Alessandra's POV

The words hit me like they were meant to break something inside me.

“She’s fallen into a coma.”

For a moment, I didn’t breathe. I didn’t blink. I just stared at the doctor, my fingers tightening around the edge of the plastic chair until they ached. The sterile hallway smelled like antiseptic and cold air, but all I could smell was blood. Alex’s blood.

Vivian’s sharp inhale broke the silence. She was standing beside me, her hands trembling in a way I’d never seen. “No,” she whispered, almost like she could will the truth away. Then she stepped forward, her voice breaking. “Can I see her?”

The doctor hesitated, his eyes flicking to me, then to Killian and Damon standing a few feet away. Finally, he nodded. “Only for a few minutes. She’s stable for now, but her condition is critical.”

Vivian didn’t wait for permission twice. She brushed past him and disappeared into the room.

I followed.

The beeping of the heart monitor was too slow, too deliberate, like the machine wa

Alessandra's POV.“Will you watch your mother die, or would you keep your mouth shut and let me do what I need to?”His words weren’t shouted — they didn’t need to be. They carried the same weight as a blade pressed to my throat. My pulse spiked so fast it made my vision blur, and my grip on the drip stand next to Alex’s bed was the only thing keeping my knees from buckling. The sharp scent of antiseptic filled my nose, but it did nothing to mask the bitterness clawing up my throat. What could have even been the cause of all this bitterness? Why was he so cruel?“You’re a sick person,” I muttered, the words tasting like rust on my tongue. I hesitated, forcing my voice to steady. “What do you even need to do?”He smiled — not a pleasant smile, but one that was empty, mocking. “Take her with me, of course.”The air around us seemed to drop ten degrees. “Fuck no,” I whispered, my voice low and lethal. My body moved before my brain could catch up. I stepped between him and Alex’s bed, gr

Alessandra's POV The room was too quiet. Too still. Even the beeping from the heart monitor seemed to hush itself, like it knew who was about to walk in.I didn’t have to see him to know he was here. I felt it—the way the air shifted, the way my stomach clenched as if bracing for a punch I didn’t remember agreeing to take. The scent of his cologne—sharp, heavy, expensive—hit me first, and my body reacted before my mind could catch up. My fingers curled into fists in my lap.“Why is he here?” I muttered, low enough that only Vivian caught it.She was standing by Alex’s bed, her hand still loosely wrapped around Alex’s limp fingers. She didn’t look at me, but her knuckles went white. “Because he probably owns this place,” she said, voice clipped. “Or at least enough people in it.”Then the door opened, and there he was.My father filled the doorway like a shadow, dressed in a dark suit that probably cost more than some people’s houses. His hair, streaked with silver, was combed back

Alessandra's POV “I know her,” Vivian muttered, her voice low but certain. “She’s one of Alex’s old friends. I used to think their resemblance was uncanny but damn.”“What’s her name?” Damon asked, his voice gruff. “Ursula,” Vivian whispered. “We need to get her to a hospital before—“The girl stirred, then sat up in her own blood, groaning softly. Everybody froze, watching. How was she—The girl looked dazed, groaning softly before limping away from the car toward the roadside brush. For some reason, neither of us tried to stop her. She didn’t speak to us—just threw a small, almost hostile glare over her shoulder before vanishing into the dark even as she bled severely. Killian’s gaze tracked her every step, his jaw rigid. “Then where’s your sister?”“That’s what we need to find out,” Vivian said, her tone sharpening. “Alex must have sent her somewhere else as a distraction.”My pulse was a constant drumbeat in my ears. Each passing second felt like it was sliding away, too fast

Alessandra’s POVI hung up the phone. Killian didn’t speak, neither did Damon. My eyes stayed fixed on the tall building in front of me — my father’s mansion. Its stone walls gleamed under the late afternoon sun, cold and unwelcoming, like they had been all my life. My breath caught in my throat, uneven, shaky, but I forced it steady. I couldn’t let myself unravel here. Not in front of him.The massive front doors opened. Vivian walked out first, flanked by two bodyguards I recognized from years ago — men who had stood by while my father broke things, broke people. Behind her, he appeared. My father.I hadn’t seen him since the wedding, and in that moment, I hated that part of me had hoped he might look older, weaker, less… himself. But he hadn’t changed. Not a single line out of place. His sharp jaw was still set in permanent disapproval, his eyes still that cold steel grey that could slice you open with one glance. The corner of his mouth lifted into something that might have been

Alessandra’s POV“Vivian? Where are you?” I asked the second she picked up the phone. I heard static in the background, faint rustle of something soft—maybe clothes—and a whimper I was so certain I’d heard before.“Ale, what’s wrong? I’m sorry I had to leave early. Family emergency,” she said, but it sounded more like she was whispering and trying so hard not to be heard. My gut didn’t feel right. I didn’t like the queasy feeling I was getting. “Family? You haven’t heard from your parents in three years. The fuck do you mean by family emergency?”“Ale, stop it. I don’t talk much about them doesn’t mean they don’t exist,” she snapped. My brows rose involuntarily, and Brie paused, immediately noticing the shift in my demeanor. Stella followed, and they both walked closer to me. They listened.I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts. “Who has the ring, Vivian? And why do you have it?”Silence on the other end. It lasted for around thirty seconds, the only filler being the
