Ariana's POV

The cave erupted.

"That's a lie!" Celeste shouted.

"It isn't," Darius fired back. "I saw you."

Kael stepped between them before either could move.

"Enough."

His voice wasn't loud, but it carried through the chamber.

"No one draws another weapon until I know who's telling the truth."

Darius didn't lower his sword.

"I served Ariana's father for fifteen years. I know what I saw."

Celeste's breathing became uneven.

"And what did you see?"

"I saw you unlock the palace gates."

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    The Hidden Passage

Ariana's POVNo one moved. The voice had come from inside the wall.Soft.Young.Scared....Is Princess Ariana still alive?Kael raised his hand, stopping the guards before they rushed into the passage."Who's there?" he called. For a few seconds, there was no answer. Then the voice came again."I... I won't come out until I know she's alive."It was a boy.He couldn't have been older than fifteen.Rowan lit a torch and handed it to Kael."I'll go first.""I'm coming with you," I said."No.""Yes."Kael looked at me for a moment, then gave up arguing."Stay behind me."The hidden passage was narrow and smelled of damp stone. It looked as though no one had used it in years. The walls were covered with dust.Cobwebs stretched from one side to the other. The voice came again."Please...""I don't have much time."We followed the tunnel until it opened into a small underground room.A boy stood in the corner. His clothes were dirty, and one sleeve was stained with blood. He held a knife i

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    The Letter

Ariana's POVNo one touched the letter. It lay on the floor where the woman had left it.The smoke was gone, but its sharp smell still hung in the room.A guard stepped forward."I'll check it."Cassian stopped him."Wait."He crouched beside the envelope without picking it up."There could be poison.""Or a hidden blade."He slid his dagger under the edge and carefully lifted it.Nothing happened. He turned it over. The wax seal carried the same white raven we had seen before.Cassian looked at Kael."It seems clean."Kael nodded."Give it to Ariana."The envelope felt heavier than it looked. My name was written across the front in neat handwriting. Not rushed. Not angry.Almost... polite.I broke the seal.Inside was a single sheet of paper.I unfolded it slowly. The handwriting matched the name on the envelope.I began to read.---Princess Ariana,If this letter has reached you, then my messenger has done her job.You probably think I'm your enemy.Perhaps I am.But enemies can st

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    The First Move

Ariana's POVKael picked up the white chess queen. He turned it over in his hand.It was carved from ivory, smooth with age. Someone had taken good care of it.This wasn't something a kidnapper had grabbed by chance. It had been left there on purpose."Does it mean anything?" I asked. No one answered.Lord Blackwood stepped forward slowly. His eyes never left the chess piece."It means he's finished waiting."Cassian frowned."You know who we're dealing with."Lord Blackwood gave a tired nod."I hoped I was wrong.""But I know this game."Kael looked at him."Start talking."The old man drew a long breath before speaking."Years ago, before Rowan was born, there was a man who loved chess more than war.""He believed battles were won long before soldiers crossed a battlefield.""He didn't attack castles.""He attacked minds."Lucien folded his arms."Who was he?"Lord Blackwood's voice dropped."His name was Victor Ashmore."The name meant nothing to me.But around the room...Everyone

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    The Wrong Princess

Ariana's POVNobody spoke.Kael read the note again before handing it to me.I read the five words slowly. You're protecting the wrong princess. It didn't make sense.I looked up."What's that supposed to mean?"No one answered.Rowan took the note from my hand."It's another trick.""They've been trying to confuse us from the beginning."Cassian didn't look convinced."Maybe.""But every lie they've told has been wrapped around a piece of truth."The room became quiet again.I hated that he was right. The servant had escaped. The fake messenger had escaped. The girl pretending to be a maid had escaped.Every time we got close...Someone slipped through our fingers.Kael folded the note and placed it on the table."We're done reacting.""We start asking questions."He looked around the room."Who knew Ariana was coming to Shadowcrest?"Lucien answered first."I did.""So did Rowan.""Miriam.""Cassian.""Darius."Kael nodded."And who knew about the cave?""The same people.""What abo

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    Wearing The King's Face

Ariana's POVThe room erupted with questions."That's impossible.""Who had access to the seal?""Did anyone see the person?"The guard looked from one face to another, clearly overwhelmed."I only know what the prison commander told me."Kael raised a hand. The room quieted."Start from the beginning."The guard took a deep breath."Just before sunset, a rider arrived at the eastern prison with a written order carrying the royal seal.""The commander checked it twice.""He said everything looked genuine.""So he opened the gates.""And the prisoners walked out.""How many?" Kael asked."Twenty-three."My stomach sank.Twenty-three criminals had just disappeared into a kingdom already under attack."What kind of prisoners?" Cassian asked."Murderers. Smugglers. Mercenaries."The guard hesitated."And...""And what?""The former captain of the royal scouts."Lucien's head snapped up."Harlan?""Yes, my lord."Lucien cursed under his breath."He should never have been released."I looke

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    A Father Returns

"...Father?"The old man's lips curved into a tired smile."I was beginning to think you wouldn't recognize me."The ring slipped from Rowan's fingers and landed on the table with a soft clink. He took one slow step forward. Then another. His breathing became uneven."You..."His voice broke."I buried an empty coffin."The old man lowered his head."I know.""I stood there while they told me you died.""I know.""I spent twenty years believing I was the last Blackwood."The old man's eyes filled with regret."I never wanted that for you."Rowan suddenly grabbed the front of the old man's coat."Then why?"His voice cracked."Why didn't you come back?""I searched for you!""I searched every village, every battlefield, every prison!"He shook the old man once."Do you know how many bodies I turned over hoping one of them wasn't yours?"The room remained silent. No one interrupted. The old man let Rowan vent every year of anger he had carried. Finally, he answered."Because if anyone k
