Celeste walked alongside the beach with no shoes, she carried her shoes in her hands , the moon shone bright and lit up her way. The message on her phone still made her heart race.

> “Come to the sea cave. Your real father is waiting. Come alone.”

She didn’t realize it was true.

But she needed to find out.

She found the cave near the rocks. The entrance was dark and cold. Water dripped from the partitions. The air smelt like ocean and earth.

She stopped a little bit, holding a flashlight. She kept walking a little bit scared.

“Hello?” she called.

No answer.

She walked deeper.

Then she saw someone.

A man stood at the back of the cave. He didn’t move. He just waited.

The man turned slowly.

Her breath caught.

"You have twenty-four hours, Celeste. Bring me the heir documents, or your brother dies."Rylan's voice came through the phone and then nothing. Just dead air. Celeste stared at the phone in her hand. She couldn't move.Damien walked over fast. "We're not doing this.""He has my brother.""It's a trap. You know that."Celeste looked up. "I don't care.""Yes, you do." Damien grabbed her arms. "Think for a second. Rylan gets those documents and he owns everything. Both families. Every person is still breathing.""My brother—""Might be dead already."She shoved him hard. "Get away from me.""Celeste—""I said get away!"He stayed right where he was. Just looked at her with those eyes. The ones she used to trust."Fine," she said. "I'll go by myself."She grabbed her jacket and went for the door. Damien blocked it."Move.""No.""Damien—""I'm coming. Celeste’s head throbbed while she awoke. The room became darkish. Bloodless. Her palms were tied at her back. Metal chair. Concrete ground. It smelled like rust and worry.“You’re wide awake.”That voice. She knew it.Marcus.Her eyes blinked until the dim light took shape. He sat across from her, legs crossed, like this was a kind of recreation. Maybe it was.“Where’s my mother?”“Safe. For now.” He smiled that slow, dirty smile. “Depends on how this talk goes.”Celeste pulled at the ropes, but they didn’t move. Her wrists already burned.“What do you want?”“What I’ve always wanted. What’s mine.” He stood and came closer. “You got to grow up with a name. A family. I got a cell and a number.”“That’s not my fault.”“No. But you’re gonna help me fix it.”He pulled out his phone and showed her a video. Her heart stopped.Aaron. Tied up. His face was covered in blood.“Stop.” Celeste’s voice cracked. “Don’t hurt him.”“Then listen.” Marcus put the phone away. “Rylan’s got papers. Proof

“You fell for it.”Celeste stood at the entrance, palms crossed. Her mom looked up from the table, amazed.“What are you speaking about?” she asked.“The plan I told you yesterday. About the vault in the east wing.” Celeste walked closer, her voice sharp. “I never told anyone else. Only you.”Her mother’s face went pale.“And guess who showed up there with twenty armed men?”Celeste slammed her phone on the table. “Rylan.”Silence stuffed the room. Her mother stood up slowly.“Celeste, I can explain—”“Don’t.” Celeste’s voice was cold. “I trusted you. I thought maybe you really cared about me.”Her mother reached out, but Celeste stepped back.“You sold me out to Rylan,” Celeste said, her chest tightening. “Your own daughter.”“It’s not what you think ,” her mother said, her arms shaking. “He threatened to kill Mila. I had no choice.”“There’s usually a choice.” Celeste’s eyes burned, but she refused to cry. “You selected him over me.”Her mom came across the table. “Everything I’ve do

“It’s me.”Everyone turned. A man stepped into the doorway, light catching his face. The doctor. The one who’d treated Mila. The one who’d been with them for weeks.“You?” Celeste blinked in shock. “You’ve been telling my mother where we are?”“Not the whole time,” he said, voice trembling. “Just the last few days. She found me. She… offered me something I couldn’t refuse.”Damien’s hand slid toward his gun. “What did she offer?”“My daughter,” the doctor whispered. “She had proof my girl is alive. She said she’d give her back. All I had to do was tell her where you were.”“So you sold us out,” Elena said coldly. “For one person?”“For my child,” he said, eyes glassy. “What would you do? Wouldn’t you trade everything for someone you love?”The phrases hit hard. He was right, within the worst possible way. They’d all made desperate selections for humans they cherished.“Get out,” Celeste said quietly. “Now. Before I change my mind about letting you live.”He didn’t wait. He ran—fast an
