Chapter 4

Author: Peach Iced Tea
Mom and the others exchanged confused glances upon hearing my name.

"Did you get the name wrong? Cam should be the one who's the national top scorer," Cassandra chimed in.

"You're definitely asking for the wrong person. Clay didn't even take his exams. Why are you looking for him? Check the scores! Once you check the scores, you'll know that Cam's the top scorer."

"I don't think that's a good idea," Camden said. "He didn't take the exams. He'll definitely get upset when they check the scores and find out that my score is so much higher than his."

He then looked up at me, fixing a faux-concerned expression on his face.

Mom didn't think it was a bad idea at all. "It's fine! Clay is strong mentally. Check the scores right now. I want everyone to know how amazing you are, Cam."

My heart had become numb a long time ago. After all, I couldn't even keep track of how many times I had been used as an example anymore.

Ever since Mom and the others set their plan of dragging me down into motion, my alarm was turned off, and I was abandoned on the way to school. They did everything they could to get in my way and ensure that I would get dismal results.

They didn't think that they did anything wrong, treating their actions as jokes just to comfort Camden every time.

"Look! Clay's results are worse than yours this time."

"You're the smartest one in the family, Cam. You immediately left Clay in the dust right after your mood got better."

They never once cared if their actions or words hurt me. In fact, the same thing was happening at that moment. They were ready to publicly humiliate in front of everyone.

Cassandra didn't hesitate at all when she gestured at a waiter and said, "Give me my laptop. Let's check Clay's score first!"

She then swiftly typed my exam admission details into the site.

An image appeared on the screen, showing that I had gotten zero points.

The guests started to boo my poor results.

"No matter how bad a student is, they still shouldn't have scored zero points in the SATs."

"I heard Clayton used to be quite smart in the past. I wonder what happened to him. Did he mix with the wrong crowd and pick up bad habits?"

"I think I saw him at the bar once. Don't tell me that…"

Mom and the others didn't speak up to defend me.

"I told you that you're looking for the wrong person, sir," Mom said to the admission directors. "There's no way you're looking for Clay to join your colleges when his results are so dismal. Take a look at Cam instead. He must be the one you're looking for!"

She then pushed Camden toward the admission directors.

Rebecca stepped forward and gleefully said, "Come on, show Cam's score. Let everyone know just how amazing he is."

Cassandra nodded with a smile. She then typed Camden's exam admission details into the site.

Everyone held their breath in anticipation as the system refreshed.

A new image appeared on the screen, showing that Camden had also scored zero points.

It was bright and sunny the day I arrived at Galewin University. Sunlight streamed through the gaps between the clouds, making the campus' cobblestone path glitter like shattered gold.I pulled my suitcase behind me and stood at the college entrance. I tilted my head back to look at the sky. It was very blue, and it was very clear. My phone was constantly vibrating in my pocket during my journey to Galewin University. Mom, Cassandra, and Rebecca were the ones who were calling me. Camden also called me a few times.I ignored all their calls. My phone stopped vibrating as much on the third day.It fell completely silent on the 15th day.…Galewin University gave me plenty of money for my scholarship. In fact, I had enough money to cover all my school fees and living expenses.I didn't have to work in a bar anymore. I didn't have to put on a uniform and promote the alcohol that was on sale to the patrons of the bar. I didn't have to stand at the door of the private room and count

"Clay!" Mom shouted. "Please listen to me… I know I was in the wrong now. I've learned my lesson. Please don't abandon me, Clay."She reached out and tried to grab my sleeve, but I swatted her fingers away."Did you ever stop to think about me when you turned off my alarm, Mom?" I asked.Cassandra lunged at me and pulled me into a hug. "It's all my fault, Clay! I was the one who played favorites with Cam. I was a fool and let him pull the wool over my eyes for eight years. "Don't go. I'll buy a house for you in your favorite area. You can enroll in any college you want. I'll handle the money—""That's enough," I said, batting her hands away. "In the past few years, you always told me that you would take care of me if I didn't do well on my tests. But you used all my allowance to make Cam happy instead."I had to work a part-time job just to earn enough money to buy mock test papers. You kept claiming that you were going to take care of me, but did you ever do that?"Cassandra's

"You faked your illness, Cam?" Mom asked."No!" Camden shouted, shaking his head wildly. "Clay's slandering me, Mom!"He rushed to her side and grabbed her hand before continuing, "That recording was made with AI! Clay forged it because he hates me! You have to believe me, Mom.""Let's verify its validity right now," I said. "Let's find a proper hospital so you can take a psychology or psychiatry test. It doesn't matter which hospital. I'll repeat the year with you if it's proven that you're ill.""I won't go," Camden frantically answered.Cassandra frowned. "Why not? Clay will repeat the year with you once you prove that you're ill."Rebecca looked at Camden and said, "Cam… Don't tell me you don't want to take the tests because…"She paused for a moment before continuing, "Did you make everything up?"Camden's mouth fell open as he swept his gaze across Mom's deathly pale face, Cassandra's tense jaw, and Rebecca's hesitant eyes.Someone in the crowd scoffed and said, "There's

"I won't," I said without any hesitation."What did you say?" Mom asked. "Say that again?""I said that I won't," I said."You… Are you just going to stand by and watch Cam die?" Mom asked, looking at me with bloodshot eyes. "Where's your conscience, Clayton Silva? Cam already wants to jump off the building, but you're saying you won't repeat the year with him. Do you want to send him to his death?"Rebecca approached me and held my hand."Stop being difficult, Clay," she said softly. "You even insisted that you weren't going to go to Holwille University. I know you think we played favorites with Cam. I understand why that would upset you. But I also know that you have a kind heart. Repeat the year with Cam, okay?""I said that I won't," I repeated, retracting my hand."Does this family have loose screws in their heads or something?" someone in the crowd mumbled. "Clayton's results are so good. He even won the Oliviad Math Tournament, but he showed up to the banquet in a waite

Mom pointed at the screen that was still showing that I had scored zero points for my SAT."Clayton got zero points! Why would you invite him to join your college? If he got accepted into college even though he submitted blank answer sheets, why wouldn't Camden qualify for a spot then?"The admission directors were rendered speechless by Mom's words. They finally understood what was going on at that moment.Camden was Mom's precious treasure while I meant nothing to her.A displeased look crossed their faces before they said, "Our presidents told us that we're here to invite Mr. Clayton Silva to join our colleges. Is he here? We're looking for him."The corners of my lips curled up into a smile before I stepped forward from my corner."I'm Clayton Silva," I said, approaching the admission directors. The admission directors immediately fixed on a smile when they saw me. They then hurried toward me to greet me.The director of admissions of Holwille University managed to grasp my

The guests couldn't help but discuss among themselves upon seeing the results on the screen."Zero points?""Is this a joke?""Didn't they say Camden was the top scorer just now?"Mom stared at the screen. Her voice was shaking when she stammered, "T-That's impossible. Why did Cam get zero points too?"Cassandra also began to panic. "Y-You're right! There's no way both of them got zero points. Maybe there's something wrong with the system. The admission directors are already here. They must have come all the way here for the top scorer! "Don't worry, Cam. There must be something wrong with the score. There's no way that you got zero points," she said while holding Camden's hand, patting it lightly to comfort him.I leaned against the wall in the corner and quietly watched everything unfold. The corners of my lips curled up into a smile.Mom and the others had no idea that I activated a system on the day that Camden was diagnosed with Sibling Rivalry Disorder. The system allowe
