Fifty-one: Severed

Roy.

We've been moving around in circles and still end up in front of a big empty cave. I’ve gone inside and searched everywhere but there’s no sign of the magical staff or anyone practicing sorcery.

I growl in frustration as we step out of the woods for the umpteenth time and find ourselves in the same spot.

This shit has been happening for hours and I've had it up to here.

“Are you sure this is the location?” I ask Lillith who looks confused as she looks at the map in her hands.

She nods. “I’m sure. The locator is showing that it’s in this cave. Maybe we didn’t look properly.”

My eyebrows crease.

“If it is as powerful as you said it is, do you think the one who had it can leave it behind carelessly?” I question and something snaps in my mind as unease settles within me.

“Wait... last time you said they were trying to stop you from locating it. Don’t you think it’s suspicious that you suddenly found its location? Why was it easy this time around?”

Her eyes widen into
