I was that nineteen-year-old boy who didn't have his life figured out like everyone else seemed to. It wasn't an easy life, but I had no choice but to pull myself together. From the moment my mother left, I planned the path I wanted to follow. Stay by Mira's side until the very end. Work until I had everything settled for her. And earn a scholarship to college to avoid college bills. Nothing about me mattered as long as I had everything figured out for Mira. But why did I suddenly want something for myself for the first time? There was only one thing I wanted to get so bad. And it was the man standing right in front of me. I couldn't understand why, but I knew one thing for sure. I didn't want to stay away from him. I wanted those moments between us to continue. Lorenzo Grayson. I didn't truly know what I wanted from life, but somehow, I knew I wanted him to be part of mine. Was that wrong? “Then get on your knees,Nick,” Enzo said, holding my gaze as my heart pounded so hard that it hurt. I started to go on my knees, but before I could get down, he gripped my hand tightly against the door, stopping me. He let out a breath and slowly released his grip on my hands. He loosened the tie around his neck a little and walked back to his chair, sitting down behind his desk. Why was he backing away? “Enzo…” I started, but he cut me off. “These are the test scripts. Take them with you and leave,” he said, pushing them forward to me. He started to work on the computer in front of him, completely avoiding mine. And somehow, that made my chest tighten even more. “You're just going to act like nothing happened?” I asked but he ignored me. “Enzo,” I called. He removed his glasses before sighing, gently placing his face in his palm. “Nick… please. Just leave right now,” he said without looking up at me. I slowly clenched my fist. My nails pressed into my palm, hoping the small pain would distract me from the ache in my chest. “I'll take my leave, then,” I said quietly. My voice barely came out. I picked up the scripts, unlocked the door and stepped out, only to find Vanya leaning against the wall outside. She rolled her eyes the moment she saw me. My mind immediately started to race. What if Enzo stopped because of Vanya? I knew Enzo couldn't deny the tension between us earlier. I felt it, and I knew he did too. But what if he pulled away because of her? Or maybe because of Professor Douglas? “Why are you everywhere?” Vanya asked, dipping her hands inside her coat. “You're one of the reasons Vadim isn't thinking straight.” She sighed as she walked into the office. I stood there for a moment, thinking about her words. I was one of the reasons Enzo couldn't think straight? I couldn't help but wonder what she meant by that. Before I could think any further, I remembered something Enzo had said about Vanya. It didn't match what she had mentioned to me yesterday at work. “What took you so long?” Avery asked as I walked back into class. She was standing outside, waiting for me to bring the scripts I was supposed to get from Enzo. “Nerd, what took you so long?” voices called out from different corners of the hall. The students shouted and laughed as I walked in, drawing attention to myself. I quickly placed the scripts down. “I’m really sorry. I’ll start handing them out now,” I said nervously into the table microphone. I began calling out names, giving each person their script until there was no more. “I got a C minus,” Avery said, looking through her paper as we walked toward the lawn. “I got an A plus,” I replied. She immediately grabbed my script from my hands and compared it with hers. “What was I expecting?” she said with a small laugh. She sat down on the fresh grass and looked up at me. “You’re that brilliant sophomore nerd everyone knows you as.” I sat down on the grass and dropped my bag beside me. I let out a long sigh as I leaned back a little. My thoughts drifted right back to what happened earlier in Enzo’s office. What was going on between us? Was I really jealous of what Vanya had said yesterday? The thought made me pause. Jealousy only happened when you cared about someone. So why did I feel like this? I shook my head a little. I didn’t like Enzo. I couldn’t. It didn’t feel right. None of this did. Everything between us felt confusing, like I was stepping into something I didn’t understand. But it felt like I couldn't control how I felt whenever he was around. “Nick,” Avery called and I turned to her. “Huh?” She scoffed softly. “What on earth were you thinking about?” she asked and I went quiet, before shaking my head. “You didn't hear me calling you?” she asked again. “Sorry,” I said. “I was just trying to clear my messed up mind.” Avery raised a brow. “What's the matter? Is this…” She paused and let out a small sigh. “Does this have to do with Grayson?” she asked in a low voice and I pressed a hand to my face. “I feel like shit, Avery,” I said, my voice tight like I might break. “I don't even know what's going on with me. I just can't figure it out,” I whispered. A tear slipped down my cheek before I could stop it. What was I even crying for? I didn't even understand why I felt so sad. “Nick, what's going on?” she asked quickly, her voice full of worry, and hugged me tight. “Everything will be fine, Nick. We'll figure out your messed mind together,” she said softly, trying to calm me down. For the first time, I felt scared of something I couldn't even explain.NICK WALKER ©After my conversation with Mr. Kyle that day, I still couldn't get hold of Enzo for another three days.Mr. Kyle wasn't letting me see him because his men kept stopping me. Even when he left his office, one thing or another always stopped me from getting to him.My head was a mess. Back at home, I had planned a small outing for Mira and Mom without telling either of them. But it turned into a failure, just like I expected.Mira and I had a fight before I left home for work.Enzo still wasn't replying to my messages.I pressed my lips together and stared at the entrance of the bar."What's got you thinking?" Shawn asked as he stood in front of the counter."Ah. Nothing, really," I said with a forced smile.I suddenly spotted Mr. Kyle leaving his office upstairs with his men. I quickly grabbed my phone."Where are you going?" Shawn asked as I left my station.“Uh, the bathroom. Cover for me for a while,” I told him before walking outside. Before I could get to him, his men
NICK WALKER ©The exams were over, and the holiday had finally started. But I hadn't been able to reach Enzo for the past three days.He hadn't come to my house, and I hadn't seen him at work either. He wasn't replying to my texts or answering my calls.I couldn't stop worrying.I just wanted to know if he was okay. Was he sick?“Aren't you going to eat?” Avery asked as we sat down for lunch.I sighed as I stared at the food in front of me.“If you're not going to eat it, give it to me,” Avery said, pulling my plate toward herself.Seriously? Before she could take another bite, Mira smacked the back of Avery's hand with her spoon and pulled the plate back to me.“Ow! That hurt.”“Mira, apologize,” I said quickly as I took Avery's hand to check it.“How did you even choose her as your friend?” Mira asked, shaking her head as she continued eating.“He wasn't eating. You didn't have to be so harsh,” Avery said, rubbing the spot where Mira had hit her.“Well... sorry,” Mira mumbled.Avery
LORENZO GRAYSON \ VADIM KERZHAKOV ©My phone had been ringing nonstop the entire drive home. It was still ringing when I walked through the front door. I tossed it across the spacious living room and headed upstairs.I grabbed a travel bag and opened the drawer to get my passport. Then I looked at my reflection before sliding the mirror aside, revealing the weapons hidden behind it.I picked a few of them and reached for my phone again. I'd already sent Kyle a message, asking him to book me a flight back to Russia.I rushed back downstairs and searched for the phone I'd thrown across the living room.“Where the fuck is it?” I yelled as I searched the lounge and the kitchen connected to it.Just then, I heard a car screech to a stop outside the house. It was Kyle.I grabbed my bag and hurried to his car.“The ticket?” I asked as I walked up to him.“What's going on?” he asked.I ran a hand through my hair and let out a frustrated sigh.“Kyle, I fucking need the ticket.”“Not until you

I could wait.“ She said.“You should go. It'll take a while.“ I said.I clenched my hands on the device in my palm as I headed to the office.I needed to know what was on the drive.I unlocked the door, walked over to my laptop, and plugged it in.I searched through the files and found only one video.I clicked play.“Move it,” someone said from the video. It looked like an underground room, with several men standing around. Then I saw my mother.I furrowed my brows and paused the video. Why was Mom in the video?I pressed play and kept watching as they dragged her by the arms while she tried to break free. Then it hit me.This was connected to the day she died. She was wearing the same clothes she had on when they found her body. They threw her onto the floor, and my breath caught in my thr
LORENZO GRAYSON \ VADIM KERZHAKOV©The moment I realized what had happened at the college last night, my thoughts went straight to my father.Antonio must never find out about this. The college was large and prestigious. If the video leaked, it would spread fast. Thinking about the footage of Nick and I made me wonder if Antonio already knew.Nick had to stay safe.I promised I would protect him, and I had no intention of breaking that promise.Kyle found out about the situation before reaching out to me. Then Professor Douglas, Alina, called me when the video started spreading around the college.I found someone who hacked the college account and got the video taken down, though it took some time.I handled the college board the same way I did when I first came here to work as a professor.Somehow, my thoughts drifted back to Nick once more, and I let out a quiet sigh.If Father had already found out about him, I had to move fast. There was still so much to do, especially finding the
NICK WALKER ©After I got Avery's message, I couldn't think straight. I switched off my phone because the school group chats wouldn't stop flooding my screen.I didn't think Enzo knew about the situation while we were still at the bar.I acted like everything was normal while we talked. He asked what was wrong on the drive home, but I couldn't tell him. This could ruin Enzo's role in College. What would happen if Enzo lost his job because of me?As soon as he stopped in front of my house, his phone rang.I was sure it was someone calling about the situation. This was all my fault.“Do you want me to take you to my place instead?” he asked, ignoring the call.“What will happen to us if everyone finds out?” I asked quietly. He reached over, smoothed my hair, and pressed a soft kiss to my lips.“Does it matter?” he asked.“Huh?“His phone rang again. He switched his phone to airplane mode and looked back at me.“The only thing that matters is you. As long as we're together, nothing else
