“Noah?” my mom’s voice called through the door. “Can I come in?”

I shut my eyes and took a deep breath. Even though I wanted to be alone as of the moment, I still opened the door for her. Besides, I needed to tell her that Kayden had agreed to come on the trip. It’s the day after tomorrow. If he ever backs out because of what had happened to us earlier, he will only prove he can’t keep his word.

“Come in,” I mumbled.

I went back to my bed and sat down. When I looked at her, she was already frowning, concern written all over her face.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah. Just a bit tired from work,” I lied.

She let out a deep sigh, as if she already knew the real reason I wasn’t in the mood.

“You and Kayden fought again, didn’t you?”

I didn’t respond.

She sat at the edge of my bed, clearly not wanting to push me, but also unable to just leave it alone.

“Maria told me you came home really upset. I saw you storm out of his office, so I followed you here.”

Good thing his office is soundproof.
