him to his feet jumping into his arms,‘Sì, sì mille volte sì’ [Yes, yes a thousand times yes]The arena
