Arita’s POV

My focus shifted from the plates to my phone and then to Mom. I didn’t pick up my phone immediately. Mom did. I watched as she unlocked it, her eyes focusing fully on the screen.

Suddenly she screamed, her body standing up in haste, feet hitting the hard floor as she danced to no music. Her once saddened face shifted so quickly to a happy one.

I was happy she was finally out of that saddened mood, but at the same time I wanted to know what changed, what message suddenly brightened her mood.

Mom, what’s it? I asked, not knowing the exact way to ask the question.

Arita, the family we worked for at their mansion some hours ago just made the payment and even added extra for your service.

You don’t mean it, Mom, I exclaimed, not believing how everything could change in a minute.

Your mom means everything, and the good news is the job still stands, she added. We have more than enough to pay for rent.

I stretched forward to hold her hand, my eyes almost teary as I couldn’t contain my joy. At some point, I thought I was not only ugly but also a bad luck jinx, ruining everyone around me. I’m happy I’m not bad luck, I cried.

Oh my child, don’t cry, Mom said, her hands cleaning the tears that fell on my cheeks. You are the best thing that has happened to me, Arita.

After so much jubilation like we won some lottery, as if it wasn’t the pay for what we worked for, Mom called the landlord and transferred the money for our rent.

I had almost forgotten I had a message too. My hand picked up the phone lying on the table.

I checked my notifications, my mind kind of hoping it was Ray, but my face met disappointment as it wasn’t anything related to him.

It was the academy, the same one I applied to for their scholarship yesterday. It stated that all applicants should make it to the school by Monday for the exam. It had been rescheduled earlier than the former time.

I informed Mom about it.

Best of luck, my child. Let me know if you need anything, Mom said.

I looked at her with warmth. Even when things aren’t that rosy, she always tries as much as possible to satisfy my needs, and that I did not take for granted.

That night I slept late, busy reading and solving past questions. The next day wasn’t any different, as I spent all day reading things related to school. I even went as far as going to the community library to borrow some books.

The long awaited day was finally here. I left home earlier before the time scheduled for the exam.

At exactly an hour before eight, I was standing before the beautiful school with tall buildings. This was my first time in the school. I had only seen it on TV. I took my time to stare at every building and statue representing legends.

The school was so big that one could get lost. Luckily for me, I saw the directional boards the school had fixed at every corner to help guide folks like me who didn’t know their way around.

Before long, I got to the hall scheduled for the exam. A few of my mates were already standing, some seated on the chairs outside. I joined them but not too close.

In no time, an elderly woman with glasses on walked in her heels before us. The glasses on her eyes made her look weird as she placed them underneath her eyes, making her eyes bulge from above. Who the hell wears glasses this way?

All applicants are welcome to the school. You don’t need to come in with anything. Drop your things at the locker there, as all writing materials will be provided for you in the hall. When you walk in, search for your registration number on the seats and sit according to it.

A young man guided us in and we all settled down. There were about twenty five of us. The exam questions were distributed. I answered every question well, as there were some questions I had treated during the weekend. Only a few were new.

The exam ended on a good note for me.

All applicants should exit the hall now and check your portal regularly for any additional information.

I dragged my legs out of the school, heading toward the right to board a car leading to the next neighborhood instead of going home.

I wanted to see Ray, and wanted to beg him again.

I know he is not that type to lash out. Maybe he has something bothering him. I gave myself a chance to doubt.

I slept off halfway through the ride. The academy was quite far from home, and the fact that I didn’t sleep early yesterday because I studied late for the exam didn’t help.

The driver woke me up, announcing my arrival at Ray’s place. I paid and stepped down from the car.

The place looked completely different from the last time I came. No arranged chairs, no loud music or decorated lights. Everywhere looked quiet, like it was supposed to be the day of his birth celebration.

I walked my way to the door and knocked on it loudly, but no one came to answer me.

My hand turned the door handle to confirm if he was home or if he was purposely ignoring me, but the door went wide open instead.

I decided to check for Ray since I had already opened the door. No one was in the living room except scattered clothes on the floor.

I moved slowly to the room, and there I heard it again, just like the other day when I was here. A moan, but this time it was that of a male. The voice was too masculine to be female.

My hands unlocked the door, and what I saw made my jaw drop wide open.

This is definitely not Ray, my conscience screamed.

Arita’s POV“Where am I?”I opened my eyes, but the brightness of the room made me shut them immediately. Slowly, I opened them again, adjusting to the brightness. At first, my sight was blurry, but with time, I could see clearly. The room looked nothing like the thatched hut. It looked more like a room from the city I left behind.I tried sitting upright from the bed I was lying on, but before I could, a shout resonated from the door.“She is awake!” the lady shouted.Following her announcement were footsteps thundering toward the room.I lay still on the bed, waiting for whoever was coming to give me some explanation. Or was I in the land of the dead?“Arita, oh my goodness, you scared the hell out of me when you went into a coma,” Mom said, her eyes already teary as she embraced me in a hug.“Mom, where is this place?” I asked.“Welcome back home,” King’s voice interrupted before Mom could respond.“Mom, what the hell are we doing in his house?” I shifted away from her.“You need t

Morgana’s POVMy hands stretched out to the air, summoning the powers of the air. The tight air soon turned into wind.“Rise by my command, strike at my call to who I have mentioned,” I said while I cast a chant from the black magic. The cloud soon darkened, thundering so loudly above me, but I didn’t move. This was something I was used to. Whenever I used black magic, it came with its own effect, the reason why it was banned in the land of the witches.I don’t plan on using black magic for long. Once I get hold of Arita’s power, it will give me all I want and I will be the most powerful of all. I laughed out loud. The loud thundering of the cloud soon grew louder. At that time, the sky was completely dark with no light brightening the earth.“Come inside before the rain starts pouring,” Sophia informed, her little head peeping from the cave. This was my time and her time to go to the land of no return.“Now strike at my command,” I shouted, my hands directing the wind at her.The lou

Morgana’s POV“How did you get here?” she asked, with her eyes widely open and body shifting backward a bit.“Are you okay, Arita?” Her mom rushed in along with a lady who held so much power.“She… she…” Arita pointed her finger slowly to where I lay, making the two women look in my direction.“Morgana,” her mom called. A look of recognition was splattered on her face instead of shock.“I am here because I need to protect our queen,” I feigned concern.“Your queen?” Everyone asked except the other lady whose name I didn’t know. Her face held dislike, hatred, and at the same time criticism. My mind ached in fear as I made contact with the lady. It was as if she could see through me, through my evil plan.“How do you get here with that much seal?” she stepped forward, her hands folded to her bosom.“I am a witch and every witch has a way around things. Mine was easier because I have been in close encounter with the queen, making it easier for me to connect to her.”“You can’t stay here.

  • Ruin Me,King Owen   Chapter 76

Arita’s POVI couldn’t take any more food, as everything suddenly smelled bad to me. With the help of Mom, I managed to walk back to my room.Shortly after we got in, Sophia came in with an elderly woman who looked like she would be in her fifties. Her hands held a small wooden box. She bowed slightly before sitting on the bare floor, placing the box in front of her.The box was opened, revealing different herbs and tools inside. She picked some of the tools and moved towards where I lay. Her hand rubbed some herbs on my stomach, while she rubbed some on my palm. She checked my eye color and also the color of my palm.I didn’t quite know what she was doing, as all these methods looked too archaic compared to what a doctor would have used if I were in the city. After what felt like years, she withdrew all the tools from my body and placed them back neatly into the box just as she had arranged them earlier. I must admit she looked neat and confident about her work. The room was extremel

Arita’s POVSophia had rushed in immediately when I woke up, more like she was my spirit guard through the dreamland. Her face held panic and, at the same time, relief.“Thank goodness you got back before things got complicated,” she said.I remembered staring at her like I had seen a zombie because I hadn’t really recovered from the dream.“Arita. Arita,” she shouted, and that did the magic.“Who was that lady they killed? What was all that dream about?” I asked hurriedly, like she would understand.Surprisingly, she did.“Those are your kind who suffer from other kinds. That was how badly your kind was treated for years.”“What do you mean? I am a witch and we’ve all been treated unfairly?”“Yes,” Sophia replied.Something in me started boiling. It was coming from within. Before I could understand what was happening, I was already floating in the air, high above the ground. My body had disappeared from the thatched house to the open field. My eyes were white as snow, my hair coated

King’s PovI walked out of the blood sucker before he could spill any more nonsense about joining forces . No way I am ever seeking his help for anything from him.I got into the car to leave, the route I took was definitely not the way home, nor was it the way to my office. It was the way to the border that linked the humans with the werewolves. The border has been made invisible to humans by the moon goddess for years without any bridge until the past few months when the hunters finally found it.I parked the car just a few distances away from the seal. Getting in was so easy as this wasn’t my first and the seal recognized its alpha.A beautiful land appeared, filled with green lands and flowers, the flowers that the witches had made grow on the land years ago.I followed the walking path till I got to the center of the pack where everyone resided. As every pack member sighted me, they all bowed slightly to pay homage to their alpha.I waved in acknowledgment of their greeting, even
