Lachlan Vance POV

The clock ticked to 6:15 AM.

Callan's voice murmured through the cracked door in the next room, low and businesslike with the flight crew. I had maybe three minutes before he came back for me.

I crossed to the duffel, pulled the burner free of its false bottom, and dialled not the corporate switchboard, but a private relay number that bypassed Vance Tower completely and dropped straight into Vanguard One's bunker beneath Sydney.

"Director," I said the second the line connected

Lachlan POVKirrily flinched slightly at the word "wife," but she didn't correct me. "I had already tried once. But won't stop until I get what I want.""Then we stop him first," I said, my voice hard as steel. "We use the evidence you've gathered to expose him. We go to the authorities, the board, and the media. We bury him.""It's not that simple," she said. "Callan has allies everywhere. He's spent thirty years building his network. If we move too fast, he'll disappear before we can prove anything.""So we do this carefully then," I said. "Methodically, we will gather irrefutable proof, and then we strike when he least expects it."Kirrily nodded. "That's what I've been trying to do. But I can't do it alone. I need access to the company's internal systems. I need someone on the inside.""You have me," I said. "I can get you access to everything. Financial records, security logs, and email archives. Whatever you need."She looked at me sceptically. "You'd give me access to the compa

Lachlan's POVI couldn't believe that Kirrily had been my backbone all along; she was standing in the shadows, draining her own savings to buy my shares, protecting my throne from the wolves I had invited into my house."No," I choked, my hands flying to my hair as nausea rolled over me. The self-pity burned away, replaced by a white-hot self-loathing that felt like acid in my bones. "No, Kirrily, this can't be real. You wouldn't. After the way I treated you, after I threw you out into the rain.""I didn't do it for you, Lachlan," she said, her voice flat and cold. She didn't raise her voice. She didn't scream. Her calm was worse than any rage. "I did it because my pride wouldn't let strangers ruin what we built. Don't flatter yourself into thinking it was forgiveness.""I hated you," I whispered, the confession tearing from my throat, raw and ugly. I dropped my head into my hands, my shoulders shaking as tears, hot tears, finally broke through. "God help me, Kirrily. Every day I ha

Kirrily's POV"I didn't let them swallow you," I corrected, my voice shaking despite my best efforts." Because my name was tied to your failure. I kept you afloat while you cursed my name in the dark. But that's not why I opened this folder. Look at the transaction logs from the week before the scandal. Follow the routing keys."He leaned in, his shoulder nearly touching mine. His eyes traced the digital trail down to the source. His breath caught. The ledger didn't just show rescue funds. It showed the exact financial path used to plant the fake evidence that destroyed my life. And the trail led straight to someone he trusted with his soul.I watched his face as the realization hit him. It was like watching a man drown in slow motion. The denial came first, that instinctive rejection of a truth too painful to accept. His brow furrowed, his lips parting as if to argue, to explain away what the numbers clearly showed."That can't be right," he muttered, leaning closer to the screen.

The Midnight TruceKirrily's POVThe clock on my dashboard read 2:14 AM as I steered down the ramp into the underground parking structure of a neutral office building downtown.Lachlan had reached out to meet up with me.I cut the engine and sat in the dark for a moment, regulating my breathing, preparing myself. Then I opened the door and stepped out. My heels echoed off the concrete pillars. From the shadows near the support columns, a tall figure stepped forward into the dim light. He looked older. The lines around his eyes were deeper and harder than they had been four years ago. But the intensity in his gaze was unchanged. He wore a heavy black coat, unbuttoned, looking every bit the corporate warlord, but without the arrogant armour that had once defined him.We got into the officeThe quiet in the small office felt heavier than the storm lashing against the windows. I didn't look at him right away. My fingers hovered over the keyboard of my laptop, the blue light casting sharp

The AwakeningLachlan's POVAcross the city, in the dim executive suite of the Vance Group headquarters, I stared at the computer monitors on my desk. My hands pressed flat against the wood, supporting my weight as if my legs might give out.The corporate archives had completed an automated update, cross-referencing legacy family filings with federal registry changes. A notification blinked in the center of the screen, refusing to be dismissed: MARITAL STATUS: ACTIVE. PRIMARY SPOUSE: KIRRILY VANCE.My eyes blurred.Still married? The words echoed through my mind like a physical blow. All these years, I had lived with the ghost of a failed marriage, carrying the guilt of broken vows, believing I had signed away the only real thing in my chaotic life. I remembered the night I signed those papers. The cheap whiskey. The blinding rage. The lies fed to me by senior executives who were now trying to take over my company.I hadn't thrown her away. I had been played, and so had she, by trait

Kirrily's POVThe revelation hung in the air like ozone after a lightning strike."If you and Lachlan had split cleanly, your shared assets would have been exposed in public courts. I knew you were framed. I didn't have proof at the moment of your exile, but I knew the timing was too convenient to be organic.""How?" I asked. "How could you possibly know?""Because I've spent forty years reading people," Bronte said. "And because the evidence against you was too perfect. Too clean. Real corporate espionage leaves loose ends, mistakes, and traces. The dossier Callan presented to Lachlan was flawless. Every account, every transaction, every digital footprint aligned perfectly. That's not how real crimes work. That's how fabricated ones work."I stared at her, stunned. "You suspected Callan from the beginning?""I suspected everyone," Bronte corrected. "Callan. The board members. Even Lachlan's closest advisors. But I couldn't move against them without proof. So I did what I could. I sta
