Flora’s POV

The sun’s barely kissed the sky when I arrive at work the next morning. The office is quiet, the air crisp with early morning stillness. It feels like the only time I can breathe without someone watching, without questions, without expectations.

I press my thumb against the scanner and push the glass doors open, stepping into the polished, cold space that is my temporary sanctuary. The receptionist gives me a polite nod. I don’t respond. I’m not in the mood for pleasantries. I head straight for my office.

As soon as I settle behind my desk, I bury myself in the pile of documents waiting. Contracts. Letters. Legal memos. My pen glides over them, but my mind doesn’t follow. Not entirely.

I pause, exhale deeply, and glance up at the flat screen TV mounted on the wall opposite my desk. It flickers to life—breaking news flashing across the screen.

“—with the primaries approaching, tension builds among the top candidates vying for the party’s flag bearer. Senator Boris has

STANLEY’S POV The police station was dimly lit, with a sense of urgency in the air. I sat across Officer Collins answering questions about the investigation of the death of my mum “Are you certain the scarf we obtained belongs to Flora?” I nodded “Yes, I’m positive. I’ve known Flora for years. That scarf is hers.” Officer Collins made a note on his pad. “We’ll look into it, Mr Stanley. But can you tell me more about your relationship with Flora” Hesitantly and unsure of how much to reveal “We used to be couples before. A legal one but things ended badly between us and we had to divorce each other” “I’ve moved on, but I guess she hasn’t” I lied “And if I may ask, what was the reason for the divorce” Officer Collins asked “The divorce was due to the pressure from the press, the stakeholders at my company, and my family as regards the paternity of our child. Aurora” I sighed Officer Collins's eyes narrowed “Well, we will definitely consider that in our investigation” After we s

STANLEY’S POV I pulled Jessica closer and danced rhythmically to the note played for the bridal dance. Our movement synchronized, our body swaying in time with the melody. I stared at Jessica’s eyes and all I could see was Flora’s eyeball and for a moment I was lost in deep thought of this same dance I had with Flora during our wedding. The sparkle in her eyes, her laughter, the way we danced like one soul in two bodies. The memory hit me like a storm. I blinked hard, trying to anchor myself back to the present but the past wouldn’t let go. We danced for a while even though I wasn’t completely oriented and just before the end of the bridal dance, I heard Chloe’s screaming my name as she rushed downstairs “STANLEY!!!!” That’s very unusual of her, I thought. My hands slipped from Jessica’s waist as rushed closer to where she was “Calm down Chloe, what’s wrong, and why the noise” Still panting and shaking, she replied “Mum’s… Mum’s dead, Stanley. Someone killed her” My blood ra

JESSICA’S POV As the music began to play, I gently nestled my arm under my father’s and together we took the first step down the aisle. The room fell into a hushed silence with all eyes on me, and I scanned through the entire guests recognizing some prominent dignitaries, smiled at familiar faces and friends in the crowd and acknowledged the presence of other guests I couldn’t recognize. I felt a mix of emotions, excitement, joy and a deep sense of fulfillment. Well I deserved it all, it’s all because of my effort and handwork that’s why this event is being held today. There was a hint of nervousness but as I gazed at my beloved Stanley waiting at the altar, suit crisp, my heart swelled with love and my confidence grew. This has to be the happiest day of my life, I would soon be pronounced as Mrs Davis and finally I would be untouchable. Irrevocable. The pastor stepped forward before Stanley and I, a warm smile on his face and he began “Dearly beloved, as we are gathered here in t

FLORA’S POVI stood at the front of the mirror in my room, almost dressed up in a white gown making sure every detail is perfect but simple. “You sure you really want to do this Flora?” my mum asked while seated at the edge of my bed with Aurora on her lapsI sighed with a deep breath before answering “Nothing personal mum, just want to wish them well. Moreover my boss would be there” “What about you?” She asked I didn’t give a response and my mum knows better than to push further. I put on my accessories to fit in with my dress while my mind was still focused and bothered about the occasion. “I still don’t understand why Senator Jones insisted that I go to this wedding” my mind reeled I bid my mum farewell and made my way to the car outside and entered only to meet the man wearing a mask that covers the upper half of his face beside me. Realization kicked in and I remembered Senator Jones instructed that he follow me. Hated this idea because it would only attract attention to

Jessica's POVI slide into the backseat of the black SUV, my fingers drumming against my purse as I glance at the man sitting beside me. He’s wearing a hoodie, face partially hidden, but I can feel the smugness radiating off him. He doesn’t speak right away. Instead, he reaches into his jacket and pulls out a silk scarf.Flora’s scarf.I recognize it immediately,cream-colored with pale blue embroidery at the edge. I’ve seen her wear it countless times, even back when we were fake-friendly. My eyes narrow.“Where did you get this?”The man chuckles. “Tipped a worker in her house. Apparently, she drops things all the time. They thought it was trash. But I know better.”I take the scarf from him and run my fingers across the delicate fabric. “This could be useful. You’ve done well.”He nods. “Let me know when you want to use it. Fabric like that, easy to place somewhere incriminating.”I smile faintly, slipping it into my purse. “Oh, don’t worry. I know exactly where it’ll go.”My phon

Flora's POVI sit at the dining table, absently swirling a spoon in my tea. The warmth of the mug doesn’t reach my fingers. I’ve just gotten off the phone with Senator Jones, and my skin is still crawling.Mirabel’s in the hospital. A car crash. It’s all over the news—breaking headlines flashing across every screen. They say she might not make it.Across from me, my mom is feeding Aurora, gently spooning mashed fruit into her mouth. Aurora giggles, splattering it onto her chin. Normally, I’d laugh and wipe her face. But this morning, I can barely smile.“Wicked people,” my mom mutters under her breath, eyes glued to the screen. “Whoever did this to that woman, may fire chase them.”I glance at her. Her face is stern, drawn in disapproval. She doesn’t know half of it. And I don’t know how to begin explaining any of it.“I’m going to get dressed,” I say, pushing my untouched breakfast aside. She doesn’t ask questions. Thank God.I head upstairs and pull on a soft blue dress, nothing
