Samantha’s POV

We both took a breath and let go of each other’s hands. There was nothing more to add. Nothing that would change the director’s impending reaction.

The silence that followed was thick enough to choke on.

The director stepped forward with a look that belonged in a museum titled: For Exhibit Only, Do Not Emotionally Engage.

“Is that it?”

His voice echoed louder than the performance we had just forced ourselves to give. He stared at us like we had personally insulted his ancestors.

I kept my face perfectly still. I refused to show even a flicker of the frustration building in my chest.

This was not our fault. We told him we needed time. We told him we were not prepared. We had just stepped off a hellish flight. But he was the kind of man who believed pressure created diamonds. In reality, he created disasters.

The director looked us both up and down slowly, judging every inch.

“This is what the USA team brings? This is the top list performance? I expected more. Much more

Isaac’s POV I knew dirty hands when I saw them. I had dealt with enough corrupt board members, fake sponsors, and greedy executives in my lifetime to recognize the smell of misconduct even before the evidence arrived. These people thought no one would notice. They thought the chaos would be dismissed as a simple oversight. They thought they were dealing with people who would shake it off and move on. They were wrong. Painfully wrong. And they had just made the mistake of attracting my attention. This time, I was not turning a blind eye. This time, I was going to drag every cockroach into the light and make sure they never crawled back into the shadows again.“Thirty minutes may not be enou…”“It is enough,” I said sharply. My voice did not rise, but it cut like a blade. “This is not a suggestion. Someone is lying. Someone is siphoning. Someone thinks they can line their pockets and treat my athletes like garbage. I want every number exposed. Every misuse dragged into daylight.”“Ye

Isaac’s POV I knew it was only going to take little for Anthony to burst out. He had been holding back his irritation and anger at the airport before departure. Anthony had a short fuse and had little tolerance for rubbish and insults. If he felt he was being cornered, he would reply accordingly. So I wasn’t surprised there.“Oh he is pissed,” Cole added. “The man called me five minutes later. Claims Anthony disrespected him and that he is considering pulling them off the lineup. That is how I found out about all of this.”I pressed a hand to my forehead, torn between rage, exhaustion, and a petty kind of satisfaction. “So he insulted them first, forced a dangerous performance, provided no equipment, then gets offended when the athlete he endangers talks back. Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. This entire event sounds like a clown festival.”Cole snorted. “You have no idea.”My jaw tightened as I resumed walking through the terminal. The director picking a fight with Anthony was reck

ISAAC’S POVThe moment the airplane wheels touched the runway, I powered my phone back on. Everything about the plane ride was so shitty. It had been a long time since I flew economy class, and the experience reminded me exactly why I avoided it. The cramped seats, the crying toddler two rows behind me, the stale air that felt like it had not been refreshed in hours, and the food that tasted like cardboard all blended into one terrible reminder that I should have made a different choice. I kept thinking about Jaden at home, probably sitting on the living room floor with his toys or asking his grandmother for snacks he did not need. If I had stayed back, I would have been with him, hearing his little voice, not stuck between two strangers who kept bumping into me every time they shifted. Maybe I should have sent another assistant in my place. Maybe I should have chosen comfort over supervision. The thought made me wonder how Anthony and Samantha’s flight had gone, because if mine

Anthony’s POVCole continued, clearly pacing. “I have been in the meeting with the event chairs. They are understaffed, stressed, and frankly incompetent. I am trying to keep things from falling apart. Isaac should be landing in about an hour. Once he gets here, he will take charge of everything. He already told me to make sure you two rest.”I let out a short, humorless laugh. “Rest? In a single room? With one key? After skating blind in front of a man who thinks he invented pressure?”Cole exhaled sharply, and I imagined him rubbing the bridge of his nose. “I know. I know. I am pissed too. But please. Just go upstairs. Try to rest. Things will be corrected by tomorrow morning. The organizers owe us. Isaac will handle it.”I pressed my tongue against my teeth. “Cole, we did not even have training gear. No one informed us. The director tore into us like we were preschoolers learning how to glide.”“I heard,” he said. His tone darkened. “And trust me, I already told the board. It will

Anthony’s POVBy the time we reached the hotel, I felt like my legs were filled with sand. The lobby smelled like citrus and clean linen. Warm lights glowed across the marble floor. Despite that comforting atmosphere, all I wanted was a bed, a shower, and ten hours of sleep.I dragged myself to the reception desk, shoulders heavy and eyes burning from everything that had gone wrong today. Samantha hovered beside me, just as exhausted but still managing to look more composed than I felt. The receptionist looked up with a bright, overly cheerful smile, the kind that felt almost painful to look at after the day we had.“Bonsoir. Welcome to Hotel Du Lys. How may I assist you?”I cleared my throat and tried to straighten my posture. “Reservations for Anthony Vale and Samantha Meadows.”She typed for a moment, nails clicking against the keyboard. “Yes, here you are,” she said, still smiling as though nothing in the world could possibly be wrong. “You must be Anthony and Samantha. Here is y

Anthony’s POVI was still fuming when we stepped outside the event center and realized there was no van, no car, no ride waiting for us. The entire place had emptied out so fast it looked like the building had spat everyone out and slammed the doors behind them. Samantha glanced around too, rubbing her arms as the Paris evening breeze brushed against us.I took a breath, checked my phone, and groaned the second the notification popped up. Of course Cole had texted. Of course it was bad news. I turned the screen toward the nearest light and read it twice just to confirm I was not hallucinating from exhaustion.Running late. Still in the meeting. You two should walk. Hotel is only a twelve minute walk from the center.I stared at the message, letting the irritation sink slowly under my skin like heat from a stove. Then I turned the screen toward Samantha.“Look at this. Look at what this genius just sent.”She leaned in, squinting at the phone. “Oh.”“Oh?” I muttered, sliding the phon
