SAPPHIRE.

“Walk faster! Do you wish to be sent to the cells?” Master Beck glared hard, his jaw tight.

“I-I am sorry, Master.” I shivered, even though I was not the one he was speaking to. The servant bowed low, his hands shaking as he begged.

“Do not apologize, you fool!” He sneered, pointing to the hallway ahead. “MOVE!”

“Stop looking, Sapphire.” Menah grabbed my arm firmly. “Walk.” and she pulled me along, her steps even faster than usual. I nearly stumbled as we rushed, our heads bowed.

I looked up for a moment, just in time to catch the sharp glare of the Master, quickly I looked away, my heart pounding at his anger, and I walked even faster. But somehow I still felt his eyes on us as we walked.

The entire palace was unbelievably heavy.

And we hadn’t even reached the North wing.

Not one soul made a sound as everyone worked, somehow keeping their steps quiet as they rushed by. I was sure I could hear a pin drop from anywhere in the palace.
