CHAPTER 53

Clara’s POV

I stayed in bed the whole morning.

Not because I wanted to be dramatic. I just didn’t trust my body yet. Every time I tried to sit up too fast, my head reminded me that fainting wasn’t exactly normal behavior.

The room was quiet. Too quiet.

Spencer had been in the living room earlier. I once heard him on the phone, his voice low and controlled, as always. Now it was silent again.

I reached for my laptop slowly and opened it.

The same document stared back at me.

Derrick.

CHAPTER 95Lin Woo’s POVSomething changed after Esteban came back from the hospital. At first, I thought I was imagining it.Because Esteban doesn’t change.Esteban doesn’t suddenly act differently.Esteban doesn’t suddenly become… anything. He just exists the same way all the time. Calm. Quiet. Dangerous. Unreadable. But something was different. He stood closer to me now.Not obviously. Not enough for other people to notice. But I noticed.Like when we were in the living room, and Spencer was talking about some shipment problem, Esteban was standing next to the couch. There was plenty of space in the room, plenty of places he could stand, but he stood next to me. Not touching. Not even looking at me.Just… there.Close enough that if I moved my arm slightly, I would touch him.And the weird thing was, he stayed there. For a long time.Another time, we were all at the table eating, and when I got up to get water, he moved his chair slightly so there was space when I came back, as he

CHAPTER 94Esteban’s POVI was released from the hospital a week later. The ribs still hurt.Breathing still hurts.Moving still hurts. But I could function again. That was enough.Pain wasn’t new to me. It wasn’t something I feared or avoided. It was something I measured. Controlled. Ignored when necessary. As long as I could stand, walk, and fight if I had to, then nothing else really mattered. The doctor had said something about “rest,” “recovery time,” and “avoiding physical strain.”I didn’t listen to most of it.Spencer handled the discharge. Signed whatever needed to be signed, spoke to the staff, and made sure everything was cleared. I stayed quiet, standing there, waiting. Hospitals were not places I liked staying in longer than necessary. Too clean. Too slow. Too many eyes watching. When we finally left, the air outside felt different.Sharper.Real.I got into the car without a word, adjusting slightly in the seat when the pain flared in my side. Spencer noticed. He alw

CHAPTER 93Spencer’s POVWhile Esteban was in the hospital and Lin Woo was dealing with whatever emotional confusion he had going on, I was handling things that didn’t pause for anyone.Because in this world, nothing waits. Not injuries. Not emotions. Not loyalty.Especially not enemies. The problems didn’t come loudly. They never did. They came quietly. Annoyingly. Constantly.A shipment that was supposed to arrive three days ago was suddenly “delayed” with no clear reason. Another one was stuck at the port because of paperwork that had never been an issue before. One of my men called to say a route we’d been using for months was suddenly blocked by some new group claiming ownership. Not a takeover. Not a war.Just… interference.Small things. But small things add up.And when they pile up like that, it’s never random. It means someone is testing you.Pushing.Waiting to see how you respond.I sat in my office, going through reports that kept getting worse the longer I read them. My

CHAPTER 92 Lin Woo’s POVI think I’m in love with Esteban.Which is stupid.Very stupid.Extremely stupid.Like… if stupidity were a competition, I would win first place, collect my trophy, and still keep going.Because Esteban is not the kind of person people fall in love with. He’s the kind of person people warn you about. The kind of person mothers would drag their children away from if they saw him standing too still in one place. The kind of person who doesn’t even have to speak to make a room uncomfortable. The kind of person who feels dangerous just by existing. He barely talks. And when he does, it’s always short, direct, like he’s allergic to unnecessary words. He looks like he could kill someone just by staring at them too long. And the crazy part is… he actually has. That’s not even a guess. That’s not imagination. That’s just a fact.He doesn’t smile. I’ve seen him almost smile once, and even that felt like spotting a rare animal in the wild. It wasn’t soft or warm eithe

CHAPTER 91Esteban's POVAfter I touched his hand, nothing was normal anymore. The problem was… nothing had actually happened. We didn’t talk about it.He didn’t mention it.I didn’t mention it.But something had changed, and we both knew it.Lin Woo still came to the hospital almost every day. Sometimes with Clara. Sometimes with Spencer. Sometimes alone. I learned the sound of his footsteps before I even realized I was listening for them. I could tell when it was him in the hallway just from the rhythm, lighter, faster, slightly uneven, like he was always in a hurry but didn’t want to look like he was running. When he came into the room, he always acted normal. Too normal. He would talk about random things, Clara, something he saw outside, something Spencer said, something on his phone, but when we were alone, he talked less than before. Not because he was uncomfortable.Because the silence between us had changed. It wasn’t empty anymore. It wasn’t awkward either. It felt… heavy li

CHAPTER 90Spencer’s POVA few days later, Esteban was still in the hospital. He hated it.I could tell the second I walked into his room that morning. He was sitting up against the bed, arms crossed carefully over his chest, jaw tight, staring at absolutely nothing, as the walls had personally offended him.Hospitals and Esteban did not mix.“You look miserable,” I said, walking in.“I am,” he replied flatly.“Good,” I nodded. “That means you’re healing.”He gave me a look that said if he could get up properly, I’d be in danger. Before I could say anything else, there was a knock on the door.I already knew who it was.Clara walked in first, followed by Lin Woo.The moment they stepped inside, I saw that tiny shift in Esteban’s expression. Most people wouldn’t notice it, but I did. His shoulders straightened slightly, his eyes flickered for a second, then went back to that usual calm, unreadable look.Lin Woo waved lightly. “Hi.”Esteban gave a small nod. “You’re here.”That was hi

CHAPTER 85Lin Woo's POVHis fist connected with the first guy’s face so hard I heard the crack before I even saw the man drop. The second guy barely had time to react before Esteban grabbed him by the collar and slammed him straight into the wall.Hard.The guy’s head hit the concrete with a dull

CHAPTER 84 Lin Woo’s POVThe door was already open. Not wide, just slightly pushed, like whoever left last didn’t bother locking it properly, or maybe they were too confident we wouldn’t be able to do anything anyway.Either way, that small gap was the only reason we were even having this chance.

CHAPTER 83Lin Woo's POVEsteban grabbed the man by the hair and slammed his face into the concrete floor. The sound was sickening.A wet crack.Blood splattered across the floor instantly. The man screamed once, but Esteban didn’t stop.He slammed his face down again. And again. And again. Each ti

CHAPTER 82Spencer’s POVI knew something was wrong the moment we stepped into the apartment. The door wasn’t forced open, but the lock had a scratch mark near the keyhole, small but visible if you were looking for it. The living room looked normal at first glance, but I wasn’t fooled. A chair was
