Laura’s POV

My mind screamed at me to just walk away but before I could turn around and disappear into the dark hallway, Vanessa’s eyes flicked over to the doorway.

Her lips curved into a slow, satisfied smirk.

"Laura!" Vanessa called out smoothly. She dropped her arms from around Damian’s shoulders.

She took her sweet time stepping back, smoothing down the front of her wine-red dress like she owned the room. "Don't just stand there. Come in."

My mind told me to go back, kicking strongly again

"You won't be needing that for the next week," he said softly, his dark eyes locking onto mine with an unreadable, suffocating intensity. “Rest up, Laura. We have a lot to settle."Before I could reach the threshold, he pulled the heavy door shut. The lock clicked into place with a final, echoing thud.I stormed straight to the door and slammed both palms against it until my hands stung."Damian! Open this damn door right now! You cannot keep me locked in here!" I shouted, my voice could be clearly heard miles away but there was no response.I waited, leaning close and straining my ears against the surface of the door, but there was nothing, not a single footstep, just total silence from the hallway outside."Unbelievable," I muttered, rolling my eyes and letting my arms drop to my sides. What was this man trying to do?Realizing my strength was far better spent elsewhere, I turned on my heel and scanned the master bedroom. It seems Damian used the penthouse as a cage, but if he thoug

  • SWEETLY DANGEROUS    Chapter 35

Laura's POV.I stared out the passenger window, my arms crossed tightly over my chest. I swallowed my anger, and sat stiffly beside Damian, taking in his scent. The silence inside the car was suffocating. I had spent the first ten minutes of the drive demanding to know where we were going, but he sat there, concentrating on his driving, his hands clenched on the steering wheel.I stared at him, low-key admiring his facial features and his body physique. This man was very good looking, but now was not the time to admire him, he was pissing me off.Damian hadn't even blinked. His hand remained steady around the steering wheel, his jaw set in a hard line, his eyes fixed strictly on the road ahead of him.“Where are we going?” I asked again and I received no answer from him. It felt like no one was sitting beside him and asking a question.Eventually, my pride kicked in. I stopped asking. I snapped my mouth shut, turned my back toward him, and let the quiet heavy air settle between us.He

  • SWEETLY DANGEROUS    Chapter 34

Brenda's POV.I was walking towards my car in the parking lot, I was still annoyed about the just concluded meeting but I was grateful it was over for at least a long time. The leather handle of my bag was pressing harshly against my palm as I held it tight, but I didn’t care. I needed to get out of here. I needed to get in my car, blast the AC, and drive until the lingering image of Richard’s smug, unbothered face vanished from my head.My phone buzzed in my hand, the screen glowing with a call from Maggi. I pressed it to my ear, looking for my car keys in my bag."Please tell me you’re done with those insufferable meetings. Logan is hosting an end of semester party, will you be there?” Maggi asked.“No!” My answer was sharp. I was still fumbling for my key.“Why do you sound like you want to murder someone?” She asked."I do want to murder someone," I muttered, pacing toward my driver's side. My brain was still replaying the way he’d corrected my numbers, that maddening, polite un

  • SWEETLY DANGEROUS    Chapter 33

Brenda's POV.I was in a happy mood today, not just because I got my allowance and extra, I was wearing the shoes Vanessa sent to me, and it made me the centre of attraction wherever I walked in, and the semester is coming to an end. But, walking into this meeting room, my mood had dwindled."I don’t like him," I thought, aggressively tapping my pen against my notebook to keep from rolling my eyes in irritation. This was one of the boring aspects of my life, being a part of my class leaders for my department. I was the secretary. I became that because of my dad.I leaned back in my chair and looked at the empty seat next to me. Laura's chair. I pulled out my phone under the table and checked our chat again. Nothing. No messages, no calls, not even a quick excuse about being late. It was unusual for her to skip a mandatory wrap-up meeting, but I pushed the thought aside. She was probably just sleeping in or avoiding the heat. I had enough problems sitting right across from me."Next

  • SWEETLY DANGEROUS    Chapter 32

Laura's POV.Morning light crept through the thin blinds of my living room, I blinked in confusion, wondering when I finally fell asleep.I sat up at the edge of the bed, fully dressed in the same clothes from yesterday, staring at my bedroom door. The dark, spiteful fire that had driven me to call Stephen last night had settled into a quiet, icy stillness. The bathroom door opened, and Stephen stepped out. He looked at me, his eyes searching my face, trying to read the unreadable expression I wore. He didn't look like a man who had won; he looked like he was trying to fix a puzzle or fathom what I was doing."Are you just going to sit there?" Stephen asked, taking a slow step toward me. He sounded hesitant, and a little bit annoyed, his usual cocky arrogance shaken by the wall I had put up since the moment he walked inside my apartment."You need to leave, why are you still here?" I said flatly.Stephen frowned, a flash of annoyance crossing his features. "Laura, come on. You called

  • SWEETLY DANGEROUS    Chapter 31

Laura's POV.The sharp chiming of the doorbell rang through my quiet apartment. I walked over to the front door and leaned looking through the small glass peephole. My heart dropped into my stomach when I recognized the tall silhouette of one of Damian’s bodyguards standing out in the hallway.Taking a steadying breath, I unlocked the door and opened it slowly."The boss wants to see you," he said, his face completely blank.Shock hit me all at once. Damian is here? Right now? I didn't say a word, just stepped out and followed him down into the damp air. The weather was very cold, feeling like it could burst into rain at any time. The bodyguard pulled open the back door of the sleek black car. I climbed in, and the scent of Damian's expensive cologne immediately wrapped around me. Damian was sitting there in the dark, his tall frame filling the space, jaw tight and eyes cold. Oh God! I could sense the simmering tension lying underneath. Before the car door even clicked shut, his voice
