ANMELDENThe whole pack hall went totally silent the exact second the word left his mouth.
"Tell your men to drop their weapons before I snap his neck," I repeated my warning to Azriel so everyone in the room could hear me.
Azriel bared his teeth and he stepped forward with his fists clenched tight at his sides.
"You are bluffing because you do not have the guts to kill my captain," Azriel sneered while he pointed a shaking finger at my face.
"Do you really want to test my limits today?" I asked him while I squeezed Julian's throat a little tighter.
Julian gagged and his hands clawed at my thick wrist as he tried to pry my fingers away from his windpipe.
"Put him down right now!" Kailani shrieked from her hiding spot behind the long wooden table.
"Shut your damn mouth, Kailani," Naomi snapped from her safe position right behind my back.
"You cannot just come in here and attack our people, Matteo," Elder Thomas pleaded while he adjusted his glasses with trembling hands.
"Your Alpha ordered an execution on a guest so I am just defending myself," I reminded the old man as I kept my eyes locked on Azriel.
"You are not a guest because you are an unwanted trespasser," Azriel shouted over the terrified whispers of the crowd.
"I am the mate of your former Luna and that gives me the right to stand right here," I told him while I adjusted my stance on the marble floor.
"S-she is a traitor and you are a dead man," Azriel stuttered over his words as his temper got the best of him.
"Stop talking and tell the other three guards to back off," I ordered him again while Julian's face started to turn a pale shade of blue.
"Hit him!" Azriel roared at the remaining three guards instead of calling them off.
"Are you insane?" Naomi yelled at her former husband as the three men tightened their grip on their wooden batons.
"I am the Alpha and I said attack him right fucking now!" Azriel bellowed so loud that the crystal chandelier above us actually rattled.
The second guard let out a war cry and he rushed toward me with his baton raised high in the air.
I did not even bother reaching down to unclip the heavy handgun resting in my thigh holster.
I wanted to send a very clear message to my uncle without using any bullets or blades.
I shifted my weight to my back leg and I used Julian's own body weight against him.
I swung Julian around in a wide arc and I threw him directly into the heavy dining table where Kailani was hiding.
Julian flew through the air and his back slammed hard against the thick oak surface.
The heavy wood shattered loudly upon impact and sharp splinters flew across the marble floor.
Kailani screamed in pure terror as the broken pieces of the table crashed down around her expensive silk dress.
Julian rolled off the broken table and he hit the floor in an unconscious heap.
"Julian!" the second guard yelled as he watched his captain fall to the ground.
The second guard swung his wooden baton directly at my head with everything he had.
I ducked under the swinging weapon and I stepped right inside his guard before he could pull his arm back for another strike.
I curled my right hand into a tight fist and I threw a heavy punch straight into his jaw.
The bone cracked with a sickening snap that echoed off the stone walls of the pack hall.
Bright red blood sprayed from his mouth and hit the pristine marble floor in a messy puddle.
The guard's eyes rolled back into his head and he collapsed right onto the hard stone.
The third and fourth guards stopped dead in their tracks when they saw their friends go down so easily.
They looked at the broken table and then they looked at the blood pooling around the second guard's face.
"Do you two really want to try me?" I asked them as I cracked my knuckles and waited for their next move.
"W-we just want to do our jobs," the third guard stammered while he took a slow step backward.
"Your job is to protect the pack but your Alpha is asking you to die for his bruised ego," I pointed out the obvious truth to them.
"Get up and fight him!" Azriel screamed at the two terrified men as he stomped his foot on the floor.
"Fuck this," the fourth guard muttered under his breath before he dropped his wooden baton and ran toward the broken front doors.
The third guard watched his partner run away and he immediately followed him out of the hall.
The crowd of elders gasped and whispered to each other as Azriel's security force fell apart in less than two minutes.
I reached down and I grabbed the unconscious second guard by the collar of his uniform.
I dragged him across the floor and I tossed him right onto the pile of broken wood next to Julian.
I kicked Julian's limp body out of the way and I dragged both men directly to the spot where Azriel was standing.
I threw the unconscious guards right at my uncle's expensive leather shoes.
Azriel jumped back to avoid the blood and he stared at the defeated men with his mouth hanging wide open.
"Look at your best men, uncle," I taunted him while I crossed my arms over my kevlar vest.
She shook her head and she reached up with a trembling hand to adjust the dark frames of her glasses."I am fine after all you covered me before the glass even reached us," she said with a shaky breath as she looked around the ruined room.I checked the clear lenses of her glasses just to be absolutely sure they didn't catch any flying debris during the sudden explosion. There were no scratches on her lenses and her beautiful face was free of any cuts or bruises."You dropped your gun on the floor," she pointed out as she looked down at the heavy weapon resting near the tip of my combat boots."I needed both of my hands to grab you and pull you out of the way," I answered honestly before I bent down and scooped the handgun off the carpet."I could have ducked on my own, you know," she muttered while she brushed a small piece of shattered glass off the sleeve of her dark shirt."I know you can take care of yourself but you are just going to have to get used to me protecting you," I tol
The loud crash deafened the empty bedroom as thousands of sharp shards erupted inward from the heavy balcony doors.I didn't even waste a single second thinking about my next move before I opened my hand and let my heavy handgun hit the floorboards.I lunged to my left and I wrapped my arm as tight as I could around Naomi's waist to yank her away from the blast zone. She gasped in surprise as I pulled her flush against my chest and I tucked her head right under my chin to shield her delicate face from the flying debris. Her body heat seeped straight through the thick layers of my kevlar vest and it sent a massive jolt of adrenaline all the way down my spine.I squeezed her closer to my body as the broken glass rained down around our boots like a storm of jagged hailstones.I breathed in the sweet scent of rain and cedar radiating off her skin and the smell grounded my racing mind amidst the chaotic noise.Over her shoulder, I watched three of my best Bloodhand enforcers swing right th
I was supposed to stay hiding in the dark walk-in closet among the expensive dresses while the man I just met risked his life for me. I looked down at the heavy canvas duffel bag resting by my feet in the shadows. I spent five long years making myself small so Azriel could feel powerful and I was absolutely done letting other people fight my battles.I dropped the canvas bag onto the floorboards and I walked straight out of the dark closet."Get back inside the closet right now," Matteo ordered me in a low and rough voice without ever taking his eyes off the armed men in the doorway.I ignored his command and I scanned the large master suite for anything I could use to defend us. My eyes landed on the small wooden nightstand positioned right next to the messy bed. I walked over to the table and I wrapped both of my hands firmly around the base of the heavy brass lamp.I planted my boots on the plush rug and I gave the metal stand a hard yank. The thick electrical cord ripped right out
"It holds every single dime this pack owns and I am taking it with me because I earned that money," she declared fiercely as she shoved the device into her duffel bag."Good for you," I praised her as I watched her zip the heavy canvas bag shut and throw the thick strap over her shoulder."We need to move fast because the automated lockdown sequence usually drops the heavy steel shutters over the main exits within five minutes," Naomi explained as she walked toward me."Marcus knows how to override the security panels so we will not get trapped inside the building," I assured her while I checked the loaded magazine in my handgun."You do not understand how Azriel designed this house because he built it like a damn prison to keep his enemies out," she insisted as her breathing picked up its pace."He also built it to keep you trapped inside whenever you made him angry," I guessed the dark truth based on the heavy locks I saw on the bedroom door.Naomi looked away from me and she tighte
The deafening shriek of the lockdown sirens suddenly ripped through the pack hall and made the crystal chandeliers rattle above my head.I kept my heavy knee planted firmly on the back of Azriel's neck while the automated robotic voice announced the perimeter closure over the loudspeakers. The broken oak doors at the front entrance suddenly burst wide open as six of my own Bloodhand enforcers finally stormed into the chaotic room with their weapons drawn. My second-in-command Marcus rushed across the shattered marble floor and he stared down at the massive feral wolf trapped under my boot with wide eyes."Holy shit Matteo, did you actually take down the Alpha without even shifting?" Marcus asked in pure disbelief as he lowered his tactical rifle."I told you he was weak and now you can see it for yourself," I answered him while I pulled my silver blade away from Azriel's bleeding throat."W-what do you want us to do with him because he looks like he wants to bite my face off," another
I heard Matteo issue the command and I did not hesitate for a single second.I turned my back on the massive feral wolf pinned to the marble floor and I started walking toward the main staircase. My heavy combat boots crunched loudly over the shattered pieces of Elder Thomas's broken glasses as I moved across the ruined room. The pack hall looked like a war zone with overturned chairs and large pools of blood staining the white stone floor.I looked down at the ruined oak dining table and I saw Elder David cowering behind a splintered chair leg.David looked up at me with wide eyes and his wrinkled hands shook uncontrollably while he clutched a leather ledger to his chest."N-Naomi, please wait just a damn minute before you do something stupid," David stuttered out as he scrambled to his feet and dusted off his trousers.I stopped walking and I crossed my arms over my chest to look at the old treasurer who sat by and watched my marriage fall apart today."I am going upstairs to pack m
