Serena's POV

“Listen, Serena, I'm not the type to get involved in other people's problems, but at the same time, I'm not blind,” Becca spoke calmly as she helped me adjust my dress. “I've seen the way you and Myles Voss act around each other, and I have to say, it's quite disturbing for people who claim to be dating.”

I turned away from the mirror to face her.

“What's your point, Becca?” I asked.

“Well, the point is, there is no chemistry between you and Myles!” She exclaimed and took a step back. “I'm sorry if I sound too blunt, Serena. But you both could pass better as enemies than lovers. I saw the way you reacted when you saw him make the save in the courtroom. What's going on, Serena?”

She was right. Becca was always very observant after all. My relationship with Myles Voss was a huge lie, and I wished I could open up to Becca at least and tell her everything, but I couldn't do that. I had to keep my mouth shut!

“We're just going through a small disagreement.” I sighed. That was

Serena's POVGlass exploded, and shots suddenly went up as well as smoke, but I barely had the time to register all of that when Theo collided into me, sending me straight to the floor. The man was old, but there was no denying that he was agile, too. I could tell why Myles wanted him babysitting me.“Stay down!” Theo screamed, his voice carrying over the whole noise. “Wha… what is happening?” I asked. “We're under attack.” He replied, already pulling out a pistol from his waist. “Stay down. Don't move a muscle.”I wasn't planning on getting up anytime soon, though, so that was one command I was going to carry out to the last detail. From where I lay sprawled on the floor, I heard the unmistakable sound of gunfire and the shouts of the men as they did what they could to keep the attackers at bay. Theo tried to look up and out of the window, but a few bullets hitting the window pane dangerously forced him back down.My heart was pounding all through as I stayed there, hoping against

  • Saint by Day,Sinner by Night   CHAPTER 72

Serena's POVWhat exactly was I even expecting? I mean, did I really believe that it'll be all fun and games living in the same house with Myles Voss? The Ice King? Hah! I must have been dreaming or something, and now it was time to wake up from that dream and face reality.Believe it or not, tears threatened to fall from my eyes as Myles turned away from me and left the house, banging the door in his wake. That was really cold and heartless of him. Just the day before, he had been giving me mixed signals until I had to open up my feelings to him in the car, and the moment I did, I noticed that he suddenly became colder.“Everything alright?” I almost jumped when the voice came right behind me. It was his aunt, Greta. I hastily wiped my eyes and did what I could to look okay before turning.“Hey… Aunt Greta. Trust you slept well.” I said with a smiley face, hoping against hope that she didn't see beneath the facade.“I sure did.” She replied calmly with a smile of her own. “Are you o

Myles's POV“Myles!” Aunt Greta gushed while pulling me into a suffocating hug. “I was starting to think you’d avoid me forever.”I really didn't like hugs. They make you look and feel vulnerable, I didn't want to look weak and definitely not in front of Serena but again aunt Greta was my favourite aunt and I'd always had a soft spot for her too so…I barely had the energy to fake a smile. Work had been a nightmare with endless meetings, putting out fires my workers incompetence kept starting and now I still had to deal with this.“Course not, Auntie,” I muttered while quickly peeling myself free. My gaze flicked to Serena standing stiffly by the kitchen counter. She hadn’t moved an inch since I walked in.Aunt Greta beamed between us. “I came by to finally get to know your lovely wife properly. You’ve been hiding her from us!”Serena’s fingers tensed around the cup she was holding and I ground my jaw. “Yeah. Busy schedules.”The silence stretched like a damn noose and Aunt Greta ei

Myles's POVI returned home around 3 AM with the weight of the night’s losses pressing heavily on my shoulders. The moment I stepped inside I spotted Serena curled up on the couch, fast asleep.I frowned. Again. She had stubbornly refused to sleep in her own room though I couldn’t understand why. Our marriage was nothing more than a contract and one known only between us. Yet the way she acted lately the way she seemed to linger and gave me mixed signals I wasn’t prepared to handle this much drama.I exhaled too exhausted to dwell on it and walked past her into my room. After stripping off my bloodied jacket and washing up I collapsed onto the bed expecting sleep to take me instantly. It didn’t.My mind refused to quiet. The ambush replayed in my head with Dean’s faulty intel, the Revenants’ ambush and the men we lost. Someone had tipped them off and the timing was too precise to be coincidence.Giving up on sleep, I pushed myself out of bed and headed to the kitchen for water. As I p

Myles's POV“I don't know, but I really don't like the sound of this,” I muttered and then turned to Knox. “What do you think about this?”He thought for a while before speaking up.“Well, I feel we should go for it.” He replied simply. “I mean, the ghost has the upper hand on us as it is. For weeks now, he's been slowly chirping at us and gaining the high ground. If we've got an opportunity to hurt him back as much as he's hurt us, I believe we shouldn't pass on that opportunity.”I listened for a while before turning to the other men. “Does anyone else think differently about this?” I asked, but the rest of the men shook their heads dismissively. “Alright then.” I turned to Dean. “Which dock exactly did your Intel specify?”Dean’s smirk widened as if he had been waiting for this moment all along. Without hesitation, he unfolded a detailed map of the docks across the table, with his fingers immediately tracing over the marked locations with precision."Easy peasy," he said, and you

  • Saint by Day,Sinner by Night   CHAPTER 68

Myles's POVThe smoke was still curling from the barrel of my gun as the man staggered back with a hand pressed firmly to his shoulder and his eyes wild as he looked at me.“You... you shot me!” He exclaimed in disbelief.“You'll live.” It was Knox who groaned in reply. “And that should serve as a message for all of you who would dare to question the boss! Who else has something to say?!”The room fell silent, and a few of the prospects shifted back awkwardly with their eyes darting nervously around the room. Good, that was more like the reactions I was used to getting.“Why don't you have that shoulder looked at?” I said as I coldly returned the gun to its holster. “Get that looked at and stop bleeding all over the place.”The frightened man immediately turned and left with his hand still pressed to the gun wound on his shoulder. That would teach him a lesson and the others as well. None of them would ever openly call me soft because I was married.“Return to whatever it was that you
